We're planning a Big Players' Party for the Final event of our tour and have been debating how likely it is that players will choose to attend.

At our COTO event (b-tier) earlier this year we had around 150 players, but only about 60 came to the players party that was at The Flying Saucer...a really cool place that provided more free appetizers than we could possibly have eaten.

Now, for the HOTT final (an A-tier), we find ourselves questioning how much we should put into a players party if less than half of the players will show up. There will be food (looking for a sponsor now), free beer (thanks to New Belgium Brewing.a HOTT sponsor), and, most likely, a band (negotiating & finalizing things with the band now).

You need to get up a reputation for having spectacular player parties. At some events I go to the player party is disappointing, and people know it going in. At others it is a party. In Columbus at the Hambrick and in Norwalk Ohio at the Kingston Open - they've built up reputations for parties with great music, great food, and a lively and fun crowd that doesn't get out of hand.

The other amenities are bonuses. But just take your time and build something special, as word gets out it'll draw more competitors in.

The FriZZaks and TTrim always aTTend. Not only to hang out with discgolfers off the course, but also to support. If there is a party, then someone had to organize, plan, and probably negotiate(beg). Its always a good time once you get there, and it makes next years planning and negotiating(begging) easier.

The key is a realistic expectation for attendance. If you are getting 50% attendance - that really isn't bad - unless you're expecting 100%. Having it nearby either the course, or the tournament hotel are also big pluses. Having DG specific bennies is also a big plus. If you can't get freebie food/beverages - having discount coupons in your event schedule for people to use is also a good carrot for attendance.

Thanks everyone.

We've decided to blow it out & make it ROCK, regardless of how many folks decide to attend, but the poll has definitely helped us decide several specifics.

The players that choose to attend the HOTT Final Players Party will have a blast......and the ones who choose not to go, will wish they had ;)

free food and/or beer is a big plus for a lot of people on a budget.
