Flyer is now available at

www.columbiadiscgolfclub.com (http://www.columbiadiscgolfclub.com)

For those who haven't played before, this is a crosstown tournament in which you play two very different courses. Earlewood is a short course with lots of elevation; Owens Field gives you the chance to open it up, with some long holes and level terrain.

Owens Field is awesome! See you there.

i know this isn't the correct thread but for the scfdc's was par set at 50?! ummmmmmmmm and can you say really low ratings for the last round?

cgkdisc
Sep 22 2008, 10:55 AM
The par value entered has no bearing on the ratings.

BigJerm
Sep 22 2008, 11:25 AM
i knew that. they were kind of seperate issues. i was just wondering why par was messed up on the page because i believe course par was around 57 every round. and a ssa 49 is pretty low. mel shuman said he played almost flawless. i know i made a couple of mistakes but shooting 8 down on a fairly difficult course.. i dont know i figured ssa would come in around 50.5 or higher

How about Stoney Hill as one of the future courses to be used for the SC Championship? Are there any new 18 hole courses in production around Columbia?

Thanks for the thought, but I think the consensus is to continue the current format in the foreseeable future. Owens Field fans want a tournament there, but at this time of year other activities preclude using the course for a whole weekend. Earlewood gives us a building, and chance for lower divisions to play Earlewood (the Earlewood Classic is Pro & Advanced only). Having the S.C. Championship be a crosstown fits both.

There is another course in the early planning stages, about 5 miles east of Owens Field. It's a terrific piece of land, but I think the city is stalled on its exact plans for it right now. Whenever it finally happens, I'm sure it will alter the club's plans.

For Stoneyhill....we've kicked around a few things. Our main tournament will remain in April---it gives us all winter to groom the course, and by then everything's leafed out but the grass hasn't gotten ahead of us. I'd love to have an October or November event, when the property and weather are beautiful, but a concern is maintenance (right now, the grass is high on 6 holes as it's in its late-season growth surge, and we've broken both of our mowers). We've talked about one day doing a cross-town with Chapin....or coupling with Sayde's to have separate events on Saturday & Sunday of the same weekend (play both, or take your pick), and Darrell Lambrecht has proposed a match play or team play tournament there. We'll see.

I really like the current format of this tournament... I know a lot of people would prefer leaving Owens out of this one and playing all 4 rounds at Earlewood, but Owens is a great course and deserves to have at least one tournament a year out there. As long as the course is kept well, it's loads of fun and will only make you a better player!

davidsauls
Sep 23 2008, 10:42 AM
Yes, though we already have two Earlewood-only events (Earlewood Classic & March Madness). And there are a lot of people who, like you and Jonas, like Owens Field. (There is even someone who's not crazy about Earlewood, though to protect him from public ridicule, I'll withhold his name)

By combining these two very different courses in one event, you certainly get to test your entire shot repertoire. Which strikes us a good test in a tournament labeling itself a "championship".

In lieu of a normal players' party, we have scheduled the State Fair for the weekend of the tournament. An option for visitors who are interested, to drop in on the fair festivities Saturday or Saturday night.

The fair is very close to Owens Field. We'll have maps with an alternative route from Earlewood to Owens. In the meantime, anyone practicing Owens should be alert to potential traffic problems on Rosewood Drive.

I hope everyone knows that the LSU vs. South Carolina game is going to be played the weekend of this tourney here in Columbia, that means traffic is going to be a bastard and its even going to be worse if LSU beats florida and LSU comes into town undefeated. So be prepared for problems!!

I know you have to be joking about a Chuck town sweep Jonas. And congrats on playing well at the USDGC. you da man

Nope its cool, i noticed that you have a Gateway Disc Sports link on your profile....whats up? I talked to Dave Mac and he said you contacted him and he sent you a few discs awhile back but as you probably already know he is currently not adding anymore players to the team due to the tremendous amount of emails for sponsorship he gets....however, he and I say thanks for the support of Gateway though.

See everyone Saturday though

USC-LSU game has been scheduled for 8 p.m. Should be very little traffic problem, only Saturday evening leaving Owens Field and headed to hotels (or crash pads). Nevertheless, we'll have maps routing everyone around the main traffic snarls while traveling from course-to-course (down Harden Street, instead of Assembly/Rosewood).

I lmao when I read your posts. KJ lives downtown in the Chuck and is a club member. You should thank me for motivating you to keep playing. Just keep throwing Innova.
Are you dropping down to Intermediate due to this injury?

I do have to withdraw my sweep prediction due to our Adv Master not playing in the event :( The rest should be a lock.

Thanks for the props on USDGC. It was fun!

Im glad you laughed because its always lighthearted. And I might just play Rec. Don't worry bout the injury, but if you are concerned I will let you keep the stitches when I get them out /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I like your comment about throwing Innova, I will keep throwing Innova long range drivers just like Garret Guthrie, Nikko, and all the other guys sponsored by Gateway. The great thing about Gateway is that you can throw any manufacturers disc!! But as always I keep my Warlock, Wizard, Element, Demon, Magic, Illusion, Blaze, and Sabre in my bag at all times!! If you want to try any of the discs mentioned above I will have a few on hand.

See you this weekend & bring some competition with you.

Stack, I heard some of the same stuff about GG. Now if Nikko changes teams you know gateway is in trouble  Dont think that would happen, "Blood is thicker than Innova, " I could be wrong though

Oct 14 2008, 01:55 PM
wow... another CDGC... imagine that! :)

and I wasn't trying to start rumors about GG... figured it was public knowledge since he told me he was switching @ USDGC (and I don't even know him!... it was just one of the first things out of his mouth).

Nikko... no offense but I could see Innova not wanting him (yet?) even if he wanted to switch. Regardless I would hope that Nikko wouldn't go looking elsewhere after all gateway (and his uncle) have done for him.

I'm personally still hoping Cam Todd goes with Gateway (if) he comes out of retirement. Would rock the dg world a little bit... could possibly have a gateway guy win USDGC/Worlds and would be good for Cam since he'd have the best of both worlds (be able to use his signature discraft putter... throw rocs/teebirds and gateway stuff)

ok... now lets start the who was first (CDGC) game? not starting 'shtuff' ... just curious. And not who's club was first (although that would be fun to know... but who first used CDGC)

I don't do quotes, but I said Team Chuck sweep. Team Chuck is like the traveling/varsity/dominate/straight up rule group/faction of the CDGC. I am laughing as I type this stuff so just bear with me.

I would love to try some gateway this weekend, as long as there isn't any cherry pie stuck to the bottum. If you were really injured, I'd be the guy with the "get well soon" balloon. I got nothing but love for you!

Columbia Disc Golf Club was the first to use CDGC. (for obvious reasons) Officially- October 1st 1999 we applied for and were granted our federal ID # as a Non Profit Organization by the IRS. Tim Coghill was our First President and his face appears on all Merch Bucks handed out to ams during our tournaments..Ok, the last bit is false. However, Charleston is probably best known in this state as CDGC. Of course, there is also the Chapin Disc Golf Club that is also known as....that's right CDGC. They were the 2nd to have the name. With that being said, there is a good chance that the CDGC will probably sweep the South Carolina Championships.

May not work.

Columbia's closest river is the Congaree- still CDGC
Chapin's closest is Crooked Creek. - Still CDGC
Charleston's closest is Cooper River? - Still CDGC

For those practicing at Owens before the tournament---

Hole 14 has been altered due to some storage trailers parked on the fairway. An alternate tee-pad will be used, resulting in an approximately 240' shot. I haven't seen this personally, so can't tell you WHERE the new teepad is, but I have on reliable authority that there is one.

For those who don't know---holes 17 & 18 fled their original locations due to invasion of a running track, and wedged themselves in between holes 10 & 12. The order of play is to play 10, pick up 17 & 18, then resume with hole 11. Confusing? It'll be all clear at the players' meeting, but just a heads up if you're practicing.

(Wondering why the holes just haven't been renumbered, so they flow in an order even a kindergardener could follow? Good question. And there's a good answer. There are plans to completely revamp Owens Field sometime after this tournament, and it was deemed not worth revising all the substantial and engraved tee signs for a temporary situation).

Word also has it that a tremendous amount of work has been done at Owens, and the course is in great shape. (Wondering why I don't state this from firsthand knowledge? Good question. For which there isn't a good answer, or at least not one I'm confessing to).

In the continuing absence of the tour page of the PDGA website, I've been asked to remind those in and near South Carolina that you can find lots of information on area tournaments at

www.scdgo.net (http://www.scdgo.net)

This includes entries for this weekend, of course (now up to 33 pre-registered, which is promising for an event that frequently has a good number of Saturday morning registrants), and apparently may include those for Upstate and Charleston---there are links, though currently inactive.

Click on "2008 SCDGO Tournaments".

(also check out "other area tournaments).
