Just curious- how does everybody putt, and do you prefer light or heavy putters with that style? I pitch putt and seem to putt better with a buzzz, which is about 10-11g heavier than my aviars. I'm wondering if I should just try a heavier putter.

I'm betting there will be very few votes for light weight putters, especially from PDGA members.
Take the poll to a club message board and you may have a better spread.
Ive seen competitive tourney players not take free 170 gram putters and throw them back in a box like they were covered in poison IVY.

I feel there are a lot more putting techniques than pitch and spin. Flat, Hyzer and reverse come to mind.
Drop putting, the Rifleman ( shooting from the hip)
You can add Flick or throw to the spin putt category.
Straddle, 3/4 straddle or both feet in a perpendicular line with the basket
When I teach a new player to putt, it's usually 3/4 straddle pushing off with the left foot, throw or flick nose up hyzer from a cocked wrist creating a fair amount of spin, aiming a bit above the target, allowing for the disc to fall and fade a little left.
this way gives the most chance of hitting chains and or falling into the basket..
Ok,,,, I know no one asked but I just thought the poll could
use more selections!

Level ground - use max weight (175g) Classic Roc out to about 30 ft with lob putt. For uphill and farther out, use 170g version with lob putt.

Non jump putt - I Straddle putt a 170 Wizard with enough spin to keep it from fluttering

Jump Putt - Straddle Putt a 168 beat wizard that has a decent amount of spin on it.

No one believes me but a 170 putter preforms just as well as a max weight up to and in moderate wind.

Max weight Champ or Star Classic Roc with a touch of anny. I'm more of a spin putter now, but this wasn't always the case. Back in the amateur days I used an aviar and was a bit of a lob putter - I used a 170 aviar for a long time.

Max Weight black proto wizards (medium) for headwinds or hyzer putting around trees
86 Softies for every putt within 100, i also use these for jump putts
I also carry a (medium) magic for push putts and turbos

I like to poll idea, with the inclusion of the phrase, if you were in the middle of a field, on a calm day, x feet from the basket, on level ground, would you prefer to.......... I play in the woods alot, so I need to practice pretty much any putt you can imagine. As for weight, I recently switched from 174 Pro Rhynos to 169 Soft Challengers. For me, the flight is close to the same, with less effort required to cover the same amount of ground. I like to spin putt when possible, but I flick and lob and anny and turbo when that is my best option. For flick putting and long annys, a 170 Omega SS is preferred. I started putting with DX Stingrays a long time ago, then Rocs both Rancho and Classic, then Rhynos. The only solid rule I can discern about putting is that you would be hard put to practice enough. I straddle putt with a flat release slightly nose up with a medium amount of spin. I use a stiff soft Challenger that is a gram or 2 off max weight. Max weight putters don't spin as well for me. My putt comes straight out of my hand and should lose spin/fade as it is hitting the chains.

I think he means stiff in flex and soft on the surface, or possible a firm rim but flexible flight plate.
Either way I get where he is coming from.

Discraft is starting to produce similar runs of flex and surface grips on the challengers as we do in our 3 Putters so I think the following article will apply to their putters as well.

My putting improved greatly after switching from a 175g Glow Aviar to a 168 DX Aviar, I do not miss many putts low anymore. I still prefer the Glow Aviar for jump putts since it does not flex as I throw it.

i use 3 different aviars. i have 2 KC11X (the best disc ever made) and 1 KC12X my 11X's are both 172 G. and my 12X is 175. i use my oldest 11X for a spin or straight line drive shot. i put alot of spin on it. and throw a lil higher then the mid section of the pole. just so it has time to drop as it slows. after about 40 feet or so. but anythign outside of 50 to 60 feet im going to a heavier 12X just so it can fly more. but its all liner putts.
