While out playing casually today my disc landed in a briar thorn patch. While retrieving the disc I received several cuts on my left leg and had blood dripping down. This got me thinking about what if this had happened during a tournament. What if a player received an injury that needed some attention, but nothing that could take them out of the competition. I know I certainly wouldnt want to finish a tournament with my leg covered in blood worrying about infection. I saw nothing in the rule book that addressed this issue. Would play for the group be halted while the injured player went to the course HQ and got some medical attention, or would he/she have to skip the next hole(s) and take penalty strokes?

Obviously both sides have cons in that if you allow the player to seek medical attention you slow down play for the group and groups behind you, but if you go with the other option the injured player is unfairly punished for trying to stay safe and healthy. Would it be possible for the groups to continue without the player until he/she can rejoin them and then when the cards are all in have the player play the holes they had to miss with an official following or would they simply have to choose to play through the pain?

I think this is something that needs mentioning. I know I wouldnt want to be playing with a bloodied up body, esp. if I can seek some medical attention in a few mins and get back to playing.

The simplest thing here is find an official and follow the rules under 801.02.D

D. During tournament play, no group may
play through the group ahead unless the
group ahead is required to stand aside in
accordance with the rules or as directed
by an official.

The official can direct the entire group to stand aside while medical attention is sought and applied. The group would then continue playing once things are taken care of.

Heck yeah! Band-aids, neosporin, small swiss army knife, finger nail clippers and a benidryl stick for bug bites and nasty weeds. A small bottle of hand sanitizer is handy, too.
