The 2009 GCC dates are set. As expected, it is the weekend before the Memorial. This is a three-day event (February 27 - March 1). Still waiting PDGA sanctioning.
Online signs ups (Pros only) available soon at www.pdgasignup.com. (http://www.pdgasignup.com.) Ams must mail me an entry form. Only 72 spots for Ams. Am divisions are limited and listed on the entry form. Am spots will go quick! To be placed on the waiting list, an entry form and payment must be received.
A new hotel is opening up across the street from Sunset Park in December 2008. Go to "hotel information" page at www.lvbagtag.com. (http://www.lvbagtag.com.)
The event is the same weekend as NASCAR, so get your hotel reservation now.
Already have a handful of sign ups.
This is our 10th Anniversary and we are going all out!!! Last year, over $10,000 added to payouts (don't know if we can do that again this year, but we'll try). In 2007, we added $6,000 to the payouts. Not bad for a small A-Tier Event!!!
Here is sponsorship money collected (or being collected) so far:
$2,900 when all INNColor discs sold. Innova was kind enough to let us order more than normally allowed, because this is our 10th Anniversary Special. Half already sold for $30 each. GO to lvbagtag.com to see the discs.
$3,400 when all Innova CFR discs sold. This included 50 first run Bosses with the Full House stamp. Sold each one for $25! A few different discs left at discgolfvalues.com.
$1,000 from the 2008 Silent Auction. I collected much more than expected last year and added that money to this year's tournament!!!
$1,000 from the 2009 Silent Auction (estimated). To preview a few items already collected for the 2009 Silent Auction, go to www.lvbagtag.com. (http://www.lvbagtag.com.) There are some very, very, very nice discs in this year's Silent Auction, including a limited set of discs FROM EACH PREVIOUS EVENT!!!
$500 for selling 50 first run star stamped Bosses.
$250 from the Las Vegas Disc Golf Club (donated from the 2008 Halloween tournament)
$250 from me!
$100 from Duane and Lisa Kline.
$200 from Don O'Connell (the 2009 GCC artist).
$250 in discs from ERA, Beyond Radar.
$30 from Keith Johnson.
This totals about $9,900...and we just started!!!!
The players package will be a polo. So, bring lots of money to buy tournament stamped discs. The hot stamps ROCK!!!

How soon do you think the AM side will fill up? I broke my arm in October, but I expect to be able to play before February. I would rather sign up closer to the first of the year, when I will have a better idea of how my rehab is going, and I will have more money because I should be back to work. Let me know how soon I need to sign up.

I will keep the sign ups for the am count updated here until the pdga fixes the tournament website page...which it looks like they just did...but I don't have access to that yet.

Does that mean you can't sign up for MA2 if your rating is less than 900?

It means you have to play at least MA2 if you have a 900 rating. obviously anyone under can play it as well

I get cleared to play disc golf again hopefully in 3 weeks. I plan to wait a couple of weeks after that before I start playing, but the Beanieman will be back for the Gentlemen's Club Challenge.
I'll probably sign up sometime toward the end of the year/beginning of next year. How many Ams signed up so far, and how many in MA1?

Thanks Bro. Just to be clear. This was not a full production piece here. I played that day and popped a camera out of my bag with the intent of trying to capture one or two drives from most of the top names. I thought it was good enough to share with y'all. If anyone is REALLY interested in seeing the entire flight of each disc I will gladly provide a DVD copy that shows the pros in their full resolution. Otherwise, try your reading glasses. That might help. hehe

1/15/09 Update - 86 total entries. (Don't know if PDGA website is updating the list or not. Seems to be having problems.)
5 from Canada!
FW2 division cancelled. No sign ups so far, and had to give the spots to MM1 division.
1 FM1 spot left.
8 MM1 spots left.
4 MA2 spots left.
4 FW1 spots left.
11 MA1 spots left. (Also moved 4 MA1 spots to MM1 division based on entries received.)
Total of only 28 am spots left. These remaining spots may be rearranged, based on entries received.
Due to the recession we are in, I am reducing the INNColor sponsorship by $500. Starting February 1, our INNColor discs will drop from $30 each to $25 each. So total sponsorship dropped to from just over $13,000 to just over $12,600. But, I heard another $500 sponsorship may be on the way, so should be able to make up this loss rather quickly.
Hot stamp discs ordered. In the Tenth Annivesary stamp: Champion minis, black Aviars (part of your players package...along with a kick-butt polo), DX Wraiths, Pro KC Aviars, Pro KC Rocs, Pro Rynos. In the Twenty-One stamp: Champion minis, DX Leopards, DX San Marino Rocs, Pro Destroyers. In the Royal Flush stamp: Champion minis, DX Firebirds, DX Rancho Rocs, Pro Wraiths, towels. Will also have a handful of extra polos, bags, Innova straps, and 2008 Halloween items available. Also have special fundraiser discs for Jonathan Lestelle (CFR Glow Wraiths, GLow TLs, Destroyers, and Bosses) with old (2004) logo on it.
The artwork for this year, even just the hot-stamp/line art, is amazing. You will want to bring cash to buy our local merchandise. The final payout for the tournament is based on merchandise sold.

1/27/09 Update - Am divisions closed. I only have 3 MA2 spots open, 1 FW1, and 1 MA1. YOU MUST TALK TO ME IN PERSON IF YOU WANT ONE OF THESE SPOTS!!!
142 total players so far. That means only about 40 Pro spots left. (Bamba where are you?)
Two small blows to sponsorships. A hopeful $500 didn't pan out due to the bad economy...but they will donate some cool items for the dilent auction!!! Also, I incorrectly thought selling the 450 champion minis would raise $500. The amount is $250. But, we have two more hole sponsors...Barry Schultz for $30 (also won the last five GCCs!) and Pete Johnson for $30...for a total sponsorship of around $12,500. WE WILL EXCEED LAST YEAR'S SPONSORSHIPS...PERIOD!!!
I have lots of champion minis and INNColor discs so no need to ask me to hold them.
Cold as heck today...if it rains tonight it likely would turn into snow.

Any idea on when the other stuff for auction is going on the website?

1/29/09 Update. Part 2 - Entries updated. Only one Am spot left...FW1. Less than 35 pro spots left. I already have one on the waiting list for an MA1 spot.
Got the Innova tournament Support package sponsorship today. Adds another $750 or so to the tournament. We are now over $13,300. Thanks Innova!!!
Last years pro payout was about 220% of the entries. It will not be that high this year. Instead, the Pro player packages are going up from last year's $15 value to over $35 for this year. I need to spread the wealth a little more to ALL pro players. But don't worry, the 1st place MPO will still be paid well over $1,000!!

1/31/09 update - Entires updated. Only 21 Pro spots left.
This is a A-Tier event, so you MUST be a current member. Unlike the Memorial, I will take PDGA memebership money the day of the event. But, for you non-current members, if you don't pay me before your tee time, you WILL NOT PLAY. I have two ams on the waiting list, so they will take your spot.
Got the hot stamps in...and I have NEVER seen a hot stamp look sooooooooooooo dang clean. Many thanks to Don O'Connell for the great artwork and Innova working with him so closely.
Everyone gets a DX black Aviar as part of your players package. I will NOT have ANY extra. These are valued at $10 each. (I know DX goes for $8, but black is worth more...and that is how much our club sells black DX for.) Everyone also gets a polo as part of their players package (valued at $25). I will only have a handful of extras. Unless you are a $100 or more sponsor, please do NOT ask me to hold any for you. They will be sold, first come, first served, on SUNDAY after all other shirts appropriately given out.
About half the Pros used PDGA's on-line sign up option. For you other TDs, this is a great program offered by the PDGA, so use it!!!
Going to work on the yard today....weather is great.
For all you east-coast boys...GO AZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW - 28 players in the open division that are near or over 1000 ratings (that doesn't even include all the baggers in the "MASTERS" division). 2/5/09 update - Entries updated. Last addition is Velasquez in MPG. If you don't see his name on the list, the PDGA site still in process of updating.
I have 2 on the MA1 waiting list. I have one on the MA2 waiting list.
I have 1 MPS spot available, 2 FPO spots, and 4 MPO spots. If all filled, we will have 205 players...23 more than last year. (And we are in a recession?)

2/7/09 updated - Entries updated. 1 MPS spot available, 1 MPO, and 1 FPO.
Ams get 135% payback, including player packages. (High payback percent when you included the awards and other goodies included in tournament.)
Adding at least $5,000 to the Pros. Added cash was around $10,000 in 2008 and $6,000 in 2007. Maybe more added this year, depending on final sponsorships and disc sales.
The tournament is costing around $9,000 to run (which is why cash added is less this year). Polos alone over $3,500. I am spreading the wealth more this year so everyone wins!! This is our 10th anniversary so spending a little more on fun stuff than normal.
P.S. YOU DO KNOW THE 2008 GCC WHAT THE TOP A-TIER EVENT AND EVEN BEAT OUT A FEW NTS....RIGHT?

Whenever we have events with tee times over a whole day where winds change by maybe 10mph or more, we just need to know things like that when the TD report comes in so we can do the ratings for groups of divisions separately when needed. It's been that way for Gentleman's the last several years with big wind variances during some days.

Keep the text updates coming Smitty. Not having live scoring in an event this large is lame. I know its a lot of work, but there's a lot of fans out here too.
Keep up the stellar golf "BIG MAC in the land of Small Fries!"

2Barry Schultz
3Paul Ulibarri and Derek Billings
I think. I may be wrong. I was texting updates to Smitty, but my fingers got tired by the end of the round.
The tournament guys were at the awards ceremony, so I am sure thats why rounds aren't posted yet.

A big shout-out to my bro, Rob Lee, for a fine 3rd place finish in Pro Senior GM. At least you kept pace with Peter Shive for most of the tourney. Congrats to Dr. Rick and his new division. :)
Rob turned down the money to play ADV with one of his sons, Jon, in the upcoming Am World Doubles in Texas.

This "1st Loser" wants to again thank Jeff, John Ricker, and ALL THE STAFF for another great Vegas Event.
As always I had a great time seeing all the top players in the country playing, and getting to talk with all my friends from the Disc Golf universe.
One day I will learn that the "TURF" in Vegas has been sent from Vista del Roller in Arizona, and therefore does NOT stop shots from going OB. 11 OB strokes in 3 rounds undid what could have been a top 8 finish in a field of 32 with 10+ being 980 or higher rated.
I look forward to seeing everyone again later this year for the Halloween Event. Could JohnR., Jeff, Cary, or someone in the club please post the dates for the Event or when the PRO side is (if split weekends) so I can make air, car and condo reservations.
I know Jeff asked at the awards ceremony about what people wished for, and MY vote was then and still is to keep the 3 day with tee times(FRI,SAT,SUN) for Halloween as well as GCC.
Thanks in advance for any answers.
