Looks like a great opportunity for the PDGA to once again control its' own publication future.

The Professional Disc Golf Association is pleased to announce that it will return to publishing its own in-house publication beginning in 2009 through the new PDGA Media Group. The project is still in the early planning stages but the publication is expected to be a glossy full color magazine containing membership information, news, opinions, event schedules, articles, photos, advertisements and other content consonant with the purposes of the association. All active PDGA members will receive an annual subscription to the publication as a benefit of membership.

Ummm...does anyone read this stuff?

Interesting. Now the new BOD members can control the magazine. Do any of them know much about magazines?

Tom, I will assume you are being sarcastic. Either that or you really don't know that Rick Rothstein was elected to the BOD.

I think he might know a little something about magazines. :p

AND probably the ONLY board member HAPPY to see "Flying Disc" FAIL.. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Regardless, I find it refreshing that the PDGA is bringing back its own publication AND Rick's "experience" will benefit us all, IMO

agreed. I just dont understand why this constant "stiring of the pot" just continues on.....at times if for no other reason than to "stir the pot". Different opinions are fine....healthy even. But when those ideas are constantly presented in such a negative, condescending way it becomes so completly counter-productive. I tend to get turned off to the point that I dont even want to read completly through their responses....and I probably miss some good points. But I get so tired of having to wade through 90% of crap to get to them.

On a positive note, I re-uped 2 memberships in our household on the 12th, and recieved our membership packets 7 buisness days later. Yes this is only the start of the re-newing season and yes the volume for the fullfillment house is low. But in my mind its a good start to 2009 for the PDGA regardless. I hope the timely delievery of the new PDGA publication follows.

it's tongue-in-cheek -- i was hoping to trick the leadership into having an eye-opening laugh at itself,,,

hopefully they listen to Rush -- you're from Canada, so i believe that's a requirement :D

Jroc: Using your post as a convenient place to give everyone some perspective in regards to membership volume vs time of year.

Based on current numbers, last years "current members" total, historical data and assuming an estimated 8% growth rate for 2009:

- PDGA HQ / Fulfillment will have processed approx. 18% of the yearly membership volume between 12/1/08 - 12/31/08.

- Based on current trends, and historical data, by 1/15/09, it looks like 23-26% will have been processed.

I've posted some other helpful info regarding 2009 PDGA Membership Processing in the "Evidence of Improved PDGA Service" thread.

Discette, I know Rick and his history. We actually sat on the BOD at the same time a few years ago. I just wanted to make sure you all do not loose hope. He will bring a ton of publication know how to the new effort. Heck, he may even run it all in a few years!

Assuming only 12,000 current memberships for 2009, that translates to roughly 2,200 processed memberships just in the month of December and roughly 3,000 memberships by mid January.

A lot more volume than I thought for the first month of re-up. Thanks for the data :D
