I just don't like going to three events in a row and getting the " it will be the next one" and then it isn't there but will be at the next one.

Exactly! So why does everyone have to guess which event has skins? Should have done it at Ingleside (I bet Mando agrees). :D:p

I bet you never heard from Mike that any other event was for sure going to be the skins but rather that it might. That isn't bait and switch, that is marketing. Bait and switch is a form of fraud in which the party putting forth the fraud lures in customers by advertising a product or service at an unprofitably low price, then reveals to potential customers that the advertised good is not available but that a substitute is.

I wouldn't know because the the 3 events I played didn't happen to have a skins match.

I would like to actually know if the event will or will not have skins a few weeks in advance like you are now doing, This allows players to plan on making the trip down and also covers any speculation the skins match event was picked after looking at who was signed up.

1st and last? Whichever one has the lowest rated MPO group, lowest rated MPO group, local advantage, best course, worst course? Or just show up and hope you are polatying the right one?

Having 2 out of 5 is fine as long as it is know a few weeks in advance of the tournament that there will be skins at the event. Basically you can still pick and choose but give us a clue or something.

You have given this more thought than I spent on it all year! With all this discussion, probably wont be the 1st and last qualifiers next year....Has nothing to do with the weakest field or easiest course....Next year you will be informed at the players meeting just like this year, no sooner, unless it is an obvious one like Gonzales this year, only because it is the only event left.
I hear what you are saying, but I dont agree...It is done for marketing reasons only!
If it was up to me, I wouldnt post a players list prior to the event. Guess I dont understand the strategy of some golfers that decide what tournaments they are going to based on what the others golfers in their division are doing and where they are playing.
I can see most want to see a good long list of quality guys, but does it keep some people at home because they think they cant beat the field.
I guess it will all be clearer to me when I go pro (master) in 8/09. :D

Well for what it is worth the top four open finishers at Third Coast Challenge was the strongest of the fields and the first of the skins matches. Also the one event Matt missed. The average rating of the top four finishers were Third Coast Challenge=1002.25 South Texas Shootout=997.25 San Antonio Bud Open=995.75 Shule School=977.75. I think any theory of Mike being one to favor locals or a weaker field can be shot out of the water. I would almost bet that the average rating in Gonzales will be the second highest of the five. And no local pros exist there.

Yeah but if he would have had skins at Ingleside some people may have said that! I am only giving suggestions on how to avoid any unecessary speculation and I personally would like to know which event has skins so I can plan on at least making those two.

Of course Gonzo will have higher rated players because they KNOW skins will be there. Sorry for missing the 1st event but there was another B-tier an hour from where I live.

Aug 01 2008, 02:59 PM
I personally see what you are saying but if we announced it in advanced we would loose players at the qualifiers with out skins. Maybe Mike could randomize it early and put it in sealed envelopes to so there is no way anyone knows if it will be a skins event prior.

the_kid
Aug 01 2008, 03:16 PM
I get that it makes people come hoping it will be a skins event but it also can cause people to wonder why it was at a certain event Vs another. I heard it was probably going to be at Ingleside and the 1st thing I thought was how nice it was for both skins matches to be in CC and why they didn't have one somewhere else so I guess I am happy with GONZO.

As Vinnie said there are people who want to know things in advance prior to driving out.

Not to speak for 3rd Coasters but when I asked the same question, as long as masters and open all play the same layout they'll take the top 4 pro (including masters) scores plus top AM score.

Will there be a doubles round on Friday?

Emily_L
Aug 19 2008, 04:24 PM
You should check on that cause Des wouldn't have been able to play in the skins at West Guth. Sometimes top four pro scores means only MPO and doesn't inlcude MPM or FPO...or the other pro divisions for that matter.

The five participants in the skins match will be the top four pro scores and the top amateur score...If I won in Corpus at the 1st skins match I was going to relinquish my skins spot to Des rather than play, but that didnt happen...so yes, old geezers are eligible and everyone plays from the same boxes..

Yo Smiles you practice too much!

Shoot, I need to if I'm going to keep up with you Worlds qualifiers...

The course isn't in as good of condition as it was in March. The lower areas of the back 9 are a swamp. I got the worst mosquito attack I've ever had in Texas so be sure to bring some DEET or a hippie alternative. Also, the grass is getting pretty long throughout the course, but not to the point of eating up discs or messing up the footing - just don't count on big skips or long rollers.

Even with those minor downsides, its still a great course and I'm really looking forward to playing it again this weekend.

See ya'll there!

Sorry I must have been thinking of Beeville where Mitchell and I set up the basket at the start because (again paraphrasing) "Locals dropped the ball".

Should I go ahead and bring my POS basket Mike? You are more than welcome to it. I even added inner chains. Or should Seth Lawhead bring a good one? You should call him. By the way have I told you lately that you annoy me?
