All:
I am in the beginning stages of starting a league in the Lowcountry of, SC.
I am looking to see how other folks run theirs. This will beindividual handicapped play.
I would like to run it over x # of weeks. How do other leagues handicap play? If we said the series was going to be 12 weeks long what kind of provisions can be made for someone who cannot make all 12? How do other clubs award prizes? What do the financials look like?
Any and all feedback appreciated. Please share what you are doing that works, and what does not work.

Several of the ones you'll find out there are derived from the handicapping document I produced in 1990. Since then, the improved version is using the PDGA ratings engine which takes course ratings into account and was adapted for the DGU service.

Format for weekly handicap is "Players Choice".
Players can chose from the one or more of the following:
Straight handicap $5
Match Play $5
Skins $5
4 separate CTP's $1 each ($4 total)
Ace Fund $1
Club fund $1
Players may get into as many formats as they want. Although the Club fund must be paid each week. So Minimum of $1 Max of $21. We run ours year round, and we pay out cash to everyone at all events. No end of year prizes..... But we are thinking of doing so, but most here seem to rather get the cash.

This is the best League and type of format I have ever witnessed. Keep it up guys. I'm trying to bring this to the minds of the board up here, but getting people to the course is hard enough, and gathering more than $5 or $6 dollars is even harder.

Handicapping takes more work so make sure you are up to it. I like the model that the Kendall players use and the model that the Jacksonville players use.
I have not seen the PDGA ratings for courses. I would be interested to see how they "weight" the handicaps. Many clubs have their own formula and have developed their own software. Asking them for it may not be so easy, but they may provide you with tips none the less.
The Jacksonville club, RCDGC, has a website, but the Kendall folks do not.
Contact Randy from Kendall here in my course directory :

As league director you are gonna have to get a leather hide as folks will want to blame you for all of their disc golf shortcomings.
Good luck, and most of all have fun. Having fun is the best way to promote the sport.
