I have a little podium I want to stand on for a moment and then I'll step off and let others discuss.
I just bought the 2006 Japan Open dvd and it has a picture of Steve Rico on the front, long story short, he won the tourney, now his picture alone didn't give it away but on the back cover it has both him and Val Jenkins standing next to a basket for a picture. DEAD giveaway who won both divisions
Then I just got the 2008 Worlds dvd in the mail and on the cover, who else? Dave Feldberg, and on the back Dave holding a basket in victory.
All I'm saying is put some scenery, a group of people, etc...don't give it away on the cover. I mean I love watching disc golf, but it's like any movie we go to see it for the exciting conclusion and the "plot". I knew the ending before it began. Come on people!!!
Any thoughts?

I wonder if the people who voted have to pay for the production costs just like we pay $25 more in Membership so that we can get taped? Maybe you guys should pay us?

I find it odd that you are purchasing 2 year old videos and viewing them like they are a mystery movie with a plot. It's a sporting event, if I won it I BETTER be on the cover. My suggestion...if you order a dvd close your eyes when you open it and hide the cover till you watch it. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Since when? The Pro Worlds DVD eventually breaks even or makes a little money in about three years. Your $25 is paying mostly to run the NT including Worlds staff, marshals and Tour guide.

Sine when? SSince you metioned that as one of thwe reasons we pay more everytime it is brought up.
So you mean we payed for the Worlds staff witg our $25 vbut the Ams didn't? Why do we pay for the tour guide? I personally have never seen it.
Don't even get me started on Marshalls. The fact our fees go up from $3 to $5 at NTs should be enough because I bet less than 30% of Pro players actually play in the NTs so why shoyuld they have to pay for it when the Ams who also don't play get off clean?

The Ams paid for their portion of the staff like they always do via the difference between retail and wholesale on merch. But when pros get 125% payout or better at Worlds, the PDGA is picking up the cost for the portion of staff and marshals that help the pro side. There's also added cash going to the NT. You usually have to go to an NT to see the Tour guide or be a promoter/TD that gets copies for distribution. The NT committee is well aware of the money available for pro activities from the $25 and they will be decussing if it should be apportioned any differently in the future than it has been.
But the DVD has apparently been pretty much a breakeven deal for the past several years which is a good thing. It was a net loss for several of the years before maybe 2004.

Oh yeah the payout is AWESOME at worlds. :p
You beat 80% of the field and get $280 after paying $230 to get in. Man I'm sure glad the payout is so AWESOME!
IMO Worlds has very weak payout compared to the entry to get in.

and yet the PDGA stays with the same production company year after year?

It's a bidding process each year. Their bid has been the best and they have delivered what's been asked of them in the bid. The issue, which is certainly valid, is coming up with a new outline for the DVD content which potentially could be more successful. That's up to Brian.

To get away from the thread drift... This is a commonly accepted practice for DVDs of sporting events. DVDs of World Series, Super Bowls, etc. almost always have the winner on the cover. It could be considered a part of the reward, getting your face on the cover of a mass-produced DVD is actually pretty [censored] cool.
