What I mean specifically is over the past few years it was always Feldberg, Schultz, Climo, Korver, and Des dominating every event, but this year we've seen alot of other top pro's step up. Not to say they havent stepped up before, but this season you really cant say who is going to end up #1 for a particular tournament, or for the year. Doss, Nikko, Rico Valarie, and others have really shown this past year that there other big names out there, and are providing excellent competition for every Open player. I am loving this season because it's great to see these players show they are true contenders, and it almost feels as if the torch is starting to be passed. Anyone else agree about the variety of winners we have this season over the usual??

I haven't checked the stats but I don't think the top players are traveling as much as previous years which may be opening up more opportunities for more different players to win. There are also more and more events each year with several weekends where A-tiers are on opposite coasts which helps spread the wealth. The Drive for the Championships is also highlighting the results of more players with the point system going deeper at each NT.
It will be interesting to see how the actual stats play out because your observation may be true. However, I'm thinking KC or Barry have a good shot at another Worlds title this year based on the courses but it is Feldberg's old stomping grounds. Cale could round out the top four in the Finals as the newest face in that group but he was also top 4 last year.
Geoff Bennett might be the dark horse in there. KC won Majestic last year and the other guys mentioned were the Final 9 this year. The courses being played at K-Zoo are similar to those played for the Majestic this year.

Did you also see what Barry shot this weekend? I'm not sure Feldberg will get to maximize his distance advantage, similar to the Majestic where he lost to Barry, and that keeps KC and BS as strong contenders playing at their best on these average SSA courses for Worlds.

Yeah but what he loses in distance advantage he makes up for in the luck or Borg advantage.

OK, $10 on it and I get Barry, Ken or Cale to win. You get Borg and pick two others. What ya think?

I'll give you four Open players just for fun. The deal is off if any of our choices doesn't start or finish all scheduled rounds. I think Randolph lived or was from there at one point but you never know if he's playing. I would think Borg, Bennett, Doss and Rico would be a formidable set of players. I think this setup would be ideal for Schweb to win if he could come.

More than 4 hours between Canton, OH and Kalamazoo.
Cold Brook has been changed a fair amount since Feldberg last played it but it's still a short, technical course.

I don't know man there are a lot of good players that will be in the top 8. It is a long week so I always look for the Vets to be up at the top because ONE sub 1000 round will cause you to drop many strokes.

Cold Brook is the course where you have to shoot hot, close to double figures. Albion has the water hazards with a few holes that statistically a few will have enough trouble to to drop several shots. I'm not sure you'll see as much scoring swing on Oshtemo or Timber at the top although there are a few holes at each of those that favor the bigger guns like Doss, Feldberg, Leiviska and Kallstrom who may gain a few.

I'm talking about tweener "par 3s" for most people in the 410 to 465 range with some woods to contend with that can be birdied with both accuracy and power.

I get that chuck just trying to get a fell for how long those tweener holes were as I plan on getting them. I also plan on missing most of the birdie holes. :p

I've been doing that lately. I've also begun to notice how much easier a 275 foot up shot from the fairway for par or birdie on a long par 4 is compared to a tee shot. Odd.

Just listed the guys who came to mind that finished in the top 5 at Worlds last year. Randolph would be on it also but not sure if we'll see him. Whereas Highbridge had many opportunities for these players to gain an advantage, Kalamazoo will be a different set of challenges where distance won't pay off as much. It's going to be a lot more like Worlds in Flagstaff in 2003 or Augusta 2006 with a ski hill course in place of Hippodrome.

That's only because John couldn't get the boulder buncr done on that hole before the event. :D You'll wish you had a par 6 and some more 5s at Kalamazoo. Maybe two par 5s total on all pro courses with one at Albion. Haven't seen Timber but I heard there's at least one. Unless they're doing something tricky in rerouting at Cold Brook, 360-400 might be the longest hole there. I think Oshtemo has two holes in the 500s but no 5s.

Hello Lansing!
So I've got my flights booked to come home for the CCR open. Been awhile since I played a tourny back there...like maybe 8 years?
Flying to Midway and driving in...hoping to play Timber Ridge on Friday in prep. for Worlds. Anyone want to join?
Also would like to register or reserve a spot. Is Bob Walz a member here? Guess I'll just give him a call.
Anyway, just wanted to say hey and Ill see ya in 5 weeks!
