Something seems amiss with the distance results....

Are ALL those numbers CORRECT??? in FEET???

If so, there were NUMEROUS World Records set, IF the "standards" for Distance Comp were met

Any insite??

yeah... its more for 'fun' as chuck explained somewhere else than for 'distance'. Noticed Jeremy Koling only threw 660 on the ski slope... you can tell he's not used to throwing down mountains cause I've seen him come close to throwing that far on flat ground.

oh well... im sure it was fun to do and fun for people to watch

Anybody know why Dawn Geist only has a score of OB, how far is that?

i think that means they did not land in the landing zone so no distance counted.

yikes, fix your formatting, Jeff :)

boo to the downhill format being the official competition :(. I was hoping that someone would finally find a measuring tape long enough to quantify one of Bratten's drives but these numbers don't mean much if there was a significant downhill slope. They should have held the official distance competition adhering to standards, then let folks throw down the slope for fun.

This was EXACTLY what we tried to pull off at the Green Mtn Open in VT last weekend. We had a downhill stretch of 1900 ft mowed nice and tight, 250 ft wide. Unfortunately the weather was not at all cooperative and we had to miniature-ize and throw inside  :( Not at all what I had I mind. These numbers look like a lot of fun was had by all. Who cares if its not "official"? FUN is good!

I think a lot of people care that it's not official. Especially those who expected to have a real chance at setting a record for their division.

I'm just saying that the slope shot is fun and all but why rob people of their chance at putting their mark in history? I think Paige could have set an under 18 girl's record, given the opportunity.

You don't have to be at World's to change history. I believe Wiggins Jr. set the record on a local soccer field with his Pops and an official or two. Video is on youtube somewhere.

Edit: CK's explanation:

Field events are being processed this morning for payouts and should be up late today. Worlds rarely does distance on open, level ground. It's really called "Long Drive" not distance. One reason is that finding a venue to handle true distance isn't easy and it's possible the wind won't cooperate from the right direction. Several of the top players at all age levels typically don't participate so they don't tweak something that affects their chances to win Worlds. So Long Drive is normally what is done at Worlds which typically measures throws that are more like golf shots than true distance 360 turnarounds on flat level ground.

Thanks for the info. I guess it does make sense in chuckie's explanation. I just wonder what the results would have been if they were on a more "level playing field" (pun intended). Not all players have a chance to practice throwing down a ski slope. As long as they promise to continue having fun, I'll let this one slide :D

Ski~slope or not, they were all still short of the record of 820'...(250m)

that's why I'm thinking flat land would have been better. the right throw on a ski slope is going to go a billion miles, but it's a specific type of throw. If you've never practiced that throw before... you're not going to get as much out of it as you could. Bratten threw 760-something and I could swear I've seen him do that on flat ground. Dunno if he could top the record in the same circumstances, but he can throw a disc farther than I can see :)

Do you know what the under 18 girls' record is?

Part of the conspiracy Josh, if it was formatted right, my name would be visible with something to do about the Worlds and "they" can't let that happen, :Dso I'll post the info here for everyone.

My only claim to fame for the 2008 Worlds (besides being in "E" pool) is I'm the United States Masters Long Drive Champion !!!
On Saturday I have the chance to take down the Kiwi and Canuck(a former Kiwi) to have the WORLD title!
