More information..this time about food.
Lunch will available for purchase on site for the Sunday lunch. This meal will be $5 and it will be a Cajun style meal (menu has not been entirely set yet). All profit from this meal goes back into DEPC (helping pay for players packs).
Now the sweet food news. Lunch on Saturday will be FREE to all players! One of our sponsors wants to make sure that no one goes hungry at our event. The exact meal has not been set yet but it looks as though it will be a BBQ of some type.
Once the meals/menus have been set, they will be announced. More information coming soon...

Some more interesting news....
The bounty for an ace on hole 10 is back this year. Each round it is worth $50. If no one hits it in the first round, it carries over to the second so that it is worth $100. Each round that it does not get hit, it carries over. If it is hit during a round, the next round it starts back over at $50. If no one hits it during the 4 rounds, it will be given away at a drawing of all players.
There will also be a bounty for course records. If anyone can break (not tie) a DEPC 20 hole course record, they will receive $100 for each record they break.
Both of these bounties are being brought to you by one of our sponsors. More information is coming....

Since we all want more ladies to come out and play one of our sponsors is offering to split the entry fees for females. That means that the entry fees for all females is half off their listed divisional fee!
The sponsor is going to pick up the other half for you. That means ladies pay $31 for pro, $23.50 for advanced and $16 for Intermediate and Recreational. We will also have ladies only CTPs and you know Mrs Scotty will have some nice surprises for you also. Ladies, please come to this event, you will not regret it.
I have more information coming...

I am not a TD that likes to talk a lot about added cash for pros but I am going to now. We are working with a sponsor to make sure we have a good amount added. I can not say the exact amount right now but I can guarantee that it will be more than what we had added last year. If you need to see how much, just take a look at the payouts from last year and know that it will be richer.
How's that for a teaser?

Speaking of sponsors, we are always looking for more. We still need hole sponsors ($25 a hole) and people to donate items for CTPs and basket toss and other things. The money raised from this will go back into the DEPC so that all divisions will benefit from it. We have 20 holes and have all ready had a few people speak up to sponsor them. Don't be left out, all of the cool people are sponsors for the DEPC.
Speaking of CTPs and basket toss, let me tell you more about those. There will be a CTP on each hole, each round. Ask some people that have played and they will tell you that there are some sweet prizes available. We will be doing a basket toss on Staurday and Sunday. During lunch on Saturday, we will have the qualifiers. It will be $1 a shot or 6 shots for $5. The people who make finals (number to be announced later) will shootout on Sunday after the 4th round. Not all of the prizes are set yet, but everyone that makes the finals will win at least a disc of choice. I can say that one of the prized will be a Innova portable basket (model to be determined). By the way, all DEPC players get 1 free shot just for playing.
As the sweet news comes in, I will let you all know.

This is a can't miss. I've played lots of events all over the place and this event is consistently one of the best out there.
There are two types of people that weekend - those who have an amazing experience that are there and those who sit and home and have no clue what they are missing.
And gotta give a shout out to the course - hands down the fairest course in NC. Every single shot is fair from both tees and all pin placements.
Can't wait!!!

We still need hole sponsors. All of the money from these sponsorships will be going to help pay for the player packages. $25 a hole to help sponsor a great event.
Oh and as of now there is a little over $1100 added cash to the event for payouts. I have a feeling more will be coming in for the payout from a sponsor.

This is a fun event that always adds an interesting twist. Last year we had 6 holes in the water (there was a huge island and all water was casual). Traditionally the cost is $10 for the day (2 rounds) and lunch is very casual and long (cookout with some tunes). Word has it that there will also be mini golf. If anyone has any questions or needs directions, you can call Fred at 252 916 2667. This will be fun and you do not want to miss out. Plus you are helping out a great event...the DEPC.

UPDATES.....
The food for the weekend has been decided on. The free lunch on Saturday will be from Smithfields BBQ. There will be BBQ chicken and pork along with slaw, potato salad, hush puppies and drink (Tea/cola). Once again thanks to our major sponsor for providing this meal.
The meal on Sunday will be Jambalaya with rice, bread, cookies and drink. If you do not want the Jambalaya (I am making it so it will be good), you can get a sandwich and chips instead. This meal will be the one that you have to pay for and it should be about $5 (final price not set).
That is all for now. Get those entries and hole sponsors in soon :)

This is not going to be a good year for us, we are consumed by what might be the most injuries to starters for any team ever other than the Marshal trajedy. After Holtz leaves this year to coach for another team, ECU will fall back down in the ranks. NC STATE will begin the slow but steady crawl to a yearly top 25 team within three years. Write it down or copy and paste, that is the word. Oh, and SCOREBOARD! :D

This is my first time playing the DEPC... where are the tee pads/pins for the two extra holes going to be?
MTL21676
Sep 24 2008, 06:57 PM
Hole A is between the softball fields. The basket sits in between the two trees by themselves just past "L turn." in the parking lot. The basket is a temporary basket.
The short tee is located in the patch of trees and gives the player many options including a big hyzer, a "hit the gap" straight shot, and even a sidearm. This hole is about 230 - 250 feet.
The long tee is located back to the left of 14s beside the fence. It is a roughly 300 foot low ceiling left to right shot.
Hole B plays to the practice basket. The short tee tees through the large gap from the playground to the basket and is slight right to left shot and around 200 feet.
The longer tee creates a unique angle to the same gap as it tees to left of the playground area and is around 290 feet.
Both holes are in the flavor of each set of tees (the shorts are fairly simple and just require a simple shot and the longs are very technical challenging holes that can be easily birdied and easily bogeyed.)
Both of these are great holes and I look forward to playing them!

I love my tournament staff, the answer questions correctly before I even see them. This is one reason the DEPC runs so smoothly. Good questions Wave and thanks for asking them.
Pre-Registration is up to 65. Cindy has been working on tournament stuff this week. I will be going down to Rock Hill this week to load up on goodies. Jerry and Linda (Cindy's parents) will be here next week to help and my family will be at the event. If you get a chance, please thank the event staff, Cindy's parents, my parents/sister and sponsors. With out these people, this event really would not be possible.
Also if you want tell Cindy thanks and give her a hug. Remember not only is she helping out with the event, but she has to live with me and put up with me :)

Hey ams, were going to throw and extra $250 your way. I know it does not sound like a lot, but it will make a difference.
67 spots are spoken for. Contact Max or myself so you do not get shutout.

I am playing the DEPC blind & am wondering if I can get a quick down-low on the course. Is it a good mix of wooded-open lefty-righty short-long? How long are some of the longer holes?
But yeah looking forward to seeing everyone & carding some birds!
jonvee
Oct 17 2008, 12:41 PM
When you coming up Ben?
Its a good mix of all of those actually. The shortest hole is 150 ft. The longest is 450ish. Alot of the holes have multiple options for shots. A few holes have mandos. A couple of really tight wooded holes on the long pads.
MTL21676
Oct 17 2008, 01:07 PM
W = White Pad
B = Blue Pad
S = Short Pin
L = Long Pin
A = Added hole A
HB = Added Hole B
1W - Roughly 180 - righty favored S curve
1B - Roughly 250 - Hit a gap - pretty straight for 90% of the flight, then hyzers at the end
2W - 350 field, uphill. OB right and left
2B - 400 - same thing, just the tee is 50 feet back and you have a gap to hit
3W - Blind 180 turnover around / over OB.
3B - same thing, just about 250 and not as an extreme of an angle
4W - slow turning left to right shot across a field into an openning about 260
4B - big high anny into the same gap - about 300
5W - simple gap to hit in front of the tee - field from there on about 250 and straight
5B - must hit a gap and slowy hyzer to the pin - about 320
6 (one tee) - low flick or thumber or a very technical turnover - also a tight straight to hyzer shot - about 230
7W - 230 in a field, basket is guarded by trees - sets up well for a hyzer as the gap is right of the basket, however, lots of options
7B - 370 across the parking lot - very tricky hole. Most players just bomb it into the trees and hope to get a put
AW - Lots of options of the tee, most choose big hyzer. About 230 - basket sits between some cedar trees
AB - 320 low ceeling turnover or roller
8W - either a tight turnover or tight spike hyzer - only about 160 feet
8B - very tight and narrow 280 - can either play a hyzer or an extreme flip up Roc - very tricky
9W - tee at a gap just ahread of dense woods - about 230, pretty straight forward hyzer
9B - same exact shot, just about 300 and have to make it through the gap. Very easy to blow up on
10W - 150 feet, field. Triple mando - straight forward
10B - 180 in a field, pretty simple
11W to L - about 340 - starts in the woods and goes through them to a field - can try to go through a small gap and go straight to the pin or play a safer bailout hyzer.
11W to S - a pretty straight forward hyzer - about 240 - basket is inside the woods. very fast green
11B to L - par 4 - starts in a field and enters the woods. Tee shot basically is placement in the fairway. From there, pretty simple upshot to the longer pin
11B to S - about 300 low ceiling slow L to R
12W to L - Big open 315 foot turnover
12W to S - same thing, just about 280
12B to L - Have some woods to go through, but pretty much the same thing. About 360. Roller works well
12 B To S - about 330, pretty much the same thing, just shorter
13W to L - 330 field, baskets sits off right. Roller works well.
13W to S - 330 field, basket sits behind a klump to the left
13B to L - around 450, basket to the right - have some kumps of trees to go through about 150 feet into the shot
13B to S - same as above, just pin on the left as mention before
14W - Starts in a gap, into a field, back into the woods - baskets sits off left - about 240
14B - starts in a field and plays over the short tee - about 300
15 Round 1 - White tee to Spring basket - about 330 hyzer - lots of rough on the left
15 Round 2 - Blue tee to Summer Basket - par 4. Tee shot hyzers about 280 to the short tee. Then its about 350 to the long pin - same shot as the white pad, just longer and around a huge tree (the spring pin is in beside the tree)
15 Round 3 - Blue tee to Fall Basket - same thing as above, except basket is off and down a hill to the right of the summer pin
15 round 4 - White tee to Winter basket - 270 - lots of of options, most play hyzer
16W - 230 straight - just gotta hit a gap and keep the disc straight the whole time
16B - 300 through a field into the woods. A big limb makes it a bit of a low ceiling. Gotta through straight about 280 and let it naturally hyzer to the pin.
17W - lots of options - about 190 feet. Most play a hyzer to a pin.
17B - through a gap and forces you down the hyzer lane - about 230
18W - straight forward and 250 feet. About a 40 foot gap to hit and then it goes into a field. Basket sits just shy of a wooded area leaving some tricky putts
18B - same idea, just the tee is offset to the left and makes you throw a hyzer through the gap instead of a straight shot - 280.
HBW - About 220, through a gap - hyzer shot to the practice basket
HBB - About 290 - different angle to the same gap. Have to throw something really stable and S it or pop something up.

Max and I went through the trailer last night and sorted out the merchandise. We have t-shirts, shirts, hats (3 types), visors, bags, bag straps, beanies, baskets and of course discs.
As far as disc, we have a wide selection of Innova disc in multiple plastics. Zone Driven was also nice enough to let us have a few of the 08 Champion Rocs (Rancho and San Marino) to sell at the DEPC.
I just hope we have enough merchandise. I also hope we have enough golfers that we can give this merchandise to or that want to buy some also.

FYI...
I just drove back from Charlotte so I know the roads do work and that it is possible for someone west of RDU to make it to Greenville by means of driving. I was figuring that some of the west staters thought they had to fly into here or that we did not have roads and they would be forced to use a Sherpa and pack mule.
Cindy's parents will be coming from northern Virginia today and once they make it here, that will confirm that it is also plausible for someone to come from north of the border.

We now have a host hotel for this event.
City Hotel & Bistro has decided that they wanted to offer the disc golfers a discounted room rate for the weekend. They rate will be $75/night plus taxes. The rooms all have microwaves, refrigerators, coffee makers, irons/ironing boards, and free hot buffet breakfast. Also this Friday they have Presence playing in the Bistro (the bar/lounge) and Saturday its Jupiter Jones and two guests out of every room get in free.
If this sounds like something you are interested in, All you have to ask for is the Greenville Disc Golf rate for this weekend and you will be set! The numbers to call to make reservations is 252-355-8300 or toll-free at 877-271-2616 or if anyone wants to call Jennifer Rice to make their reservations and her direct line is 252-317-1512. She is the person that contacted us about being a host hotel.
For more information about City Bistor & Hotel, check out City Hotel & Bistro web page. (http://www.cityhotelandbistro.com/)
That is all for now. Stay tuned for future updates.

Scotty has already informed me that I need not fear the deer, but the furry little felines. I plan on packing tuna just in case there is a run in with some of the locals--you know, as a sign of good will while I sprint the other direction.

There is not any water that comes into play (there is a river behind 17 that you would have to throw about 250 feet past the pin to get in).

One of the best weekends I've had in a long long time! Great golf, great people, good times and many, many great laughs! Thanks to the Myers for their hospitality, Scotty and Cindy for all there time and efforts!! The GVDG and the volunteers for the work they did! I just got home a few minutes ago and I have already told my wife that I am reserving the weekend for this tourney next year! Awesome job Greenville!
On a side note - Rob, next time, before reenacting the jump from your karaoke performance, please make sure the draw string on your shorts is tied, secure and your are facing the crowd! For the sake of all that is good in the world!!

It blows me away every time I play this course thinking of how its evolved over the years into in my eyes one of the best and fairest courses in this state. The fact that I threw a Roc on 8 down the left side of the fairway is amazing when I think back to the day we had 20 - 30 people working for about 5 hours to clear that hole. I'm throwing a shot in a place where stoves and bikes were found in the brush. Unreal.
Playing a tournament on an amazing course is typically enough to make a pretty good experience. Playing a well run tournament on an ok course is typically enough to make a pretty good experience. When these two things merge, you get an a great weekend of play. However, this was not a great experience b/c the word great does not cover this event. I don't think a word is in the dictionary for what this tournament is simply b/c the event is so far and beyond any other event in this area. I honestly will say that if USDGC was not in this region, I would have no doubt in my mind that this event is the best event in a 10 state region.
My hats off to Scotty and all the Faisons for this weekend. JJ and I were discussing our speeches on the way home and we both agreed that if were to say everything that needed to be said we would be talking for a very very long time.
Congrats to Jeb for his win, to all the other winners and everyone who played at or above their expectations.
Above expectations....seems to be the theme of the weekend.

While USDGC is unquestionably the premier major event in disc golf, I believe that this event is the premier B tier event in disc golf. This was a world class tournament. Anyone who did not attend, I truly feel sorry for you. I just can't say enough about Scotty, Cindy, and their Greenville crew. You guys have an incredible passion for this sport, and I am truly greatful for all you have done for this tournament. Thank you for everything guys!!!

Thanks again to the Faison's (all of them) and Cindy's Parents for everything this weekend. Thanks to Max for putting me up again. This event is so much fun and every time I go there are so many people that are doing things that I never see and things just get done and it is nice to just be able to play. I remember every round going man who was moving the Launch Pads between rounds and who was moving baskets? The water jugs were full every round CTP's on every hole every round. It is amazing how well an event can run when everybody helps out just a bit. I know stick and I were working on scores and Jason Snapp and Michael Toomes jumped in to help out a bit. I think even MTL came by to help us sort things out.
I am still at trying to figure out if I had more fun at the impromptu players party or if I had more fun in the playoff for the trophy for 3rd place. I got a few calls today from people telling me congrats on the win I was like that was for the 3rd place trophy. Still a lot of fun and it was awesome to have the gallery following us around. I felt like I was at USDGC with all the people watching us except I did not have a golf cart here.. ;) Thanks to a great start on hole 1 I think we all had fun at the playoff.
I am going to try to generate round ratings for all the rounds now based on everybody that was pre-registered for the event. I was able to determine all of the current ratings for those players with some help from stick and if all goes well I will let people know that potential round ratings are available now.

Scores with ratings (http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pOmFXxrr5Skqx5qLSqOXmdQ)
I have tried to calculate ratings based upon the current ratings of everybody that was pre-registered. Now these may change a bit as some people registered day of and I did not have their ratings. But entering them would likely not change ratings that much. Hopefully these are semi close to the official ratings.
Thanks Mike. Woohoo! I really hope these ratings are close because my -13 the last round would be my first 1000 rated round.

Yes it was an amazing tournament in many ways. Very solid teamwork by volunteers, Scotty, Cindy & GVDG that kept things rolling this weekend. Killer food between rounds both days. Sick round by Lil Wigg to tie course record from the blues & then the Jeb show from the whites to set a course record. WOW & more WOW!! This played like an A-Tier!!

Great photos. I'd be interested in purchasing several of them, but the digital image appears to be 25-35 dollars PER PHOTO depending on high or low res. That's a lot. I'd pay 35 for the set I want. That seems fair. I'm not interested much in old school paper prints

Guy's is everybody serious w/ this????? does anyone remember this entire web site being non functional for almost 3 weeks. TD's could not post scores they could not submit TD reports it was a miracle the PDGA was able to keep the message board functional and all this was going on when the deadline was approaching for submission for scores to be included for this update. do you guys seriously think a TD of the caliber of faison with a staff of Max, The Mike Norris and stick would let this happen if it was humanly possible to have submitted the TD report properly. get off the TD's backs and beaotch at the PDGA!!!
and for the DEPC to even be mentioned in the same sentence as the Sneaky Pete is almost shameful.

I hear ya BWD, and I would never be Offensive to anything east of 95, as you well know, and will say I'm sorry to any DEPC if I came across that way. I was being focious/sarcastic, and directing my anger towards the sneeky pete. Great tnmt to play, fun, but, we as players whom spend money on these reports. Deserve them. With the burlington crew, this is habitual. Want them to seek assistance if needed.
