Thats a good question...I played 4 of the 5 qualifiers at $40 a pop, then the finale at 50 or so. Oh, and the checkpoint challenge. Maybe around $300 or so, but I made up for it by blowing more money on discs and other stuff. Definitely worth it though.

redsealking
Oct 13 2008, 12:35 AM
Portland is roughly mid way, and has at least 4-5 hotels ranging in prices. I think the host hotel is right up the road from Guth though, might be worth it so you don't have to drive far after the player's party, Hopefully someone will post the host hotel info, as well as others in the area.

I stayed at the Quality Inn for the tournament in April. It has a pool, hot tub, and is directly on the beach (just a few hundred feet from the USS Lexington). The rooms are listed at $69/night, but I'm pretty sure I paid less

This is a list of places to stay and eat proposed by a local that does not post here.
-----
"A windsurfing friend of mine lives on North Beach, and I asked her how the scene at North Beach is, thinking maybe that NB would be a good "in-between" spot for people to stay. I've heard a rumor on the PDGA boards that we have a host hotel, but I don't know what it is. Here's what she said:

---start---
Yes, I think that North Beach would be great for them.

The Quality Inn, which is next door to the Radisson hotel in the commercial district of North Beach, is really nice. Nice rooms, pool area, etc. It probably costs about $100/night.
Here's their contact info:
3202 Surfside Blvd.
Corpus Christi, TX 78402
(361) 883-7456
http://www.qualityinn.com/hotel-corpus_christi-texas-TX734?promo=gglocal

A less expensive alternative would be the Gulf Beach II. It's about $59/night on Fri-Sun, $39/night on weekdays. It's got nice bay view, decent rooms. Ask for non-smoking and waterview rooms, as half the rooms face the highway. The smoking rooms really smell like smoke.
3500 Surfside BLVD
Corpus Christi, 78402-1319

Restaurants would be:

Blackbeards on the Beach - moderately priced, seafood, burgers, guy playing guitar in the back. Full bar.
3117 Surfside Blvd, Corpus Christi, TX 78402
361- 884-1030

Pier 99 - similar to Blackbeards but actually on the water and has a back deck. Full bar.
2822 N Shoreline Blvd, Corpus Christi, TX 78402-1006
(361) 887-0764

Breakfast places are limited on the beach but there is a great Mexican place pretty close just across the Harbor Bridge:
Taqueria Garibaldi
200 N Staples St
Corpus Christi, TX 78401
(361) 884-5456

Another cool thing about North Beach is that the city bus service is real good. We take it a lot to downtown. #78 red trolley (75 cents) leaves from a number of bus stops on North Beach every half hour and takes you to Staples Street station where you can catch a bus to anywhere with just a 10-cent transfer. You could take a bus right up Staples to Garabaldi's, for example.

North Beach definitely has its own kind of funky feeling going on but it's all in the eye of the beholder. Some people love it. Others think it is run down. I like the non-commercial, non-homogenized aspect of it. To me, it's like an old-fashioned, unpretentious beach community.

Up by where we live has turned out to be pretty popular with kiters lately, so that adds a splash of color and excitement to the beach. Also, the 10-foot-wide sidewalk that runs up and down most of the beach adds a pedestrian-friendly aspect to the beach.
---end---

Since "A" pool needs to be in Ingleside early Saturday and West Guth early Sunday, and knowing that many hotels are just islands of parking lots -- nothing to do at all nearby -- I thought NB would be cool, especially if a golfer brings a non-golfer. My $.02. I really like the area, especially for windsurfing.

Hans"

Oct 27 2008, 10:22 AM
Matt hall series champion
Mike Olse- 2nd
Joe Torres- 3rd

Emily Lawrence- series womens champ

Jerry Perez- series pro master champ

Guillermo Avalos- Series champ
Ben Avalos/Mike Smith- tied for 2nd in series

Randall Karshis- Int Series champ
Smokey Valdez- series 2nd
Lance hankins- series 3rd

Jose Garza- Series rec champ

Shannon Meisterheide- series Int womens champ

We only kept 5% of entry fees and that was after pdga fees and players packs, so wasnt a lot available for bonus payout. Next year we will do at least $5, seemed to work for hot. In the int division, for example, 5% was a mere1.35 for each entry, rec 1.10, adv- 1.85 and pro- 3.10.
