National Tour Atlanta Open will be held at ERP and Central. After much effort we have finalized these two courses to keep the AO running as originally planned. Since the age protected pro divisions are all playing the same tees same days as MPO all divisions are eligible to qualify for the USDGC. For what reason?

Nov 21 2008, 12:18 PM
why would you limit the number in the open division?

Maybe because the Holidays are an expensive
time of the year. Just a guess.
90 max for an NT. This one will fill quickly.

I will definitely chime in here.
Rand I really wish you would reconsider your divisional caps
By limiting the pro field to 60 open, 5 women, 20 mpm, and 5 mpg you are telling me that you are going to allow for 90 am players to fill the other course? I really hope I am misunderstanding this!!!
If in fact you are limiting the ladies to a division of 5 it will not even be worth it for any of the ladies to come! noone will be able to even make their money back. There is an average of well above 5 women in almost all national tour events.
The national tour is NOT about the AMS. no offense to any ams.
I propose you move the age protected divisions to the other course (where the am flight is) and save half the spots or so for the pro age protected divisions on that course. The national tour is about the PROS! let the pro men and women fill up a course! Please I beg of you don't limit the field of men to 60! and don't limit the women to 5! I can name at least 8 women that are planning on coming and I make 9. there are way more than 5 women that tour!!!
LET THE NATIONAL TOUR BE ABOUT THE TOURING PROS! This is what it was designed for Rand.
I appreciate you running this tournament. I appreciate all the time and effort you are and will be putting in! I mean no disrespect to you my friend. Please Please Reconsider.
thank you
Courtney

agree about "The national tour is NOT about the AMS" ... also agree that there should be more room for the open fields (men/women).

LET THE NATIONAL TOUR BE ABOUT THE TOURING PROS!
with ya on that one too...

I even go so far as to agree that the age protected 'pro' divisions should/could probably be moved to the other course.

All that being said... unfortunately most TDs rely on the am side to help bring in income to add cash for the pro side. Which in turn helps the pros (those that are lucky enough to pre-reg on time) with more cash in the pot. Not saying that is the case with this tourney but I understand this happens with a lot of tournaments.

BTW... added incentive for the traveling pros to reg for this one early is that the Carolina Clash (A tier) is in Charlotte the week before so you'll have a few tourneys back to back.

The ams are playing a few weeks ahead of time.

even better... it would give those in the protected division a chance to play in their own division in the early tourney and if they want to step up they can play open at the NT event.

Thanks for the reply and thoughts. Much consideration has gone into the planning. Several factors under the surface have prevented hosting both Pros and Ams on the same weekend. I cant go into what in a public forum as it would not be fair to those involved.

65 spots have been set aside for FPO and MPO come get em. That means that MPO and FPO are welcome to sign up until those spots are spoken for.

7584
Dec 02 2008, 10:23 AM
I wanted to make the the AO a Pro Open only event MPO and FPO. As a TD that decision would have created significant maint problems for me.

After much negotiating we were unble to land both parks for both days, so we had to split the Ams and Pros to different weeks. This meant that the NT would be limited to 90 players. 65 spots are available to MPO and FPO first come first serve. The other 25 spots are available to MPM MPG first come first serve. I wish it were easier than this, but we had to run with what we were given.

My advice is sign up fast and you will get in with no problem. For those of you that dont know, Atlanta has a limited number of courses to work with.

Haven't played in Atlanta since the IFO Supertour at Redan in 1992 - and that ended up being a career highlight (for comebacks anyway) coming from the back of the third group in the final round to take 2nd.
Looking forward to some new courses :)

Just curious, but when was the pre-reg list last updated?

Hey Rand,
I saw on one of your local web sites that you were planning a fundraiser for concrete tees at ERP. What kind of tees are there now? And what kind are expected to be there for the AO? Thanks!

keithjohnson
Jan 21 2009, 08:37 PM
Not Rand, but familiar with the pads.

Crushed gravel and stone dust compacted.

If the Fundraiser goes well, then the County has agreed to allow the Black Tees to have concrete first, and hopefully be finished in plenty of time for the AO.

The layout will be different as last year only used 11 of the Supersized holes, due to the ams also playing there.
The TRUE supersized layout we used in the Georgia USDGC Qualifier and the GSSS Event at Central in 2008 can NEVER be used totally again thanks to a Disc golfer who yelled at a park patron who was connected to park management.

So that leaves us with Supersized Junior, which will be a Par 61 Course that will challenge everyone. The best score from anyone(including several 990+ golfers) playing the layout at the USDGC Qualifier and GSSS Event was only 56 - I expect that the top score with all the World Champs arriving will be around 52-54, and I'll put a $100 bounty on a score in the 40's and if the wind is at least 15 MPH steady, I'll make it $300

The hole by hole descriptions are below for CENTRAL PARK which the PROS will play Sunday.

I will be bringing most of my private stash to the fly mart Saturday night. It is a collection that I started in 1995 and consists of over 1000 discs. There will be lots of CE, First Runs, Protos, and all around sweet plastic. Mind you, this is not a yard sale and I'm not desperate for money, so don't expect cheap. Reasonable and fair, but not cheap. See ya there!

I would like to personally invite everyone registered, on the waitlist and anyone who is following the Atlanta Open to a B Tier Event in Jacksonville the following weekend April 4th & 5th.

To give you some numbers from last year, The 2008 Jax open was a C Tier that had $3600 added Cash to the PRO's. With a $1000 payout to the open winner.

We are striving to achieve the same if not better for the 2009 Jax Open.

You can find more information at: http://www.rcdga.org/JaxOpen09.html

online registration can be found at:

Check in is MANDOTORY in order to get into the tournament. THE DEADLINE TO CHECK IN IS 9AM Sat. You can check in Friday all day or wait until the last min (which seems to be the preferred method for some). You can also find me at the Hampton Inn in Alpharetta to check in on Friday night. Repeat, 9 am Saturday March 28th 2009 will be the deadline to check in to the Atlanta Open. Upon check in you will receive a players pack and confirmation into the event.

For those on the wait list. If anyone fails to show up or check in by 9am Sat, I will begin to sign people up from the wait list. I will enter a player(s) in the order that they were placed on the wait list as long as they are standing at tournament central at 9am sharp. See current wait list in above post.

Please make sure you let everyone know, so that no one is caught off guard. Lots of players dont read message boards, so help spread the word to those signed up.

Thanks,

I will be bringing most of my private stash to the fly mart Saturday night. It is a collection that I started in 1995 and consists of over 1000 discs. There will be lots of CE, First Runs, Protos, and all around sweet plastic. Mind you, this is not a yard sale and I'm not desperate for money, so don't expect cheap. Reasonable and fair, but not cheap. See ya there!

This will be at the fly mart Saturday night. You don't want to miss it.

The National Tour Clinic Series will be happening tonight at 4:00 at Central Park!

Even if the weather doesn't cooperate, our pro clinic staff will be holding a Q&A session at or near tournament HQ. These are a great way to pick the brains of our sports best.

Good luck to everyone this weekend!

Val's 53, unofficially rated 1021, could turn out to be the best round all time for women for courses in the 54-59.99 SSA range, topping Angela Tschiggfrie's 1020 on McNaughton Blue at the 2006 USWDGC.

Great Job David Wiggins jr.!!!

Finished top 20 (17th) in a huge field of amazing talent! I was really rooting for him to make it up to the top 15, but at just a place away from ulibari, David is looking prime to be the amateur world champion this year!!!

I wish to apologize to my cardmates in the 4th round -
Mikey Kernan, Greg Campbell, Larry Bledsoe and Matthew Pratt for my actions during the round, as I had somethings happen to me after I left the silent auction Saturday night at 11:30 with Lorelei and I blocked it out during the 3rd round for the most part, but was reminded about it again during lunch and could not block it out during the round and despite the guys trying to keep me cheered up and in disc golf mode, I FAILED to keep my head, and wish to profusely apologize, as I have tried EXTREMELY hard to improve my attitude ON THE COURSE during rounds since October 5th when I went caffiene free during the rounds.

I'm again sorry, and I hope to make it up to them in future rounds.

Good job Rand, and thanks to all the players for coming from all across the country!

Sincerely,
Keith

The stats are a great start but they need to be adjusted using the ratings of the players to an average rating of 1000 to determine how good the scoring spreads are for Gold level players. Ritger has the access to the Excel tool to do that from the DGCD. Or the way to do it without doing adjustments is to only include players starting from the top and work down until your set of players average exactly 1000 rating.

Did something happen to Dean Tannock? Did he get hurt or have a family emergency?

12StonesScott
Mar 30 2009, 06:51 PM
He was interviewed by the video guys both on Friday and after Saturday's rounds. On Friday he said that he had tennis elbow from playing racquetball over the winter and would probably be taking a break for at least a few weeks after this tournament. Saturday afternoon he said that during the first round it was obvious he had to go ahead and shut it down. Links to both video reports are on the main PDGA.com page.
