Santa Cruz won't be hosting the tourney this year due to construction issues.
There is, however, a contingency plan that would have the venue changed to San Francisco for a pro-only tourney on the same date. Don't get too excited yet as it is still in the planning stage and not etched in stone. Keep posted for more details.

For those of you familiar with DeLaveaga, you'll be surprised to see it the next time you visit. Due to erosion issues, the city has undertaken several projects designed to mitigate sediment moving into local creeks and altering fish habitat.
The first step, a few years ago, was to seed the fairway of hole 13/16 (I5). There is more grass than before, but it's not thriving.
The second step has been to re-grade the parking lot and add catchments to collect runoff. The parking lot is now paved, and overall parking space has been dramatically reduced. They also plan to seed the overflow parking on the shoulder of hole 22--it has been sealed off with big logs.
The third step (in progress) is to build a large 'drain' that goes from almost the tee of hole 25 to the tee of hole 7, parallel to the road. This takes water off the hillside and carries it to the slot you cross over after completing hole 19. The creation of this trench required the removal of hole 6 and hole 27, the hallmark hole of DeLa (top of the world). :o Currently hole 27 is in the short position and hole 6 is completely gone.
We'll see how all of this pans out. Hopefully the work crews will be gone prior to the start of the rainy season in a few weeks.
On a brighter note, the Stinging Jellies of Monterey DG Club will be hosting a one-day tournament on Nov 2nd at the newly created Ryan Ranch course in Monterey. Two rounds of 20 holes, $15 for AMs, $25 for Pros. No frills, but it's a chance to play a great course.
Cheers,
Steve
