Update: Sam is in critical condition and will be undergoing more surgical procedures. The stroke has created blood clots and is making it very difficult to treat. They removed some yesterday, and are hoping to get the rest today.

Please find it within yourself to pray and support Sam and his family in this time of need?

I just spoke to Sam's mother and hear is what's going on.

He did not need another procedure today, but has more extensive testing to make it through tomorrow.

He is awake and semi coherent, and showed some signs of movement in his left foot tonight.

He is not out of the woods yet, but is doing okay for now.

I will have more details as they develop tomorrow.

If anyone wishes to send thier wishes to the Grizzaffi family, please IM me here, and I will forward them so that they can read them to Sam.

Please keep praying for Sam as he battles through these trying times?

Wow, how sad! I thought about posting on the "Where are they now thread" about Sam a couple weeks ago because I had not heard his name forever? It sucks to hear it now with this news! :( I remembered seeing him throw distance at the Pro Worlds in South Bend '95 or '96 and he could rip! Hoping for a speedy recovery Sam....

Wow, I just got an Email from Glenn Hale about Sam, I had not read this section of the board today.

As someone who lost his dad to a stroke this spring, I know what Sam and his family are going through.

I last saw Sam at Biff's Funeral and he was looking pretty good.

Get well Sam and I will be praying for a speedy recovery for you.

Craig, do you know what City and Hospital Sam is at???? Just wondering.

I think I will send you a IM for something to forward over to Sam and his family.

I have some video of Sam's taking 2nd place, only 1 stroke behind Climo, at 1990 Worlds. We also cut up minis in quarters so people would find the other 3 matches. My other matches were Kenny and Sammy...true Southern gentlemen! Must find that video.

Sammy, my hugs to you and positive thoughts and prayers to your family as well.

Hugs!

Sam is in the hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I will be talking to his mother later today after his Grandmothers funeral. I should have more details by then, and I plan on driving up there to see Sam this afternoon.

Please keep the thoughts and prayers coming. I will be printing off any messages from the disc golf community and reading them for Sam this afternoon. So please send them via Instant Message if you want Sam to hear what you have to say?

The Grizzaffi family is very grateful for the prayers and support coming from the disc golf community, and Sam is aware that we are all out here pulling for him.

More details later today.

Just got home from seeing Sam and his family.

He is coherent and awake, but has trouble speaking clearly. He did recognize who I was, and was able to acknowledge who I was talking about while reading the kind wishes that have been sent today. He wanted to know who won the VPO, if that says anything.

He still has a bloodclot in his head that they are unable to dissolve at this time. He has some movement with his left hand, but no movement today in his left leg. The left side is where he needs to improve, as a stroke affects motor skill on that side the most.

Hopefully the drugs they are giving him will help this clot break up and he can start to recover quickly.

It meant alot to his family to know that the disc golf community has not forgotten him, and they extend thier grateitude for all your kind words.

Please keep the prayers coming as he will need all the help he can get.

I will update as I get updated.

Update:

Sam is doing better today, he is more coherent and talkitive but still has some slur to his speach. He started on a liquid diet and is taking the food well. He has shown some movement on his left side today, and if this continues he could be starting rehab as early as next week.

The Doctors feel that if he can continue to improve today, that he may get moved to a private room and taken out of Critical care.

If all goes well, I can go and see him again Saturday morning.

I just got off the phone with Curry North, it seems Sam called Scott Grimes to say he was not going to be back to work this week :p

Scott said he sounded like he had been drinking, but sounded good.

Sam said he is being told he could be back in the Dallas area next week.

(Curry called me to ask me to post this update)

I spoke with Sam last night on the phone and he seems to be doing much better. He is hoping to get moved into a private room in the next day or two and begin doing rehab.

From what his mother told me, he will most likely stay in the hospital for a few more weeks while going through the rehab process.

It was great to talk to him and he seems in good spirits after all he's been through. He wants to get back out on the links and start playing again, I think that's wonderful.

I'll update more as I get it, and look forward to seeing him again this weekend with a stack of new Innova plastic, so when he's ready to throw he will be completely armed with the latest technology.

He wanted to say "Thank You" to all the folks that have posted here and in PM's. They have meant alot to him in this time of need.
