Attention women, please consider attending La Vie en Rose, a womens only event that I am helping to create. All activities for this event will take place at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. The park is home to an 18 hole disc golf course as well as hiking, canoeing, miniature golf, bicycling, a bat house, riding stables, craft village, country store, playgrounds, a pool, rv camping, tent camping and cabin rentals.

Your entry into the tournament provides you with three nights of primitive camping, two nights of live music (Friday and Saturday), lunch on Saturday, a light up night event hosted by Sun King Discs, a charity ace-run event sponsored by Revolution Disc Golf, a unique pro-am team shootout for the top pro and advanced women that will conclude the event as well as access to all park facilities (Note: additional charges will apply for some park activities such as canoeing, bike rental, horseback riding and miniature golf). If you would prefer to stay in a motel, there are some reasonably priced options quite close by.

The tournament will consist of 2 rounds on Saturday and 1 round on Sunday. Field is limited to 80 players. $1500 added to pro purse.

Are Intermediate and Recreational divsions being offered?

What's a Sprit Division?

It looks like the Spirit division is the name for an unsanctioned division of women playing for fun and to be part of this inaugural event.

Chris I appreciate your concern and we will add an intermediate division. I was hoping to create large divisions by limiting the number of divisions, but when the very first comment we get is in regards to this decision, I believe it is the wrong decision. So, when I finish this email, I will change the website to reflect that there is an intermediate division.

Chuck is correct about the Spirit Division, but that is going to undergo a bit of a change too. The initial thought was to allow beginners a very inexpensive division to play in, but instead of it being unsanctioned, the tournament is going to take care of the sanctioning fees from those individuals instead of passing that cost onto them. So it is still an inexpensive division, but it is a sanctioned one and we may think of it as our spirit division but it truly is the rec division. Again, I will make this more clear on the website.

Thank you for your interest and I'm sorry for any confusion.

Hey all:

It's an honor to be the Co-TD along with the Fabulous Florida Tour Director, Shawn Harrigan for this unique, inaugural event.

We've spent a good deal of time soliciting feedback from a core group of ladies to develop a weekend that will be memorable. We will continue to be open to ideas as we move forward in the planning process.

We will also be in need of male volunteers to staff this event and help really roll out the red carpet for the ladies.

Information for potential sponsors will be available soon on the tournament website:
www.julianakorver.net/rose (http://www.julianakorver.net/rose)

We will also have pictures from the The Magnolia Birthday Classic (http://www.waydowndisc.com) tournament and from Magnoliafest (http://www.magmusic.com/magnolia.htm) on the site soon, so y'all can view the beautiful facility.

Please email [email protected] with questions, suggestions, to be put on our volunteer e-mail list, or to inquire about sponsorship opportunities.

Good morning Juliana and Denny,
This sounds like a very cool event. I think our game will be much more fun when more women are involved. Everyone should encourage this and help out in any way possible. Any updates on the events so far?
Thanks,
Axis

Hey all!

Registration is off to a good start, with some very talented ladies on the list already. I'll be selling fundraising discs outside the country store at the Bear Creek Music Festival next weekend. Stop by and say "hey" if you're at the festival.

p.s. Just a reminder, this event has been created to appeal to women of all skill levels. Advanced and Intermediate divisions will be playing from the red tees and we'll have a temporary set of "green" teees for the recreational players. The players package is shaping up sweet already and entry fees, particularly for recreational players, are low.

More will be revealed . . .

Sounds like a great event. I would recommend talking with Vinnie Miller and Ed Coffey in Round Rock, TX; they run the TX Women's Championships (TWC) each year. They have come up with excellent ways of supporting the women and treating them like the Queens they are. (like bringing in all the guys as card escorts and caddies; and having local clubs set up "girlie stations" (their term, not mine :D) on the course that have water, fruit, treats, goodies, giveaways, etc - all kinds of things to give extra special treatment to the women - and it gets the whole local disc golf community involved in the event)

Happy Turkey Day!!!

Just wanted to post a few updates to goings-on with La Vie en Rose. First of all we're off to a very nice start to our fundraising. We will be adding $1,500 cash to the pro purses. We'll also be adding extra merch to the am purses. The players packages are very, very nice. Without giving away all our secrets, we will let it be known that the retail value will be about $100.

We're very excited to see our intial pro registrants:

Juliana Korver - Bowling Green, KY
Brandi Laudermilch - Spring Hill, FL
Addie Isbell - Modoc, SC
Angela Tschiggfrie - Iowa
Val Jenkins - Ohio
Pam Reineke - Orlando, FL
Sandy Gast - Orlando, FL
Sarah Stanhope - Greenville, SC

We want to emphasize that this event is for women of ALL SKILL LEVELS. While the pro open women will be playing the tough blue tees, the pro masters, advanced, and intermediate will play from the red tees and the rec players will play from a temporary set of green tees. All ladies will have a great time.

Paid entries will include two nights of primitive camping, two nights of live music, a hog-roast lunch on Saturday (with a veggie option), a bonfire, a night-lit event, one free toss at the "Ace for the Cure" fundraiser and lots of fun comradery.

I spoke with many ladies last weekend at the Players Cup, some of which are registered and some of which are on the fence. I'd like to strongly encourage all that are on the fence to buy themselves a holiday gift or ask a loved one to pony up to start 2009 off right. Guys out there that voice support for getting more women in the game, here's an opportunity for y'all to join together and sponsor a local gal or two to make the trip.

There are many reasons why disc golfing women will not want to miss this event, including:

1) It will be a blast.
2) The park is beautiful.
3) It'll be sunny and in the 70's during the day.
4) You'll meet other disc golf women from around the country
5) You'll get to meet Juliana, Val Jenkins, Angela Tschiggfrie, and other wonderful professionals.
6) You'll get to say years from now that you were at the first La Vie en Rose.
7) You'll have the red carpet rolled out for you, unlike any other event.
8) You'll contribute to and draw from the energy of a group of women dedicated to growing the sport and making it great.
9) You'll have the chance to earn a spot in the pro-am elimination shootout.
10) You'll have a chance to win a paid entry to the 2009 Southern Nationals Finals.
11) You'll earn A-tier PDGA points.

We are working on arranging airport rides and helping with other accomodations. If you are considering attending this event and have any questions, please send me an email:[email protected]

Ladies, the La Vie en Rose event is going to be fantastic! With Denny's hard work getting the course installed and the Suwannee Music Park being a perfect facility to host this event, you will not be disapponted! In addition, players like Juliana, Val and Angela being present will just add to the overall experience. To make it even easier, we've created an easy to use ONLINE REGISTRATION (http://www.sunkingdiscs.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2050) form...see you there!

I got back from spending a week in Live Oak on the 23rd and I needed the whole 24 hours to get the dirt and stink off me before spending the holiday with my family.

First, the bad news, the camera that I brought bit the dust, so Ive returned without any photos.
Im hoping that anyone whos up there soon will take some pictures and email me. Please, please, please. [email protected]

Now, the good news: we got a ton of good work done while we were there. Many, many, many annoying vines were ripped down by hand and tractor. Many routes were opened, trimmed, widened, and just plain made more playable and fair. Lots and lots of debris was cleared.

Huge thanks to Deborah for setting me up with a cabin for the week. The nighly shower and cable news fix was great. Had the pleasure of playing a round with Mark and Heather of the park staff and a few of their friends. Its great to see that that many on the park staff have gotten the disc golf bug.

Also enjoyed a visit from Vanessa Chambers, her husband Coleman and their two sons (Im sorry I forgot your names guys, but I wont forgot some of those sick shots you threw.) They were on an annual family disc golf trip to Florida on which they compete with handicaps for family bragging rights. Hope to get the chance to play again in December 09!

Got a lot of assistance from and enjoyed playing with Jeff Liddell, Roller Bob Theis, and Paulie Bagwell. Those old guys can put a lot of the younger crowd to shame in terms of their dedication and efforts toward bettering the sport.

The course details:
Hole 1: Widened the green area slightly on the left side of the basket.

Hole 2: Opened and cleaned a tighter short cut route to the left of the main right-to-left route from the blue tee. Opened additional lanes to the basket on the approach shot. There are now lots of options coming in to that green.

Hole 6: Moved the red tee up from 440 ft. to 320 ft. at the corner of the dogleg. Opened and cleaned the corner of the dogleg making it a lot easier to make the bend. Took down a couple more big trees in the fairway and removed a lot of debris from the fairway.

Hole 7: Removed a lot of debris to the right of the basket.

Hole 8: Cleaned the left side of the fairway off the blue tee. Took out three big trees from the middle of the fairway just past the red tee. Took out several trees down the left side of the fairway. Removed several huge vines. Removed a lot of debris from the fairway.

Hole 11: Marked the OB sinkhole on the right with orange-painted logs and white string. The OB line is at the high water mark to make the course play the same level of difficulty regardless of water level. Removed two smaller pimp trees from the fairway. Took out two trees right on the corner of the dogleg to make it possible for a good drive to set up a good birdie chance and not just an oustanding drive.

Hole 12: Took out a couple smaller trees in the fairway that looks out of place and openend up a clean line for a second shot down the left side of the fairway. The second shot looks a lot better and lines are more evident. Moved the short basket position to about 40 ft. past the existing long position.

Hole 13: Cleared out a big area to the right of the long basket position and re-located the short position there. The shot to the new location is either dead straight and tight or a right-to-left-to-right S shot. (dang, lefty hole!)

Hole 18: Cleared out a lot of trees and brush on the second shot. The second shot will still be tight, but the WTF factor has been eliminated. Marked the sink hole OB with orange-painted logs and white string.

p.s. We've decided that since this is a PDGA A-tier and all participants are required to be members, the tournament will be subsidizing the first ten first time PDGA members to register for the event with $25.

The first three to receive the subsidy are:
Wanda Langenback
Cindy Barnett
Bonnie Griffin

The team here at waydowndisc.com wishes you all Happy Holidays!!!

As 2009 approaches, were working hard preparing for the inaugural La Vie en Rose women-only tournament hosted by Juliana Korver. Weve been pleased with the initial support from many sponsors. Were also very happy to have 27 players registered thus far including multiple world and national champions. These ladies will be travelling to Florida from Georgia, Kentucky, Texas, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Iowa, Ohio, and California.

Id like to let all disc golf businesses, clubs, and individuals that are interested in supporting the women of disc golf and the future of our sport that we have several opportunities available to do so. We have a few sweet Inncolor Star Ontario Rocs remaining, signed Champion Plastic discs, and annual tee sign sponsorships. Details on all can be viewed: http://julianakorver.net/rose/sponsorship.pdf Weve sold 23 tee sign sponsorships thus far and have 11 remaining.

Also, boyfriends, husbands, and clubs are strongly encouraged to sponsor entry into the event for their local ladies.

How many times have yall heard we need more women in this sport? The time is now for all men that are interested in doing their part to help give the ladies a very special weekend to step up and pledge their support. Please take a look at: http://julianakorver.net/rose/sponsorship.pdf and pick an option of support that works for you.

Id love to hear your feedback and answer questions at any time.

Thanks in advance for your support,

Highly recommended!!

I got a chance to play at Live Oak this past week (with Denny and Jeff Liddell) during our family holiday disc golf trip through Florida. Its a beautiful setting within the woods, with some elevation. Lots of variety in shots is encouraged! The course rewards skills and focus, and its a good length as well. (Particularly for women, I tend to prefer a course that isn't just all about the power!). We only got to play one round, and we didn't get to look around the other amenities of the park very much (we had to boogie on down the road to get to the next course on our list), but it is clear that the Spirit of the Suwannee park will provide a unique setting for this event.

Also, its obvious that Denny and his crew have put a huge amount of effort into creating the course - that takes a special kind of dedication to the game.

If at possible, come to to the event. And in any case, stop by and play the course if you are in the area.
