I know this has been discussed before and it's not all distance but I think its always a good topic for debate. There are a lot of new "maximum" distance drivers on the market. I want to know what everyones opinion is for what is the farthest flying disc out on the market today. Flat out distance in the most perfect conditions.

Whatever works for you. Me personally, I can throw Illusion QC's and Inferno's 400ft+, but cant even reach 400 with Destroyers and Forces, whereas I know several people who can crush Wraith's and Destroyers and flip over the discs I use.

Right... I know it definitely depends on what works for the individual. Me personally, I think the destroyer is flat out HUGE.... but I like to hear everyone else's opinions..... if each disc was thrown so that the max flight path was made which disc would land the distance... Obviously you can't make perfect conditions... but theoretically if you could....

For me, the esp-surge is the farthest flying discs. That or an X-avenger, but I can throw a light(165) old style pro beast pretty far(again for me) also.

I seem to be able to throw a destroyer further than anything. The lighter the further... I throw a 175g first run star. for a normal 400 ft drive. but ill throw a 170g champion destroyer 50-100ft further than a max weight one. And that is whithout changing anything from drive to drive. I also have a 145g dx destroyer that I'll throw in a tailwind and it'll go well over 500ft easy... Hope I helped.

Really, for me its between the Zephyr, the Ultra-Star, and the Sky-Styler...
In reality, I think Discraft should get their J-Star (small diameter juniors ultimate disc) approved by the PDGA and make a max weight version... Like the Sonic took the Zephyr out of my bag, that would probably take the Sonic out...

my 167 dx destroyer tested longer than the following discs on pure d:
168/163 star wraith
169 star destroyer
171 dx wraith
174 flx surge
that was the 8-disc-bag test last week.
*this review in no way means any other disc or manufacturer is superior to another. No one throws junk shots like me, so any disc that likes junkshots will work. :D

My farthest throws have come with the Diablo DT but to me it seems to be less forgiven and seemed like two similar throws could have very different results. If I want to throw almost as far and land closer to where I was aiming I like the wraith.

I took 30 discs out to the field today and threw them for about an hour. The farthest one each time was pretty consistently the same...148 DX destroyer (farthest) max weight monarchs (2nd) and a beat to crap 175 star destroyer (third) my beasts were coming in behind that.

Maybe they don't like junkshots... :D They way Mark throws he would probably turn those discs over too much if he was throwing hard (wingspan ~ 14'=torque).

Wizard, of course.
seriously though I have been all out bombing my eco excaliber over 500 without to much trouble. I can get a bit more d out of it than my star destroyer just because I can pummel it and not worry about it rolling over. parking 465 foot holes at the magnolia valley doubles last weekend in a headwind on a golf line.
I would give an honorable mention to the baby blue illusions cause I can bomb those as well, just a bit touchy for me right now (nose angle).
This question is all about how you throw and your power. It will be different for everyone.

Isn't that the truth! I'll even go further. What works for you one month, might not work the next ... all depends on how much you are throwing!
I've had a tough summer. Broken leg last winter, some good rounds, some not so good. Not enough time to play as much as usual ... I've had to step down to some discs that I don't throw when my form is better ... but I can still throw them just about as far because they require less power.

My beat up Pro Wraith (175 when new) is the only disc I can get close to 400' with on flat ground. That being said I generally go to the Orc for all of my distance needs as it holds straight for the entirety of its flight and i can throw it so consistently! I only lose about 30 feet by clubbing down so the consistency is worth it for me. (then another 30 feet for throwing my star teebirds)

169 Star Desstroyer is my distance king right now. In a round however I'll turn to a 12X Wraith (so predictable) to reach long holes. I've recently thrown a DX Destroyer over 550 as well as the two I just mentioned. XCalibers are solid for distance hyzers for me, as well as the Pro Destroyer.

sidearm-max weight destroyers, backhand-lite valks.,but you have to throw with hyzer and make it flip late. it flies with hyzer, then flat, then turnover then back to hyzer. it changes direction 3 or 4 times to max out distance.

PRO Destroyer, i won a distance contest with one, it bombed, they are super fast and lots of glide...which equals LONG.
have not thrown the dx, sounds cool but i like the distance and durability of the PRO, it last about 8mnths to a year in my bag before having to get a new one.

why do people like the star destroyer over the Pro.
and are you guys flipping over / up the eco XC when crankin on them, i would think the XC turns to stable to be big D.

I think people like the durability. Pro is fastest and holds up if you don't hit anything off the tee, but many people I suspect don't want to carry a D driver that could change flight characteristics drastically after one good hit. I think more people would throw the Champion Destroyer if it were in regular production b/c it flies like an XC with more carry. For me, the Star Destroyer is the squirreliest (more turn, more fade, doesn't like to hold flat). If you find a Star one that feels like a Pro (poppy dome, stiff rim), it will fly better than the others. However, in my experience they are most often gummy and flat.
The one guy I know who bombs echo XC's (listen2bob aka David E) throws WAY harder than me and just KILLS the thing on an anhyzer line. He gets over 500' out of it. I would love to see what GG or Bratten could do with one of those things.

anybody throwin the Z plastic tsunami's (DGA)?
they are an overstable high glide, fast disc, have not heard much about them.
dgdave
Aug 21 2008, 09:10 PM
i just picked up a couple sparkle tsunamis and Im really liking them.
They are like a slighly seasoned Pred. they are the original Predator mold, which ws less overstable. Think a Teebird that has a bit more LSS. Very nice discs. so are the Pro plastics. I just got one thats in ESP. very nice

I've been using them for what i use a Teebird for. Dead straight with hyzer finish, big sweping hyzers, S shots, work horse kinda shots. I get about the same D a I do with Teebirds. 380-400 max, maybe a bit more if I put it on a distance line.

Have you checked out the Rogue? I used to throw the pro orc for max d, but when they got a little beat became very nose angle sensitive. I would get a bombdrive, or a meow drive. The rogue has added a ton of consistency, especially on a hyzer flip line. I now throw about 80% with same or more d.

I was throwing all Discraft for most of the last 2 years and I was using the Tsunami (both pro and Z) for all my "teebird" shots. It is a great and underrated disc. After saying that...I have since went back to Teebirds. I found that the Tsumami not only has more LSS than the bird, but it is also less HSS when you really get on it or in the wind. All in all more of an S disc or a hyzer flip disc. The tsunami doesn't fly nearly as well or predictable on a flat release as the Teebird and has more movement in its line, especially in the wind. I still throw Predators and prefer a beat one to a Tsunami anyway (much more Teebird like). But if I had to throw all D I would have Tsunamis in the bag, but flippier ones flying like TLs. It beats the crap out of the Avenger imo.

Anyway, tsunami is definitely not worth mention when it comes to the subject line of this thread. I would call it a fast fairway driver.
