Dear Members,

As many of you have probably noticed, the delivery of PDGA member packages has been extremely slow this year compared to years past. I just got off the telephone with the U.S. Post Office in Atlanta where I was inquiring about the very slow delivery of shipments from the PDGA fulfillment house in Alpharetta, GA (just outside Atlanta). Our fulfillment partner also spoke with a representative of the Post Office for about two hours last week on the same subject. From what we have been able to find out, the reason for the delays in shipping this year are due in part to the opening of a new mail bulk processing center in Alpharetta. During the months of the transition from the old facility to the new facility, the bulk mail was being sent to the main post office in downtown Atlanta for processing rather than being handled by the local facility where it has always been done. The USPS "thinks" that the delays we are experiencing are due to this change in the normal process. The good news is that the new mail processing center is now in full operation so things should improve. The membership processing and fulfillment process were not changed at all from past years until just recently and these changes came about as a result of the office trying to find out where the problem was. We have processed and shipped the packages as fast as we always have but unfortunately, once the packages are in the mail system, they are out of our control.

Due to the challenges we have been faced with, the PDGA office recently completed an internal review of our entire fulfillment process and we have now developed a new system that should reduce delivery time even more. Unfortunately we will not see the benefits from this new system until later this year when the new fulfillment process is completely implemented in September. The turn around time on membership fulfillment should be reduced from the normal 3 to 5 weeks to about 1 to 2 weeks from the time you join or renew. Compare this to the 9 to 10 weeks that we have been subjected to this year and we will definitely see a vast improvement.

On behalf of the office, we are sincerely sorry for the delays this year but for the most part they were completely out of our control. To those of you who have been so patient and understanding, we thank you. To those of you who have been impatient and not so understanding in your phone calls and e-mails, we completely understand your frustration as we have been equally frustrated. We do kindly ask for your patience as we get through this rough period and assure you that there are great improvements on the horizon.

Thanks in advance for your understanding!
