well, its time for another trip to Ozark Mountain disc golf course and a fun filled weekend of CAMPING and Disc Golf.

This may be the last event here ( and we will keep saying that each time until it actually is) so dont miss this one.

We should have a flier ready by this weekend to hand out at the Gateway Open in Centralia.

The event will be October 25th and 26th and the format will most likely be the same as the Spring event with a late 1st round start 12:00 noon on Saturday and 2 full rounds on Sunday. One on Ozark and One on Akita's Run.
This should give players ample time to get in and practice the courses beforehand.

Final details will be posted here soon.
We will have online registration and we hope to come close to filling up this time at 144.

we are going to have several workdays in the month of October if anyone wants to come down to camp and play just send me an email,,,david@gdstour.com

There are very few rules and regulations at this event, but absolutely no dogs allowed!

Getting it sanctioned tomorrow, I wanted to make sure we actually got the grass cut before we did.

The course is looking sweet and there are a few minor pin changes.

I'll try and get some fresh pictures up on my blog soon!

sweet, weekend of mowing and course preparation I assume then. Thanks for all the work you guys are doing to make this a premier event.

(Not like we can see the pdga calendar anyway!) We'll be there regardless. The buzz is growing by the minute. I can't wait, hopefully the weather will be spectacular.

Shawn H and I gave up on the Tulsa Open the same weekend. They have no flyer on their website, no return email, no sanctioning and no return phone call.

Anyway, if you have not played the Ozark Mountain Course, you really should come out just for that. This is my favorite course I've played. The most fun you'll have on a disc golf course. Oh, if you keep it in the fairway. Actually even if you don't.

If you not up for camping there are several hotels nearby.

The anticipation of seeing this course is killing me!
Can't wait to play this thing a few times. I hear everyone is getting a good players pack too...can't wait!

Glow disc, harvest season, camping, polish frisbee, bad ***** disc golf = good times!

4 days till we leave Iowa. Greenleaf bailed, so one less. I guess the Frizz was too much.

IA numbers still will be strong. I'm guessing 17, that's including Pat and TJ from the QC.

What's up with the added cash for this one? B or C tier?

I've heard $1,000 for first guaranteed, any truth to that? If so, I hope it is not paying $250 for second like some tourneys out there.

Blase, I read that information on the Nebdisc forum too. I have no confirmation from David about any added booty, or how it will be spread, but the information came from one of his sponsored players. You and Liz should make the trip. It's well worth it, and gas is cheap(er) now. :D

Three more Iowans in today, we're up to 20!

Update.....from McCormack himself:

I guaranteed $1000 for 1st at the Btier in the spring,
This will be a C tier and probably about $600-$750 for first!
The players package will be about $30-$40 of value with only about $10 coming out of the AM prize pool and Zero out of the pro!

Sincerely David McCormack

Boro's info was not accurate, it might have been an assumption made based on the April tournament.

Had the time of our lives, and I think that I speak for all the Iowans when I say that. Great weather, great camping, great fireworks, great golf, great payout.

If you are a disc golfer, and you think you've seen it all, and haven't been to these courses, you haven't seen it all. Let me assure you of that.

Thanks David for everything, we had a blast. I loved the new pin placements.

A lot a fun challenging holes with hands down the worst footing I've ever played on in any tourney with by far the worst T-Pads. Had a great time and will remember some of those holes for a long time, beautiful property. Payout was kind of screwy I thought with 20 pro's paying out 8 spots going $600, $300, $200, $100, $80, $70, $60, $50. Maybe I just feel that way because I didn't get first.

Jay,
Thanks for the leg work in getting the Iowa Players down for the event and I'm glad to hear you all had a good time.

Nikko Locastro won Open $600
David McCormack won Masters $300
Time lewis won Advanced $150
Dan Moss won intermediate

low sores for the rounds were:
Tanner Duncan shot a 68 (-4) first round on Ozark
Travis Blaise shot a 69 (-3) 2nd round on Ozark
Nikko shot a 49 (-5) on Akita's, ( he was -2 total for the event and the win!!!)

Tim lewis won advanced with 76 ( ozark) 54 ( akita's) 81 (ozark)for a total of +13

I'm projecting 1000 rated rounds at 73 1st round at Ozark and a 74 for the 2nd round with each stroke being worth 5 or 6 points and a 54 for Akita's with each stroke being worth 7 or 8

I'll have the full results and some pics up soon!

Thanks to everyone for making this such a great event at the Ozark!

I put the total in the payout calculator & if you throw an extra $200 to 1st the payouts are somewhat close to what it says to payout. It is a little top heavy but, it is not that much out of proportion.

Oct 27 2008, 09:46 PM
yeah there were 23 pros and I added over $250 to the open and didn't take out any pdga fees.
It seemed like a decent payout for a C tier, maybe someone can show me a larger or typical payout for a c tier event.

Travis, not counting the your +12 on the first round you shot 2 rounds probably rated well over a 1000,,, which seems pretty darn good for the WORST TEES and WORST footing you ever played on, (with concrete tees do you think you might have shot 1100 rated rounds)???
Heck I thought all of the Dakota's were one big rock!

:D:D

as far as the tees go,,,, it is a mountain and there are a lot of rocks.
Personally I didn't see any players slip or fall on the tee's, as for walking down the trails thats another story.

Anyway the course is always improving and getting better each event.
I did have plans for adding some rubber mats, but I'm not convinced they are good for your, hips, knees, feet and ankles!!

Dave,
One thought on th mats, any amount of rain, and the rain will make them slippery, dippery, do.

Only thing to make tees better is picks and sweat.

peace,
Ron

PS. The Ozark course is one of the biggest challenges out there in the DG world  :cool:/msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif :D/msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I don't think I could have shot much better than a 69 out there even with perfect T-Pads, I'm just stating a fact, of all of the tourneys I've played in, I've never thrown off of worse t-pads, natural or otherwise, that's all. I would definitely rate this course one of the most difficult I've played, with the elevation and tight fairways with no forgiveness for not staying in them. I plan on coming back sometime in the near future for sure.

As brutal of a round that first one was for me on the Ozark course, the next day's rounds were equally gratifying, especially deucing holes 3 and 4, my last two holes on Akita's to move into 5th place, knowing I needed to get both of them and had to have Doug Bickell par both of them for me to take solo 5th. I was excited when I heard that first place was $600 bucks, thinking that 5th would be somewhere between $150 and $180. I was not aware that the majority of the added cash was going to be given to the winner only. I know that it is up to the TD to disperse the money how he or she wants to, but I'm just used to the conventional way of doing it, where the cash is added to the whole and then divided amongst the players using the payout calculator.

I did not have to look far to find this example, in fact someone reading this thread actually PM'd it to me:

LOD (http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=7489)

Either way, I think the courses were very bad-[censored] and the players pack was sweet with really cool long sleeve T's and I bought an awesome hoody with the tournament logo I liked it so much. I would recommend playing these courses to anyone who likes a serious disc golf challenge!

Thanks a lot Dave for a great experience!!!!!

TB,
After seeing some of your drives and hearing about your rounds, I"m pretty sure you could get 6-8 under on Ozark, especially in the spring when there are WAY less leaves on the trees.
The courses were playing extra Tough ( the way I like them) this time.

I'll try and get the Spring event on the schedule a lot sooner so more players can make it down.
I'm looking at the 21st and 22nd of March right now, but that may change!

glad to hear you still had a great time despite how you felt about the tees!!

Still waiting for this David! Thanks again for resurrecting these events. Personally, I can't wait to come back, I'd forgotten how much I really enjoy these courses, and what a nice weekend away from pretty much everything.......

Also, from what I heard, we WILL have a better trash exit strategy next time. Apologies on behalf of the IA crew for that.

Still waiting, as are many.....another month gone by, no response. And why is Caker telling people that the spring tournament is 3/14 and 3/15. pdga.com shows two st. louis events that weekend. Get your chit together GDS! This is a pretty simple request coming from the group that made this tournament a little more than a glorified st. louis mini.

Don't let this deter you from the next Ozark tournament! I heard Dave might just Co-TD and have someone else run it. If Dynamic Discs runs it, the results will be updated online after every round.

Plus the courses are unlike anyothers around!!
