the content of this publication doesn't really bother me even though it is poor
it would however be fairly sweet if I were to ever receive an issue that I paid for
what is the pdga doing to reimburse the $ i paid for a publication that I have yet to receive and hope to never receive

Isn't the Epic approval being removed similar to the Turbo putter?

i certainly hope not.
the first time a newby throws one of these it is ussually the fithest flying disc theve thrown, then as their skill improves the disc loses a spot in the bag for the other discs.
i believe the abuility for a new golfer to throw far is an amazing magnet to the sport we all love.
this disc should remain legal for pdga play

I know that Rich has put a lot of his own money into this mag, I can guarantee you hes not taking our money and not putting it towards the development of the mag...I just think that for $10/yr you guys could cut him some slack. Now if the mag has problems NEXT year, then I'd say go ahead and complain.
fwiw- I don't think all problems have been his fault, however he is taking the classy route and not naming names, or blaming others on here.
as to the tank of heating oil- If I bought $10 of oil and only half showed, I don't think I'd waste my time complaining about it...however I would look for another company to provide my oil if there was one available. If people took all their time they spent complaining and did something to help solve the problem(as small as getting the local disc store to order 5 copies a month to sell) I think we'd have an amazing magazine next year. But its much easier to complain than do actual work I guess.

I don't think most people think this guy is a crook or being malicious in the matter. However, when you bid to win a job part of the assumed pre-requisite is that you can follow through and perform the job you were hired to perform.
The fact that he can't meet the basic standard to get one issue out to paying members is his fault and the pdga's fault for choosing him to do this project.
Sure $10 isn't a lot, but if I steal $10 out of your wallet you won't care? You must have plenty of free cash flow to take that sort of attitude.
If you don't complain about a service performed poorly or a product not delivered properly the problem will only persist and that halts progress.
Complaining here probably won't do anything, but it doesn't hurt either. This Rich guy might see how much dissapointment paying customers are experiencing and push through to make it right. Maybe he's doing all he can and failure is failure

This seems like a closed subject to me. The job to produce the magazine was bid out, Rich won it (I don't know him, but know who he is), was not prepared to take on the task when it came down to it, and the PDGA members are left hanging without one of the bigger perks of being a member. That seems pretty cut and dry to me. I really feel sorry for the people at PDGA headquarters who have to field calls about this. Please bring back Ric Rothstein!

Hello all.
Producing FDM is a wonderful opportunity and is a source of tremendous joy. It's also a challenging and taxing endeavor, especially in our first year.
We are very aware of the timing of the last couple of magazines and want to give you an update on things.
Issue 4 is currently wrapped, finishing up production, and will be on trucks next week. From there we follow quickly with release of issue 5 in early December. Subscribers will then receive an additional issue (6), a special edition Year In Review magazine. We are holding that one as close to the end of the year as possible (to cover as much as possible, including the upcoming Players Cup major) but it'll be shipping before the end of December as well.
so since issue #5 will be here in a few weeks, where is issue #4???

Just want to thank FDM for the major personal snub in the last issue. Were you guys actually at the Worlds this year? Would it be so difficult to actually report on each individual division?
mannyd_928
Nov 25 2008, 12:55 PM
I normally try to keep my thoughts to myself, and I try not to complain too much, but in this case I have to agree with Pterodactyl. The coverage of the Worlds and it's participants was not good at all. There was very little coverage of the event itself, and very few photos. There was not even one picture of an amature player in the whole magazine. There was no interviews of any of the amature players, nothing. Kinda disappointing.

I got my issue #4 yesterday also (San Diego). To be fair Manny, the non-Open divisional winners were listed in the magazine. However, in previous years there was at least a cursory description of the Amateur and Old-Fart divisional play. This bothered me a bit, but then I turned the page to the article about the Star City Shootout, a one-day B-Tier, where there was a little bit of actual text describing the play in the non-Open divisions. Huh?? That's a *big* editorial mistake.
On the plus side, there was a good instructional article by T. Monroe on throwing the airbounce, almost a lost art.
I'm still not sold on the need for disc dog and ultimate articles in this publication. The UPA already puts out a magazine for their players - does it contain disc golf articles in every issue?

guessing FDM hopes to still put out 1/2 the magazines to whoever chooses to subscribe next year but the PDGA has moved on. So maybe there will be 1 1/2 magazines on disc golf in 2009?! that could be cool!

Interesting to see people had such an issue with getting the magazine.
I signed up for the PDGA in late September/Early October and I subscribed to flying disc magazine at that point.
I've only received issue 5 at this point (just got that a week ago) and they just activated my account for the forums like two weeks ago...if that.
I like the magazine I just wish that I could read all of them that I paid for. Here's to hoping the mailbox fairy delivers....

I've only received 4 issues. Bummer. I probably won't be renewing. I learn more hands on then reading but I think it is great for the sport to have a magazine so I hope they can keep it going. Good luck FDM

I think the mag is pretty good and I plan on continuing my subscription.

I was disappointed at first, but I think their publication can only improve, so I renewed as well. Plus I figured, if they want to get better, they're going to need some subscription money! :)

Saw it today at Barnes and Noble and in 15 minutes read all the Disc Golf articles,(there were only a few in the 80 pages) as without being a PDGA mag, it had lots of Ultimate, Dog, and Freestyling type articles covering ALL disc types, plus it still had helpful pro tips pages from Avery and Hammock.
Looks like they got their act together just as their PDGA run was coming to an end. Even though I found it on the shelf, I made a point to ask at customer service about where it was located and the guy walked with me over to the sports shelf, and with around 15-20 people sitting around reading stated that the "flying disc" magazine covering Frisbee golf was right here, as he pulled it out of the middle row of the shelves- which caused about 8-10 of those people to look to see what magazine he was showing me.
Let's hope for the sake of having a mag in the national eye it stays there!

I went searching for one at Barnes and Nobles in Fort Worth @ University and 30 and they have it listed under flying disc instead of flying disc magazine! it was under sports in the very top corner so I had to as for some help because I did not see it at first :DThe guy at the chk out counter said he used to play ultimate! I like the mag enough to buy it verses reading it in the store oh and the fact that my 2 yr old was running laps around the mag stands :D

Because that's the new name of the magazine.
Glad to see others are finding it also.
I would have bought it, but I'm sure that since I already paid the PDGA for this issue, it will one day show up in my mailbox.
I won't get a subscription, but I will probably buy issues around Worlds and USDGC if they come out with good articles and pictures. :D

It's a good magazine. Delivery problems did happen, but the mag was solid. I'm glad to see it out there with all of the other magazines. I will be sending in my 2-year subsciption this week. I don't care that I only got the 4 mags this year. I enjoyed them.
And I know Rick and the PDGA will do a good job on their new magazine as well. And I'm very glad to see the opt out option is a thing of the past,
