I just picked up two new Infernos, one of the 80/20's and a Premier. As soon as I got them out of the box I noticed a difference. These two disc are nothing like the two old "Pro Line" and "SRP" Infernos I currently carry. The nose seems sharper and the rim is shallower. These are a lot less domey as well. What happened? Did the Inferno get re-tooled and why? How does this new Inferno fly compared to the old ones? Or do I actually have another disc that is stamped wrong? Anyone know the story I looked all over the message board and on Quest AT website and I have not read anything about it. I use Infernos for long turnover drives but that old plastic just doesn't hold up and I was thinking these new plastics would be the answer but now they seem like a totally different disc.

did you throw the discs yet?
The Inferno was retooled, I was told it was going to be called inferno plus but haven't seen that stamp yet.
We have some of the retooled ones, but I haven't thrown one yet. They are flatter and the plastic is more flexible and the nose is actually not as sharp and yes the rim depth is shorter.
Most likely the reason for the retooling is the demand for disc in CLEAR or fairly translucent plastic, which typically weighs more and requires molds to be smaller by mass in order to keep the weight down.
Steve ( at Quest) has the ability to build a mold in just a few days, so if the New retooled infernos are not flying as far, I would expect him to re-cut a mold like the original pretty soon.

No, I have not thrown them yet and I'm kinda scared too because I don't want to be disappointed. Like I said I use the Inferno for my long range turnover drives and if I can't get the same distance with these as the original then I'll keep throwing what I have.

Ive thrown the new ones and they are definitely not turning over like the original, They fly much more overstable. Maybe with some time they could be a great turnover disc if you beat it in quite a bit.

Just as I had expected. I took the 80/20 Inferno out to the course yesterday. In my opinion it flew and felt nothing like the original inferno. It was definitely more overstable and I couldn't get the same distance.

this actually upsets me. the inferno was such a great disc and these new ones are not at all the same. Its sad really.
I loved the original inferno, until the crappy SRP plastic got beat in then it flew like junk. so i bought a new one. loved it til it got too beat. same junk. then i bought the new blend 80/20 and immediately knew it wasnt the same mold. Reluctant, I went out and threw the two newbies. They fly NOTHING like the originals. Inferno, out of the lineup. and thats a shame cuz the originals I had BOMBED.
Dave, if you are still reading this I think its safe to say Inferno throwers just want the inferno. I'd let Steve know as Im pretty sure he doesnt read this board.

My thoughts exactly... disappointing.
Which also brings me to another question..... if a mold is changed significantly like this does it have to go through the PDGA again?

and I dont understand why its still called the inferno and the stamp is the same when, just by looking at it, you can clearly tell it is not.
I WAS HAD!

While I havent thrown the new Inferno, I have seen them and the mold does look different. I gripped them and the wing did seem smaller and shallower. I didnt buy it because while I wanted to try out the new plastic, this one just looked like a dunce that got out, but now I know they're all supposed to be that way. I'll still stick with my E Inferno.

I still have the 4 original Infernos in E plastic and love them. I have not had any problem with beat in. I kept the Proto for my wall and the Black E for the wall. I throw the others for long uphill shots.

we still have about 40 of the older ones at the shop.
if anyone wants them I would be willing to go 2 for $20 plus shipping!
I will probably put a few on the ebay store www.gatewaydiscgolfdirect.com (http://www.gatewaydiscgolfdirect.com)

I picked up a few new ones, the premium plastic i think they called it. I got the inferno X, supposed to be more head wind resitance. These things are not like the others. I was blasting them and only getting about 350 out of them, the old ones easy 420 plus. They are way more overstable and for those looking for infernos not what you want. Once beat maybe but seem to be way to flat to be able to get big d like the oldies.... they are weird in that mine are almost to slick to even get a good grip?

I think that I have an old, unthrown Inferno sitting in my box as well. I would be willing to make a trade for it.

Might hit you up on that offer, David. If I do then should I send a PM or e-mail?
