TitleDISC is proud to announce the Inaugural Paschall Park Open on October 26th!

Mesquite has recently installed a brand-new course at Paschall Park. The City recently held a grand-opening for the park and they're now ready to host a PDGA-sanctioned tournament! I'm thrilled to be involved in this course's first event and it will be a big one. We already have sponsors lining up to take part in making this event a success for everyone involved.

This is all going to happen the weekend of October 25-26 and will mirror the format we used in Rockwall. Saturday (10/25) will be flex start doubles, all day long. Bring your partner, play as many times as you like, and enjoy a day of warmup golf on this new course. Sunday (10/26) will be the main event - a two-round PDGA-sanctioned C-Tier with 100 spots available. That's a maximum of 5 players per card on the 18 permanent holes plus three temporary holes. 5 spots are being withheld to allow balancing of cards within divisions. If the tournament fills, we will start a waiting list and open the other 5 spots to divisions with spots still available. The Rockwall event filled two weeks in advance, so don't procrastinate on this one. Registration will be open by August 1st.

Sponsorship money will be added to the Open field, the Advanced field, and the Ace Pot!

We will have lunch available at the course and if we get enough sponsorship, I'll make it a part of the player's package just like I did at Rockwall. Tournament-stamped discs will be available including CFR discs. We will have tournament t-shirts and a Ring of Fire.

Sponsorship packages will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

$100 - Tee-sign sponsorships
will be taken through Oct. 23rd or until all holes are spoken for. sponsor's logo will be featured on one tee-sign and on the website.

$150 - T-shirt sponsorships
will be taken until October 11th and will include tee-signs. Sponsor's logo will also be featured on the back of the tournament t-shirt.

$250 - Mini disc sponsorships
will be taken until Oct. 3rd and will include tee-sign and t-shirt sponsorships. Sponsor's logo will also be featured on 100 mini discs, included as part of the player's packages.

The title sponsorship is not currently available, but if you are interested please contact me and we'll discuss. It will be a minimum of $500 and will include a ton of exposure for the sponsor... if we decide to offer it :)

10 spots will be reserved for MPO, and MA3 will be limited to 25 spots. The rest of the spots will be first-come, first-served with a minimum of 3 to form a division. The *only exception* to that rule will be the Advanced Ladies division which will only require 1.

Come be a part of this great new course's first event!

I updated my original post to include the date for this event - October 26th. Yes, that's a 1-day on Sunday with doubles on Saturday!

The City of Mesquite is really getting behind the sport. They're going to be a big part of this tournament and part of each entry fee will be used for further course improvement or enhancements. We hope to raise enough sponsorship money so that the nominal fee per player is covered and not removed from payout!

More information will be posted as it becomes available but feel free to contact me with sponsorship questions any time between now and the deadline dates listed above.

See y'all in Mesquite!

Update - This tournament is now officially titled "The Mesquite Open". This gives us the flexibility to use other courses next year but we're sticking to the game plan for this year. Registration will be available soon along with CFR prices and more sponsorship information.

Online Pre-Registration for the Mesquite Open is now available via http://www.TitleDISC.com/

There will be plenty of great TitleDISC merchandise available at the Mesquite Open, as well as some cool tournament-stamped discs. I'll post the tournament stamp once I get it back from the artist. CFR disc pre-sales are available with your registration too. There will be a maximum of two per person until the day of the event and only 50 will ever be made with this stamp. I will order them as soon as I have the logo ready.

Get signed up soon! This course sees 100+ casual players on any given weekend, it won't take long to fill the 100 available spots in this tournament.

What divisions will be playing the long tees? Are there any work days to help fix some of the problems with the current layout (teepads located in the fairway, teepads facing wrong direction). It's a great course and I'm suretyis will be a great tourney. Mesquite seems to be jumping on the disc golf scene with enthusiasm. I wish more cities were this supportive.

The teepad and pin problem corrections have been laid out. There are plans for at least one work day. It will be posted on the kiosk at the course (which should be moving closer to the first tee), and I will post the info here. Most of the clearing will be on holes 10 and 12. Three temp holes were laid out after crossing the bridge and before playing hole 17.

I'm still working with Gary, trying to make tee decisions. My preference is that we have Short, Long, and Champ tees but I'm not yet sure who will get to play what. I want people to enjoy the course and feel challenged. To accomplish that I need to tailor the course as much as possible to the basic skill level ranges. There are only a few Championship tees out there, so I'm thinking that this might work (but is subject to change):

Round 1
Pro & Adv Champ/Long Tees
Int & Rec Long tees

Round 2
All divisions Short Tees

I'm also a firm believer that Pro and Adv divisions are designed for the top skill level players. MPO, MPM, MA1 and MM1 will all play the same tees. After the ratings break change, the MA2 division has seen quite a bump in skill level, so I'd normally put them on the Long tees, and the Rec / Novice divisions on the Short tees... but in this case I don't think that one round from the Longs is a bad thing for Rec and Novice. The Long tees at Paschall aren't so difficult that the Rec divisions will back up too much.

This is my initial idea and is subject to change. Even once I make the final announcement, I also reserve the right to change the tee assignments based on an unbalanced field or course conditions. I'll make every effort to stick to the plan but sometimes the entire tournament suffers if you don't tune things for flow. I expect this to be a very full tournament and I want everyone to have fun :).

Please feel free to post any comments or concerns. I'll be more than happy to take input from players to help improve the Mesquite Open experience!

Willy C. and I have played the short and long tees and enjoyed each round alot. The shorts were pretty much a birdie shoot which was fun and the longs were very challenging in some places with some very memorable holes that will definately make an impression on you.
All in all it is one of the nicest parks around and the course was alot of fun. Looking forward to the tourny.

Leake CPA
Dallas Disc Golf
Millenium Discs
Team DiscQualified

I have been having computer problems lately, but I am back up and running now, so the tournament website will be forthcoming :).

Thanks again to all the sponsors who have already given their time and money to this event. CFR discs are getting ordered as soon as I can get the logo together (unless someone can sponsor that part for me - I'm no artist!)

Just moved up to Paris, TX from Austin,TX so Dallas is the nearest place to go for tournaments. Believe it or not Paris does have it's own 15 hole course. I already signed up for the tournament and can't wait to test out the new course.I did have a few questions for clarification:

QUESTIONS:
The Sunday main event will be 2 rounds of 21 holes each round, correct? Read 18 permanent and 3 temporary.

Have there been any offical tee rules made. What divisions are playing what tees. I read you were thinking about everyone playing one game of long and one game on shorts.

Also heard that some tee placements are in the path of many shots. Who ever is the TD make sure you call out these holes during the player meeting so we can all remeber to watch our heads.

----------------------------------------

Can't wait to see you all there. Now if this darn rain would ever stop I could go practice.

baldguy
Sep 15 2008, 12:39 AM
I'm going to do my best to keep everyone out of the line of fire. In the past, I've used mandos to force lines that avoid other teepads. If I need to do that at Paschall, then I will. I'll also be sure to let everyone know if any tees *are* still in the way of other shots.

As far as tee assignments, I'm pretty set on the configuration posted above, but as more entries come in I may need to change them a little bit. The most important thing is that everyone have fun on the course and get done in a reasonable timeframe. As this tournament will be right at the end of Daylight Saving Time, time will be a factor. I don't want anyone finishing in the dark on Sunday.

Sponsorship update: I have the mini-disc sponsorship money now, so that spot is taken. I also have 7 teesigns spoken for with several others in the works. That means only 14 are still available. If you want your company or club or just yourself to be featured on a tournament teesign you should get that info to me ASAP. There will be a lot of golfers playing this event and therefore a lot of exposure for the sponsors.

Don O'Connell doesn't know it yet but I've decided to ask for his help with the tournament logo. Don does great work and I know he'll put together another great one for this event. Don - I'll send you an email soon. Everyone else, stay tuned for a tournament logo update :). CFRs should be in hand a couple weeks before the tournament, so pre-order today!

oh, one more update that I forgot - To help out Bryan James and the Mr Jim's Carrollton Open, I purchased a stack of discraft plastic from him, all with the MJCO stamp. This will account for the Discraft plastic used in payout for the Mesquite Open. The rest will be Millennium and Innova merchandise, custom-stamped with the Mesquite Open stamp and TitleDISC stamps. Everyone will get an Innova mini with the Team Discqualified logo on it! Everyone who registers by Oct. 15th will also get a tournament t-shirt. The PDGA doesn't require a player's pack for C-tiers, but I think they're important :)

Let's get a few more sponsorships in for this one! Just over a month away, the Mesquite Open will be here before we know it :)

I'm placing an order for custom-stamped discs soon. We will at least have some Innova discs with the custom stamp, probably also some Millennium. We will also have some sweet TitleDISC Open-stamped discs left for you to choose from along with TitleDISC printed Dry-Fit polos and tees, if any are left, plus some TitleDISC cotton tees (hopefully long-sleeve too). The Discraft section of the payout will have MJCO stamps. I'm hoping to have the Alex Clark Memorial CFR discs ready by then, so that they'll be available (cash only) to those who want to help support that event.

Right now it's looking like the CFR discs will be Glow TL and Glow FL. If I can work it out, I might have one more mold in the mix... we'll see :). I do have a few CFR Glow Starfires, CFR CH. Destroyers, CFR Glow Sidewinders and one CFR Gator (166) left from previous tournaments that I will sell to help raise money for this event. All CFR discs are $25 each or $45 for two, cash only. All proceeds from these discs go into tournaments!

also keep in mind that some baskets are in the process of being moved to improve flow. There was some miscommunication between the course designers and the crew who installed it, so it isn't laid out exactly as planned right now. Many of those problems will be fixed before the tournament :).

I know we are more than a month away from the tournament but I still only show 10 players igned up. When do people normally sign up? Early or a few days before? Hope you have a good turn out as this is one a few nice course within a 1.5hr drive from me.

baldguy
Sep 20 2008, 11:24 PM
There will be a god turnout, I assure you that :). I wouldn't wait to sign up. I expect this to fill at least a week in advance, if not two. We ran a tournament in Rockwall in June that filled two weeks in advance. 75% of that was in about 5 days! Lots of people waited too long to sign up for that one and unfortunately missed out. The best way to secure your spot is to sign up as soon as you can. I will start closing divisions as they get full. I will cap Rec, Intermediate, and Advanced at 25 players each. I will also guarantee 10 spots for Open.

Just under a month to go, and registrations are starting to come in. 13 paid for plus another 4 or so verbally committed. And we're just getting started :)

I ordered the tournament-stamped discs today. For CFRs, we will have 25 Champion Glow Teebirds and 25 Champion Cros. These are CFR-only discs, so don't forget to grab yours when you register online. Aside from CFR, we will have the two hottest new Innova discs - the Champion Boss and Champion Monarch, both stamped with the cool Mesquite Open stamp. Star Roadrunners, Star XCalibers, Star Valkyries, and Glo Ontario Rocs will round out the tournament-stamped discs.

Other Innova and Millennium discs will be available in stock form, plus plenty of Discraft with the TitleDISC/MJCO stamp. Some dry-fit polo and teeshirts will also be available, if they survive until the tournament :).

VERY LITTLE TIME is left to get your company's name on the tournament teeshirt. I will be placing the teeshirt order in two weeks, so do not delay! call me at 214-868-2996 or email at jdann@discgolfportal.com if you would like to be a part of sponsoring Mesquite's first big disc golf event!

two weeks left!

22 players already pre-registered for this event. I will be out at the course this morning to post / hand out some flyers. I will have some gear with me so if you need a disc or two, hit me up.

The t-shirt spots are secured now but you can still get your name or logo on a teesign. Let me know soon!

NOTE: absolutely zero registration will be taken the morning of the event. Daylight will be a factor, and I won't let last-minute signups delay us in the least. Online registration is available until the Friday night before, and if any spots are left, I will take registration in person on Saturday during the doubles competition. You may also mail in registration, but it must arrive at my house by the Friday before the tournament, so it must be mailed in the next week:

TitleDISC
3000 Blake St.

Do not show up Sunday morning, expecting to get in. I hate to turn people away, but those who sign up on time deserve to get started on time.

update: 32 players registered! weather reports are calling for great weather.

Also, remember that Saturday is BYOP flex-start doubles. Start any time from 8:30am through 5:00pm. Play as many times as you can fit in. Back in June, we had a team from McKinney play at least 3 times! We'll be there all day selling discs, filling any remaining registration spots, and running the doubles event.

Teesign sponsorships are still available for a few more days but this is the LAST CALL for t-shirt sponsors. $150 gets your company logo on the back of the shirt AND on teesigns for two holes. For most things I can take the $150 in merchandise or gift certificates, but I reserve the right to decline merch if it isn't appropriate. Most things are but I've had some strange offers in the past :).

I'm sending out the t-shirt order by Thursday at the latest, so get your sponsorship money and logos to me ASAP!

Consider it done, sir.

I have decided to extend the number of MA3 spots available to 30 instead of 25 given that currently, 17 of the 37 entries we have received are for MA3. Still, that means there are only 13 spots left for MA3! Entries are coming in quicker now. I think we'll fill a few days before doubles. Where all you pro's at? I am holding 10 spots for MPO, but even those spots won't be sold on Sunday.

Discs and t-shirts will be in next week and will be for sale all weekend during the Saturday Doubles and Sunday Singles events. Any leftovers will be available at the Alex Clark Memorial.

I will guarantee $300 added cash to the Pro divisions, $500 if we get 10 people signed up in Open. If we get no Open players, I'll just give it all to the Masters and GMs :)

baldguy
Oct 17 2008, 02:16 PM
we're half full now. That means registration has more than doubled in the past week. If it doubles again over the next week... the tournament will be full! I've said it many times... but don't wait to register. I will not take any registrations the day of the tournament, even if spots are left. At this rate that won't matter, though because we'll be full.

Reminder: online registration ends early Saturday morning, at which point we will be heading to the course to run doubles and take registrations in person for any remaining spots.

Thanks to Mesquite Sports Center for taking care of the t-shirts. They're not exactly a sponsor but they have been a huge help so far. Check them out at www.mesquitesports.com (http://www.mesquitesports.com) for your sporting goods needs.

This is shaping up to be quite an event! See you all in just over a week :)

62 players registered now, and MA3 - Recreational is now FULL. Still spots left in the other divisions... 10 spots held for MPO, but that offer expires with online registration. If any of those 10 are still available on Saturday, I will sell them on a first-come-first-served basis to those who show up in person.

There is still a week left before this event, and only 28 spots available. we sold more than 28 spots in the last 7 days. We're on pace to fill within the next few days.

Millennium discs are in! I have lots of awesome Millennium plastic available this weekend, including the extremely popular JLS, Orion (LF and LS), MS, and Omega. I have all types of plastic in all molds. Even a couple of sweet Wi-Dye discs that I think I will reserve for CTP prizes :)

70 players!!

only 30 spots left, with 8 of those reserved for MPO.

Since I have had many questions about this, let me post it here for everyone (or at least a lot of people) to read: Saturday doubles is open to anyone. You do not have to be registered for Sunday in order to play on Saturday. There will be 4 divisions for doubles: Open Pro, Advanced Am, Intermediate Am, and Ladies Am. Open costs $30 per team and all Am divisions cost $20 per team. Pro payout will be in cash, Am payouts will be in merchandise. You may play more than once, with the same partner or different ones, and in any division(s) that your rating allows. You may cash more than once if you play more than once.

I will have lots of extras on Sunday, including CTPs for each division and a Ring of Fire after round 2 with cool prizes for everyone! All players, even Pro players, will receive a sponsored mini marker. All Am players will receive a free tournament t-shirt (extras will be available to Pro players, as well). Pros will get added cash to their divisions.

I'm working on a few more bonuses for you guys, too... but you'll have to be there on Sunday to find out what they are :)

wow. I seem to be the only person posting about this tournament but people are certainly reading the posts :)

82 players registered, with 5 in MPO. That means 18 overall spots remaining, with 5 of them reserved for MPO. Because this event is expected to fill before Saturday, here are the waiting list rules:

All waiting list submissions must be received by email, by phone, or in person. They must include the player's name and division. I will record players on the waiting list as submissions come in. If a player drops out before the day of the event, I will open their spot to the next person on the waiting list with consideration given to pool balancing. There are only two pools and everyone is playing the same course, so not much balancing should be necessary.

Innova discs will be in-hand tomorrow! I will have the CFR discs with me at Lake Park in Lewisville tomorrow afternoon if anyone would like to stop by and pick one up. I will also have them at Greenbelt in Carrollton on Thursday night for some smack talk doubles if anyone would like to join in :)

one point of clarification: I originally stated that all players who registered by Oct. 15th would get a free tournament t-shirt. This is true, however I later stated that "all Am players" would be getting the free shirt. that is not the case. All players, Am or Pro, who registered on or before 10/15/2008 will receive a t-shirt in their players packs. That's about 40 players!

Thanks to those who registered early! The remainder of the tournament t-shirts will be available for sale this weekend. You may check in on Saturday during doubles or Sunday morning before the players' meeting to receive your player pack.

yeah I have no idea what they limited the message number to. it used to be 500... now it's lower than 400. I've got too many messages I want to keep and no way to archive them :(

There is exactly 1 spot left. Kitner, you'd better sign up :)

This tournament is officially full! I have a few on the waiting list now and if I get any dropouts, I will contact those people in order.

Thanks for pre-registering, everyone! this tournament will be much smoother because of it :)

See you all this weekend!

Josh,

Tried to PM you, but as you know, your box is full. Please e-mail me or call. I can't use the TXOKDG e-mail. somethings up with it, but the tglowry@jdgf.org is working.

Thanks

I don't have a double partner but will be driving in for the weekend. Hope I can still practice a round on Saturday. If anyone is needing a partner I should be at the course around 12-2.

baldguy

come on out. you are welcome to practice, but I do ask that anyone not playing doubles keep their groups as small as possible - no more than 3-4 people so that the doubles tournament isn't slowed down too badly.

I have heard from a few other people that they will be looking for a pickup team for doubles. you might just find someone to play with

Grats again, team T&A :D

Deidre and I had a great time putting this thing on for everyone this weekend. It was hectic at times but it was all worth it. I'm glad everyone had such a great time. How I love my DG family :)

I'll admit that I crashed out pretty early last night so scores did not get posted but they will today.

Thanks for posting the scores Josh!! Thanks for running the turney and spending your time messing with all this stuff.

Where can we see the round ratings on the last two turneys? No biggie but just curious. PDGA is Uber cluster F'ed on the site change.

baldguy
Oct 29 2008, 03:46 PM
the ratings can't really be calculated until I get into the TD admin side of the site again... and the PDGA has been less than responsive on that front. I'll be calling them today. Here's a full scores list, in PDF format:

if I could post the estimated ratings, I would. The PDGA hasn't sent me the password to do so, nor have they returned my phonecalls regarding this issue... we'll see.
