ok lets say you get a local business to donate some sort of electronic item as a way of sponsoring your tournament instead of cash- what is the most ideal way of turning this item into added cash for your tournament?
some ideas I have:
-raffle @ the tournament
-club members sell raffle tickets pre-tournament(for bigger items)
- CTP contest, charging $1/throw
-ebay it? not sure how I fell about this, as it is a donated item. I do know this will guarantee getting close to retail value for it
any other thoughts? I'm hoping to hit up some different sponsors this next year, but I want to know what I'm going to do with a unusual item they donate.

Silent auction is cool, too.

Kinda depends on the value of the item. If it is worth more than a few hundred dollars you're probably better off with e-bay or a silent auction, as the number of players at a typical disc golf event might not sell enough raffle tickets, unless you can expect players to buy multiple tickets.
If you want to do a raffle, you're more likely to sell multiple tickets if you have other prizes in addition to the big ticket item. The problems I have seen with raffles at DG events is that the demographics of the players don't always lend themselves well to spending $$ on raffle tickets, the number of participants is limited at most events, thus limiting the market for tickets.
I run raffles at many of my fund-raising tournaments, but I don't expect to get large amounts of revenue from it, not as much as a big ticket item (flat screen TV, set of ball golf clubs, vacation voucher, etc.) is really worth.

ok lets say its a big screen TV valued @ approximately $1,000- say you had club members selling raffle tickets @ work + to non-DG friends, do you think they would be able to sell say, $800 worth in a month or two?
maybe give a free entry to the tournament to the member who sells the most? I think this is pretty good incentive for members to participate.
I agree that any big $$ item would lose value to the tournament if sold/raffled/auctioned off @ the tournament itself.

if you have a good amount of time i would think raffle is best, it's most likely to bring non-dg $ in- incentivizing the seller is the right way to go too.

We did s Krispy Kreme Doughnut sale. We generated a quick $400.00 profit in less than a week of selling. And it can be done several times a year. No it will not raise major money all at once but it is very easy to do and do not need outside donations.

We purchased www.donatediscgolf.org (http://www.donatediscgolf.org) some time ago with the intention of developing some sort of way to do this, but it's never been developed. www.1000rated.com (http://www.1000rated.com) kind of takes up all of our time right now.
At any rate, what do you think could be done with www.donatediscgolf.org (http://www.donatediscgolf.org) ?
We were hoping to develop different pages for certain tournaments, organizations, courses that need tee-signs or maintenance etc. and offer a way for people to donate through paypal. Good idea or bad idea?

Check out your local Honey Baked Ham store. They have been great in Huntsville.
