So, time for this month's guess your rating post. Whatcha think you'll be on Tuesday?
ChrisWoj
Sep 05 2008, 04:42 AM
My guess is 976.
Probably the last sizable jump I have for a while, considering that thats exactly the level I've been playing since the start of this year. I'll need to really get on my horse the rest of 2008 to move up with that year-end update.
not yet included: Parklane Drive Open, April and Freedom Flight, July. Should counter-act each other and hold out near my present rating when the TDs get on their horses and get the info to the PDGA.

My last update I went from 982 to 973.
However, most of my tournaments since then have been pretty decent.
I'm guessing up to 976

I'm probably going to drop into the 870's after one tournament where I played some of the worst golf this year, but the last tournament I played which wont be counted on this update I average 935 so hopefully in the winter update it'll shoot back up.

scooter if you don't hit 1010 it's gonna be super close.
Anyway, I'm kinda cheating because I have my own rating calculator, but this will be the first test to see how accurate it is...
it says mine is going to go up to 930. Only because one of my TD's couldn't turn the report in on time, so those rounds will have to wait.
I've got 10 other players ratings predicted so I'm anxious to see how accurate it is.

I kind of pooped my pants the last round at worlds which will probably keep me from hitting 1010. I needed to shoot 1012 for the event and finished at like 1008.

no change- 943. unfortunately my good rounds at wvo will go in next update and it will jump to 958- need to shoot poorly at the HHO in october to preserve my am eligibility for vti.
few rounds + inconsistent golf = mad ratings swings
Up from 915 to 926, making my way up...

Did I misconstrue the rule of not including rounds that are 60 points below your rating? I was under the impression that those rounds would be dropped.
cgkdisc
Sep 08 2008, 01:09 PM
Those who shoot more than 60 points below their rating are not used a propagators to determine the SSA for that single round but their rating may count if it's not more than 2.5SD or more than 100 points below their rating.

JohnLambert
Sep 08 2008, 04:46 PM
With as many rounds as you've racked up, unfortunately playing above your rating will only have a minimal effect on your next rating. I'm only saying this because I thought the same thing when I was rated 914 and was playing 940. I played so many rounds my average is hard to change. I need to either start shooting all 1000 rated rounds or I'm going to have to wait until my older rounds drop off.
BTW: I went up 8 point to 929......slow and steady? It would sure help if I'd stop throwing an occasional 900 rated round.

Heh heh...embarassed to say I've got you beat with back-to-back rounds...in my first ever sanctioned tournament I immediately followed an 824 rated round with a 945 rated one. 121 point swing of redemption. Oof.

From 820's early on this year at Bowling Green to a 965 a couple weekends ago in Illinois. There may be a couple horrid rounds in there under 820 too but I couldn't bring myself to double check every event through the summer. The 965 is my highest round to date, rating is climbing currently at 887. There are a good amount of 900+ rounds so by all rights I should be able to offically mov eup at the next update if I can stay semi-consistent.

Psh, I've had a bigger spread than that at one tournament before ;) Thankfully it was over a year ago.
I calculated my standard deviation yesterday and next update it should be around 28, if I didn't play another round. Means anything 70pts below my avg round is dropped. :) So happy to be finally tightening that up!

Yeah what kinda sucks is when I started shooting GOOD rounds, like around 1000, it made my standard deviation go crazy. I wonder if maybe they should also exclude your highest round when determining your SD....nah that would be miniscule I guess.

Sep 15 2008, 07:07 PM
Your own St Dev though, even without that one 995 rated round, is still pretty sporadic. You're looking at a range, even without that round, of 872 to 969 which is 97 points and not a ton of consistency in between. Things are going to go crazy when that happens.

My ratings have been all over the place, too. From 844 to 981. My 23 rated rounds include nine that are under 900 and five that are 950 or above. I really hope my second season will bring me at least some consistency because this is killing me!

Oh I totally agree, but before I had nothing but bad rounds it was kinda leveled out. I guess I'm thinking more ahead, about when I actually start throwing over 1000 rated rounds, when my spread goes from 872 to 1030. It makes me wonder why they only take the LOWER round out of the SD calculation when the highest round makes just as much impact. Am I right...... or not thinking clearly? If my goal was to get my SD lower, I'd have to consistantly shoot rounds near my rating. Since my goal isn't to stay the same, I'm trying to shoot hot rounds, which will make my SD suffer, for a period of time anyway. I'm wondering if rounds that previously were omitted by SD will be re-introduced if my SD goes up. Hmm.
My current SD is 27.43 (With unofficial rounds included), it went up from 26 because I had some more 985-997 rounds.
