I'm curious if anyone knows Heath Sanders (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/playerstats.php?PDGANum=13454). I ask because he has a DGA Mach III Basket (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200233324587&ssPageNam e=ADME:B:EF:US:1123) on Ebay and some red flags started jumping out at me. I wanted to come on here and see if anyone knows him and the area he's from because this has all the signs stolen property and I certainly wouldn't want to bid, win, or receive any stolen property. I'm sure someone from that area (North Canton, Ohio) can shed some light on this.

He mentioned that he has had it for a few years. However, that basket is clearly more like early 90's or late 80's even. He did not say if he bought it a few years ago but he said he's had it a few years. It has the OLD "Disc Golf Course" writing on the number plate but the number 5 decal is from within the past few years. Also, if you look closely you can see that the number 5 decal is after market compared to the decal that used to be on that number plate. Remember, any basket within the past 6 or 7 years has had the new DGA logo on the number plate. Also, that is NOT a standard DGA focal point. Instead, it's more like a Discraft focal point.

And the elephant in the room that jumps right off the page is the pole and pole assembly that comes with it. We all know that all original baskets that come from Discraft, DGA, or Innova all come in one solid pole. This doesn't have an anchor but instead it looks like it shoves straight into the ground and then attaches by what would be the ground locking collar to the pole to the bottom of the basket.

I originally asked him a few questions via Ebay just out of curiosity but the more I look at the auction the more I've become skeptical. It just seems like too many things don't add up.

Please keep in mind that I am NOT accusing him of stealing it OR having stolen property. I am really on here just asking if anyone knows him or can vow for the validity of this basket and this potential sale. I guess that's what I get for being too detail orientated - I think I discovered that there were far too many odd things about this particular basket to just take it at face value.

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions? Am I over-reacting here? I'm not out to start a witch hunt but with 5 or 6 random baskets being stolen from disc golf courses in Wisconsin in the past 2 months I'm really getting tired of this happening.

I don't know the guy.

You're not overreacting Terry. It draws some red flags for sure. I have never seen a pole hole setup like that. Very fishy., Does this look like any of ours that have been taken?

Hopefully someone from that area will take notice or possibly someone knows the guy.

---Nice back yard
---scores of positive eBay feedback from reputable disc golf retailers
---he has kids

I don't think he is a thief...I think you are overreacting, but I appreciate your vigilance. Certainly a dude purchasing that much plastic on eBay plays enough frolf to be known by somebody on here...either one of the abovementioned retailers or someone in his area?

Giyatdang, I hope I'm right......one day, when I'm in charge, I'll line all the basket thieves up against the wall (R.I.P. #12 at TX State San Marcos (stolen and unreplaced for 9 months)).

Keep in mind we had 4 baskets stolen within I believe 4 courses in the last 6 weeks in our area. So we might be on edge.....

Where we are sitting we're on the lookout....

Thanks though for the info.

Funny thing, I was up in Medina this weekend for a wedding. Got to talking to a buddy who had played the Medina course on Fri. (Per Him) #5 HAD been stolen from the course not too long ago. Makes you wonder.

By chance, did he say where he got the basket. Anybody that has a basket like that one can/should be able to tell you where he purchased it and from whom. By the pole, it's been in the ground for a while. Red # is pretty fresh. Any basket that have recently, say a year had the numbers redone.

I guess the search for a missing basket is normal because I did the same thing after purchasing a Mach-3 many years ago. A few weeks of research starting before the purchase couldn't find any local course with a stolen basket that matched it.

I spoke with Johnny Sias the other day and he said there was a basket stolen recently from Huntington, WV where the thief actually cut the pole off and left a bunch of the pole in the ground. ONly about 3 hours away from this seller. I wonder if that is where it could be from. The course has older mach 3's like this one. hmmmm????

Could be, but its more along the lines of 4 1/2 to 5 hours from Huntington. I am assuming your talking about Rotary?

Here in Dayton we have had 6 baskets stolen so far this year. 3 from one course all in the same night. The most recent one that was stolen from Indian Riffle Park, they dug up the concrete and all. The others they have either cut the lock tab off or cut the pole off down by the tab. I dont get it thought. I mean at least around here everybody knows everybody. I cant see someone trying to use the baskets, and well as this thread points out, its not like you can just list it on eBay without some one questioning it. Why steal them? Some one is going to find out. Just burns me up when it happens.

Drop a stick or two of rebar in each pipe to stop people from being successful cutting the pipe. Doesn't stop lock cutting though. Bolt cutter available for $10 at home building stores.

Scrap metal?

Steel scrap doesn't go for as much as copper or some other metals.
