Maybe it is time to close the website down until the new one is ready. Why spend lots of time trying to keep this alive & safe if it is going to be 86'd anyway?

bad ida, imo. too many people rely on the discussion board for event related info. i suspect thats why the board made it back online first.

From Theo on another thread with timing given as "sometime next week":
"It's all in the works. The website will be up with static content (news stories, etc.) and a link to the message board. Then we'll be adding in the tournament schedule and results, then the course directory, and other dynamic pages."

We're also going to be continuing with the current message board for a while until we can replace it (it's not a small project). In addition to giving disc golfers a way to communicate about events and other topics, it gives us a way to provide feedback until we get the new site up.

Because we're concerned that the security problems may be related to the message board software, we are not going to tightly integrate it into the main site. What that means is that when you go to the message board, the look and feel will be the old theme. There won't be a full menu bar to other sections of the new site - only a link to return to the home page. Not ideal, but it's what we need to do reduce risks to the new site.

IMHO, the schedule and results pages are much more valuable than the DB....I'd like to see those back first. And, since the security issues were related to the DB in the first place, I question the wisdom of bringing back the DB so fast, opening the door for potential further security issues.

Oh, well.

Chap,

We're not sure the security problems were related to the message board. That's why we have engaged a security consulting firm to investigate.

My top priority is to get the schedule and player stats pages "hardened" and ready to go. The message board is pretty easy, since we're not really modifying it. But the legacy software is full of security holes, and it's going to take some effort on my part to lock it down. I finished the main schedule page and event display this afternoon, and I'm going to work on the event results and player stats next.

People rely not just on event info .. but also rely on ex board members spreading false information about a "done deal" concerning rumored rule changes for 2009. In a rulebook update that is not planned for that year no less.
Make it up as they go huh? Can't let the truth interfere.

I just did not see any need to waste time and resources on something being replaced. But then again I guess some folks would put a new transmission in that old junker behind the shed before hauling it to the crusher

Does the PDGA host it's own website or use a hosting company?

fossil, i already said that it is NOT the pdga rule that will include the change.

since you like to call facts rumors, heres another: the organization proactively prevented Board members from reviewing financial information about the organization.

I know around here, we use the MB as one of the main ways to communicate tourney info. In fact I emailed the PDGA asking them to bring it back online because of this fact. It s a major marketing tool for us.

Yes, any link to www.pdga.com (http://www.pdga.com) that isn't to the message board gets redirected to the board. That is part of our interim workaround until we get the new site up.

I agree. And thanks for keeping us posted via the other thread. Non-information breads rumors and discontent. By keeping us informed most of us are satisfied that you are trying your best to get it back up ... which is all we can ask.
