My PDGA Tour bag needs replacing, and I came across the Phenix Core Bag - looks pretty nice, appears to be good quality, especially if you get the reinforced bottom; wondering if anyone has an opinon on this. It is hard to tell if there is a roll cage for holding discs, or some other divider method besides the large middle storage section.

Anyway, give me your thoughts, thanks!

Personally to me it looks like a cheap knock off of a Revolution disc golf bag. Yes, Revo bags are a bit expensive but at the same time well worth it.

This year I got a new Revolution backpack and a Phenix bag. Here comes the blasphemy. I prefer the Phenix bag over the backpack. That's not to say it's better.

Sounds like someone's getting a little defensive regarding their homestate bag manufacturer... :D Anyway, the Phenix bags are in no way cheap. The one I examined looked to be build every bit as tough as a Revolution, but only time would tell. The whole bottom of the bag is galvinized in rubber, and the one problem I've had with my Revo is that darn cheap plastic rollcage rubbing a hole in the bottom of my bag. I agree that the Phenix bag is not all that pleasing to the eye, but I'd be willing to give it a go because my quadshocks have stood up to HUGE abuse and last a long time.

It's a good bag and very durable. Price wise they aren't that much different. I have no complaints with either bag. I had to quit using the backpack because it didn't agree with my lifetime injured shoulder. I could have gone back to a revolution bag since I have 3 or 4 of them but Discraft was offering special team bags to their players. I took a chance on it and i'm glad I did.

Everyone I know with the Revo backpack has had the cheap roll cage break on them. My buddy has been trying to get a replacement for many months, his broke very soon after purchase. Other than the roll cage I'd say both bags are built very well with high quality materials.

Except for the mesh bottle holders on the Revo Backpack

What is the cheap roll cage? Mine is sturdy white plastic.

Mine have been clearwish/white. I broke my first one trying to put it in (which is WAY too hard). The second one I managed to get installed without breaking. It broke after a month or so (i'm not sure, but in 6th months it was trashed and pieces were falling out of my bag). Now I'm using my wife's (she has a cart now) and so far I think its still in one piece. That plastic is very brittle. I don't know if they use different plastics now, I got mine when they first came out.

I bought a replacement frame for my Revo at worlds this year. It was white plastic and certainly difficult to install, but so far it is holding up well and I play alot of golf and like to kick and throw my bag...

I did this, but I had to literally stretch the bag as hard as I could to fit the crossbeam in the side slot. My experience is probably fairly unique since I have a discontinued bag (with waistrap) that was probably never designed for the new cage.

I agree. It was extremely difficult to get in there. I thought it was not going to work at all, and then bang, it finally fell into place and is actually quite nice right now. That is aside from the fact the corners of it are in the process of cutting holes into my bag. Waiststrap? I always thought that was supposed to be an umbrella holder!!!

Check out the new Fade Disc Golf Bags. I picked one up for my wife and my daughter from a local vender here in Hotlanta. I'm sure they sell them online. Very sturdy and inexpensive.

Do the crunch bags have a frame?

The only thing that i didnt like was the bottom on the Phenix bag. Sure it will last for 700 years, but as it is very stiff and almost has a grit like sand paper. I would think it would wear through your clothes after a while. Other than that, it looked to be a very well built and nice bag.

So is using a frame in Revo bags. IMO, Revo bags feel much better without a frame in them and the bottom lasts much longer without the pressure points. Try it, you'll see.

I didnt know this.

Well, then i would say it is a very nice bag. Revo bags are very nice as well. I have one of the innova tourny bags now and i have to say i have been very pleased. i have had it for around 2years and its stil in great shape. I must be one of the lucky ones from other things i have read about them.

The pad on the back is kept seperate from the underside coating. The stuff doesn't touch my back or my clothes. And with no frame on the Core, the other problems discussed don't happen. It should last WAY longer than anything else, and I can just pack more and more into it, or leave it lite if need be.
Have you seen the new bag builder program on the site? You can choose any color for each panel of fabric. Might have to get another.

Go Gorilla Boy bags....I ordered one a year and a half ago.....SUPER light....VERY durable. I asked him to make his KONG model in Camo for me...He was able to find the print in Ballistics Nylon which he uses for all his bags.

I have talked several of my peeps here in Houston to order his bags and they all have been VERY happy

My bag is the Kong model in the material of the Chimpanzee model they show on the site.

My girl bought me a pheonix bag w/ the truck liner bottom and I love it. During early morning rounds or wet rounds it stays mostly dry--all my other bags would take a long time to dry, especially the bottom. There is also a hidden rain flap that's in a zipper pocket. I only have two problems w/ the bag, 1- it can get VERY heavy fully loaded w/ drinks and what not-I just consider this cross-training. 2- if you are using quad shock straps, you have to sinch up the the rear straps almost all the way because the bag tends to pivot downwards unless it's pulled from the top. All in all I really like this bag--and the center pouch rocks!!

The phenix bag does not have a roll cage/frame. The bag itself is designed to be the frame. It's very well made, and there has been much thought put into the design and manufacture of the bag. Well worth the money, if you ask me.

one trick to get the straps to work better with the bag - remove the carabiners and d-rings from the straps that go to the top of the bag, and attach the straps directly to the bag. I'll take a picture of mine. If you have the straps properly installed and adjusted (the bag should sit higher up on your back and not bounce on your butt), then the weight virtually disappears, even with two full nalgenes on the sides.
