Has anyone out there compared these discs side by side? How similar are they in terms of feel and flight characteristics? Their technical specs seem to be very similar, has anyone thrown them side by side and would like to share?

I'm a big fan of the Classic Roc and just ordered some zones, I guess I'll share my thoughts in about a week. Just hoping someone could tell what I should expect to find.

Thanks,
Dion

Very similar feel, but the Zone is beadless.

The zones are much more overstable.

The D Zones are like overstable Classic Rocs with less glide and more speed.

The ESP Zones are like slightly broken in Classic Rocs that carry further.

Closest disc to a Classic Roc is the Zero Line Spike and it has softer plastic plus gripper pads.

The Zone in ESP flies nothing like a Classic Roc. It flies way better.

The zone is way out of the classic rocs league!!!

The Spike is more in between a Classic Roc and an XD stability wise. A lot of my friends throw Spikes and they are nowhere near as stable as my Champion Classic Rocs. I haven't got around to getting a Zone yet but it does sound interesting. How is it compared to a Pig? A bit less overstable but a lot longer and glidier?

I should have said DX Classic Roc. I really can't tell the difference in flight characteristics. Played a round with only DX CR and Spike to compare side-by-side and all throws were almost identical. Spike just feels better for putting with the softer plastic and gripper pads. Ironic it's called a Spike for such a level flying disc.

You're going to be very disappointed. The Zone is a VERY overstable midrange in the ESP plastic, and a straight to overstable midrange in the D. It is absolutely and completely different from a Classic Roc.

The problem for comparisons sake is that there are two distinct versions of the Classic Roc mold, a straight to understable version that was produced for years in DX almost exclusively, save a run of true CE plastic circa 2002-2003 and the newer overstable "blunt" nose version that the Champion Classic Rocs use (in addition to the new DX discs as well).

If you are to compare the Zone to the Classic Roc, hopefully you're comparing the newer version, a la the Champion Classic Roc...early field reports here locally have the Zone as faster but with less glide than the new Classic Roc mold.

Got my zones in the mail today and did some testing. This disc is stable! Much more stable then the champion classic roc in terms of resistance to turn and low speed fade. It has less float than a CR and is a touch faster. I think the zone is closer to the gator than the classic roc in terms of flight pattern. The feel is similar, the rim of the Zone is beefier than the CR. It may not become my main putter like the CR was, but it definitly fills the void of my gators.
