has informed me that mini's will begin being held at Sooner Park (in bartlesville, of course) on this coming Monday, the 7th.

These will be run, until further notice, on the first and third monday's of the month.

It is and easy 45 minute carpool from Tulsa...

...come and support some locals and play a track that doesn't see much play.

My young guys have slowed down on their play this summer, I think is because they all have jobs and are too tired to play after baking in the heat all day. Check the results Buffy and leave your name off the "we" list. The only one you've been scoring with lately is Miss Beasly. You may have come out ahead last week on the "All CTP" challenge but that is only because Joel "The Cooler" Woody showed up. You've been two or three strokes in the red compared to me on the other minis. Why do you think I subsidize part of your entry from time to time?

i just want to thank Duff for breaking the bartlesville cherry for you tulsa cats. this week's mini was alot of fun, minus my score. i just want to stress that our course has alot of holes that you simply cannot find in tulsa i wish more of you would come check it out. (oh and our course is only going to be 9 holes for a while longer, our park department has decided to invest in finishing our multi decade old course.

im going to have some extra goodies added to all fields on this next mini. i hope that we can get a few more tulsa kids driving this way on the next mini. know your reading this treat so show up. oh and dont forget our next mini is Monday august 4th that is next monday so dont get confucius.

At this point Mike and Andrew both are hoping to be there.

What a fun time at the mini!

For those of you who haven't played it in awhile/never played it before Sooner Park is looking great right now!

It was a fun little round in a little played park, and fun was had by all.

I really enjoyed some of the holes. Dale has a fun yet challenging layout but a map, for the time being, will be necessary to locate all the different teeing areas.

A big thanks to Dale for running the mini!

I am sure to play that one again!

Sooner park is a great course. I know its only a 9 holer and the basic layout is okay but when the alternate pads are used it becomes a real golf course. Just look at the scores, only 3 players in the 40's. If you played the alternates for all 18 holes it makes for a real challenge.

For those of you that have not made the trip north, you NEED to. its only 45 minutes, easy to car pool and its worth the trip. ;)

Go north boys and show the locals what Tulsa has. :D

As Dave said the front 9 is very straight forward.
The back nine is definitely harder.
With elevation change and wind it can be tricky
There is only one truely flat green.
Saw alot of makeable putts missed in our group (including me) :o

I hate to break it to you Chris. But I don't think that course/area would be considered TDSA unless you just consider it under the TDSA umbrella like Stillwater and places like that...

As for why you are off of the mini schedule I do not know but I am sure it was just a mistake by Wayne Forest, who kindly manages the schedule for Tulsa.

I appreciate the fact that last month the Bartlesville Minis were added to the Tulsa Schedule.
As much as Chris and I are there it seems like we live in Tulsa. (me not so much recently) :p

But... I am a lifetime member of the TDSA
and one of MANY people who helped install the new courses for the AM Worlds
And did take a week of vacation (as many others did)
to be Course TD @ Hunter for the week @ AM worlds
(Hey where's my Golden Shovel) :o ;) :D

I say all of that just to make the point we do try
to support the TDSA and its events.
And consider ourselves friends of the TDSA
and appreciate help in return when possible

I appreciate Chris and his enthusiasm to have our events on the TDSA Schedule.

just thought i would say i am working on some more free stuff for the next mini which by the way is August 18th. it most likely will not be garield's food this time. how many people would be interested in something like a full moon mini at the ville? our park is very well lite at night and it is extremely hard to loose a disc.

Ok Guys this is your last chance to play the Bartlesville Course in 2008.

We will have our regular 18 in the morning
and the longer rarely seen Gold Temp Layout for the afternoon round.

We are in the process of raising money for our half of the back 9.
ALL PROCEEDS from this MINI will go toward that Fund.
We are looking at future event for a full fundraiser in the future.

Dale, I'll make it upr for one or both but definately the gold lay out.

If any of you have never been to B-Ville, then you need to go, even if you have been and have never played the alternate layout, then you need to go. This course offers nice shots, with some elevation and a good variation of holes. For a 9 hole course it plays like it has 27. ;)

... and Dale would also have copies of the mini-schedule ... maybe even copies of the Ice-Bowl-merch-list ... :D

January would be a perfect time. Just wondering who else in OK has Ice Bowls? Do you? I know T-town does. What about OKC? Anybody else? Just wondering. Nothing else to do after work but watch TV, play on the net, read, oh and the other, which is, anything you can do while sitting down.

I have discovered I now have internet access again.
At work and at Home,
Been a bummer to not have it either place.
Had lightning knock out some equipment.
I will have the results up tommorrow as I am at work right now.
Yes pines that were diseased and dying are in the process of being removed.
I have spoken with the parks director and we will have trees planted in the spring where the pines are being cut down.
Hopefully we will have 9 more holes ready by spring.

I had to look for this thread ... I'm sure Chris or Dale would be posting an updated pretty soon concerning Sooner park in B'ville... The course is now an 18 hole course, I also heard that it makes the course in owasso seem like a pitch n putt....and that after you play it you will wonder why they even mow chandler :p :eek:

We will be having minis every Thursday with Flex Starts starting at 530pm in August.
We had a first test of the new 18 with 17 players last night.
-6 was the best but double digits is definitely possible.

you guys are going to like our new back nine we have some with a good deal of elevation more than you will find in t town. we also have some water holes. i miss my first run echo excal already. there is a good amount of shade also on the back nine good for you oldtimers. nothing is really long but still very technical. if you want to give it a round call me 918 766-2097 otherwise show up at a mini this year we have only had bville people show up which makes a big amateur field.

I showed up yesterday only to find out D.P. cancelled.... Its all good though, eight of us got a round of dubs going and Norm and myself shot -15!!!:D So I guess the drive up there was worth it in the end! I've always liked Sooner Park... Like it even better now with the back nine in place!

I had already made a verbal commitment to the locals before I left for vacation 2 weeks ago for this Saturday.

Pual, I shot -8 with about a -6.5 avg.
I did some more figuring trying to weigh how fair this ended up playing out.
The system is trying to Level everyone at a score of around 50.
If you average 50 your handicap is 0.
My average was below 50 so I had to give shots to those over 50 avg.

I love crunching numbers, but dang... you put a lot into thinking this system through... seems like a good thing!

I love the idea of it being an equal playing field. except it is hard on guys like you with higher averages.

yes the 80% thing is a standard in ball (USGA) golf and the system has been tried and true for a really long time they have something called a Callaway system for players that have no verifiable or provable handicap but it is different it takes score over par and allows a player to drop one or more worst holes from the round based on their un-adjusted final score you would have to talk to a course pro that runs club tournaments with member guests events to get the low down on that one.

We used this system when we first started mini tournaments at Ben Geren and had very few players, it worked very well, I found it neat how close some results can be with rarely the same few guys winning all the time, it's neat to see a way that a 800 rated guy can compete with a 1000 rated player

My main motivation was to give everybody a chance.
Most times no matter what divsions people enter
there is a large spread between the best and worst.
That can be discouraging for players who are new and trying to get better.
I will be doing this on a monthly basis to try and give those guys a chance.
Hopefully they won't just give up and go away.

Update on Moccasin...

The hay field on #1 and #2 was cut and bailed and looks great.
Most of the course is in good shape.

Areas that you should note are...
#7 and #9 have thick grass in the landing areas at the bottom.
The dogleg #14, high grass around edges, wouldn't throw over top without spotting.
#15 and #16, high grass around edges.
#17 and #18 back out into the cut and bailed field and looks great.

I hope to be over and get some weedeater time soon on these areas.
Should be ready for primped by next Mondays Mini.
Jim said he was planning to get Moccasin freshly mowed this week also.

For those who can't make the Riverside 1pm Mini...
Or will be in the Bartlesville area on Saturday....

We will be having a 1pm Bartlesville Mini this Saturday at Sooner Park.
This will be a throwback to a Forest Classic: A birdie Hunt.

You will have 2 drives and 2 putts (if needed) on each hole.
2 points for 1st drive and 1st putt birdie, 1 point for all other birdie combos.
5 points for an ace on either drive :D
There will many shorter temp tees to make this easier for the Ams.

$10 for Pro, $5 for all others, plus $1 each for CTP and Round Ace Pot
There will be free CTP's in play and no I won't be in it.
The regular Ace Pot will not be in play due to several much shorter holes :)
We will throw off the Round's Ace Pot if its not hit.

This will be the last B'ville event for 2010.

This ring of fire is random and designed to give everyone a chance....
I took a quarter and with a disc over a cup shook it up and flipped it back onto the disc...
Then everyone flips, then the coin is revealed, if your disc matches the head/tails of the coin you continue..... until we have a winner.

Ok, first time out to the lodge...I've seen all the maps/directions on their web page showing me to basically take 11 north from 20 in Skiatook to where 11 runs into 99 (is what the map looks like) just west of Pershing. I can't find much of anything from there...any details would be appreciated.

Once you come to the Tee at Hwy 99 make a right.
As you are going north you will see hole # 16 Island Course basket just on your left.
Turn in the driveway on the left about a 1/2 mile north of the tee.
There are 2 worn yellow innova Banners on the fence by the mailbox.
Once you turn in you will see the Taylor Drilling Services sign on the left.
Keep to the left on the gravel drive and about 400 yards to the end.
There are 2 Trailers at the end of the driveway.
You are there.
