When
September 13, 2008 - 9:30 AM
Format
Two rounds of 18 holes, one throw per hole per player.
Course layout
Holes are generally between 100 and 250 feet (55 to 75 meters).
Entry fee
$25
Player package
Two identical Discraft discs, plus a SuperColor mini and a Discraft hat. A $55 value! (most of the time the discs are prototype discs never seen before the event ;))
Rules of play
Players are required to use the player package discs, and only these discs. If a disc is lost, the player has the option of using the second disc from the package. Only one throw per player per hole. Each player will have their own scorecard and mark "A" for aces and "M" for holes on which they hit metal.
After all players in the group have thrown, discs are picked up and the group moves directly to the next tee. Players keep their scorecards for round two, using the next line on the card to record the round.
The player with the most aces after 36 holes is declared the winner. In case of ties, the number of metal hits is used as a tie breaker. If a tie persists, a closest to the pin contest is then used to determine the event winner.
Prize package
Grand prize for each event is a Discraft merchandise package, including a bag and ten premium discs. An optional cash side pot for those who wish to participate, which is divided proportionally among the number of aces and/or metal hits.
To sign up

This just in from Discraft ...
2008 Ace Race Prototype Disc
It's a zippy, small-diameter midrange. Slightly overstable with great glide... think Buzzz Junior. Will hold a line in a moderate headwind, but isn't crazy overstable or too tough to handle at slow speeds or in calm conditions.
Everyone competing in the 2008 Ace Race will receive two of these new Discraft prototypes in their player's package. Have fun... it's going to be a riot!

Okay, this is strange,
When I clicked the link above last night, I was sent to a youtube vid of a forehand flick out over a creek and an ace. THIS was the foot fault, it is called "Goldie gets an Ace at the Sucker River"
This morning I click on the link and I am sent to the youtube vid called "The Ace". Nice down hill run and a great ace.
I think the one that you are talking about is a kid throwing through some trees. This was the video from youtube that the link sent me to after I closed my browser and reopened it. It is called "Disc golf unbelievable ACE". The whole discussion is about how fake it is.
Really weird to get three diferent vid links from the same url link.

I am hoping to be back up and running. I hope to get everything that needs to be done, family wise, completed this next week while I am back in Abilene. I have to get it all done before school starts. After that I will be able to get back on the course.
I have played a total of 7 holes since the Abilene Wild Hair tournament in June. I am going into withdrawal.

HOW TO PLAY WOLF
Skin Amount Per Player: $0.25
Wolf is a variation of doubles and skins, (and kind of like Australian doubles) combined together.
Playing Order & Number of Holes Played
To start determine a tee-off order for all 7 of you. Do this by conducting a CTP. The order established for teeing off WILL NOT CHANGE. Instead of changing the tee order, honors is rotated. Player1 tees off first on the first hole, then Player2, Player3, Player4, Player5, Player6, and finally Player7 tee off in that order. On the second hole, Player2 tees off first, then Players3, Player4, Player5, Player6, Player7, and Player1 all tee off (in that order). On the third hold, Player three tees off first, then Players4, Player5, Player6, Player7, Player1, and finally Player2 all tee off (in that order). You get the idea. On the eighth hole, Player1 has honors again. Do not limit a game of wolf to 18 holes, pick out three extra holes and play a round of 21 holes, that way everybody gets to tee off first 3 times equally. (3 times 7 equals 21 for all you mathematicians.)
How to Play
After the first player tees off, he has two options. He calls "Wolf" or he calls "Shopping." If he is shopping, that means he is looking for a partner on this hole. He watches the second player tee. After the second player's shot comes to rest, the first player has the option of choosing that player as his doubles partner for this hole, or to continue shopping and watching the next drive. You get to watch the shot before you decide whether you want that player as your partner or not! Pretty cool! The player MUST announce whether or not he wants that shot as his partner BEFORE the next player drives (the next player should wait for him to decide). Once the first player has chosen a partner it is then the two of them playing best shot against the other five players in the group for this hole (on the next hole, the player teeing off first gets to have these choices all over again). The first player's team gets to choose the best out of their TWO drives, and take one putt each from that lie. The other team gets to choose the best of their five drives and take one putt each from that lie. It is two players against five players. The advantage normally goes to the two player team because the first player has had the opportunity to hand pick one of the drives. If the first player passes on everybody's drive, he automatically gets paired up with the last player on the tee (because he needs a partner, and at this point nobody else is left).
How to Win a Hole
Whichever team wins a hole, based on lowest score, all players on that team get 1 skin each from the losing team players.
If there is 1 skin up for grabs
If the five member team wins a hole, all five members on that team receive $0.25 from each of the two losing players.
If the two member team wins a hole, both members on that team receive $0.25 from each of the five losing players.
If the hole is tied or halved, the skins are carried over to the next hole.
If there are 2 skins up for grabs
If the five member team wins a hole, all five members on that team receive $0.50 (2 skins) from each of the two losing players.
If the two member team wins a hole, both members on that team receive $0.50 (2 skins) from each of the five losing players.
If the hole is tied or halved, the skins are carried over to the next hole.
If there are 3 skins up for grabs
If the five member team wins a hole, all five members on that team receive $0.75 (3 skins) from each of the two losing players.
If the two member team wins a hole, both members on that team receive $0.75 (3 skins) from each of the five losing players.
If the hole is tied or halved, the skins are carried over to the next hole.
Etc. Etc. Etc.
Settle all monies after each hole is played except where there is a tie and skins are carried to the next hole.
At the end of 21 holes, any skins still left hanging are award as a pre-determined CTP. The player that is closest gets the number of skins up for grabs from all 6 of the players he bested in the CTP. For example if 3 skins are carried over after the last hole, the winner of the CTP gets 3 skins ($0.75) from each of the 6 players he just bested in the CTP. The game is over after 21 holes, no sudden death (because it gives an advantage to whoever is teeing first, and not everybody will get the chance to tee off first in a sudden-death situation.)
The Wolf
The game is fun just like that, with playing two against five. But there is a very big rule we have not gone over yet that really brings this game alive. The Wolf. After the first player tees off he has the option of calling "Wolf" instead of "Shopping." This is where it gets really fun for those who have the intestinal fortitude. If a player calls "Wolf" that means that he is using his drive and does not want a partner. He plays the hole as a singles player. That means it is him against the other six players. He is the lone wolf. The other six players are all one team. They get to choose the best drive from all six of their drives and then they all get the chance to putt from the lie they choose. What's the really big catch? SKIN AMOUNTS DOUBLE IN A WOLF SITUATION. So, if a player calls "Wolf" and there are three skins on the line, if he wins the hole he gets six skins ($1.50) from each of the six losing players. If he loses the hole, the other six players get credit for six skins ($1.50) each from the losing player. If the hole ends in a tie, only the original three carry over.

Better plan on bringing some rain gear. Things are looking like they might get a little dicey on Saturday. I've been getting some questions about a back up plan. Some of you are concerend about the weather. Here's the plan as it stands today ...
As long as the weather doesn't endanger anyone and the course is playable we'll play rain or shine. Bring your golf umbrellas and rain gear. The high temp is only forcasted for 80, so a rain jacket should be doable. Bring towels. Bring refreshments, that will definately make things fun . Bring a change of shoes for after the round.
If things get too dicey or the course is unplayable, we'll have to postopne the event. If that happens I'll make a decision about when at the tourney after consulting with the players. However, plan on playing in the rain. It will be fun regardless :D

Good news people. The latest track has Ike moving a little further north than yesterday. We may not get the eye going through SA but just the west edge. Current estimates call for rain showers to begin in San Antonio at around 4:00 AM - 6:00 AM that day with windy conditions persisting through out the day.
JerryChesterson
Sep 11 2008, 11:21 AM
Even better news, the track keeps changing hourly, but current estimates put San Antonio out of harms way with only a 40% chance of rain from 3:00 AM to 8:00AM. The chance of rain then goes down to 20% as the storm is now projected to make landfall in Galveston and not Corpus. That means if we are effected we'll be on the west side of the storm which is the weakest part. Expect some rain, hopefully not a lot and HIGH WINDS!
On another note, I got the discs last night. They look sweet. I've got weights from 168 - 175 and colors of blue, red, orange, and white.

The current track has my house on the eyewall's east side (ie dirty side) and the SA area is completely out of the cone. We're 50/50 right now about heading your way to my in-laws in Schertz.

The current track has my house on the eyewall's east side (ie dirty side) and the SA area is completely out of the cone. We're 50/50 right now about heading your way to my in-laws in Schertz.
That said, you might have a couple of Houston folks hanging out on Saturday with you.
Yikes. Stay safe!

Go 'stros! 14 out of the last 15!
From Weather Underground (wunderground.com):
7 am to 4 pm: Likely Thunderstorms and Rain Showers (50%), with winds around 20-25 mph.
Where's the official disc golf report from CWare?
Where's Himing's personal weather bubble when we need it (though it'd do more good down Bender's way). :p

This will probably be my last post before the tourney begins.
Open Spots
There are still 3 spots available. At least 3 people have said they are just going to show up day of so if you want one of these 3 spots, a chance to win $300 worth of merchandise, and at least $150 worth of total cash ... show up early. I'll be at the course taking sign ups and check ins staring at 9:00 AM (at the latest).
Check In
Due to the weather we need to keep a tight schedule. ALL PLAYERS MUST BE CHECKED IN BY 9:30! Check ins start at 9:00.

However I've reallocated the hot dog funds to refreshments, 84 of which are on ice at my house right now ... make that 83 .

I reaally love that little disc! I played 9 holes (before LO went under water; Live Oak got a nice rain, Mc didn't get a drop) and 18 at McClain yesterday, used the hell out of it for upshots. If I get lucky I'm going to hit Mc again today. Great job little bro'!

From Discraft's Website:
"The 2008 Ace Race prototype disc has now been approved for PDGA tournament play, which will be good news for the thousands of disc golfers who are already carrying it in their bags.
A slightly overstable midrange that fits into the Discraft line-up between the Buzzz and Wasp, the disc is scheduled for general release to the public in the Spring of 2009, when it will be renamed 'Nebula'. All Ace Race copies are now legal."
