Last Night on my way home from the Schenley Park league in Pittsburgh my wife and I stopped at McDonalds to grab a bite. On the back of the reciept my wife noticed a $1,000 sweepstakes and mentioned to me that she thought they were scams. As I was reading the small print I noticed something that I thought was a little wierd. It reads and I quote,

No Purchase Necessary. Sweepstakes consists of individual weekly Entry Periods. Open only to legal residents of the US and Canada (other than the Province of Quebec), 15 years of age and older. In order to win, a Canadian resident must correctly answer a skill testing question. See Offical Rules at BLAH BLAH BLAH.

WTF, is that suppost to mean? Does McDonalds discriminate against Canadians who can't answer a skill testing question? What type of question would they ask?

It just shocked me to read that. I'm confused what thats all about and thought I would share with yiners from the North.

just happen to have a receipt here (im fat ;)

here's the whole verbage...

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY
Sweepstakes consists of individual weekly Entry Periods.
Open only to legal residents of the US and Canada (other than the Province of Quebec), 15 years of age and older.
In order to win, a Canadian resident must correctly answer a skill testing question. See Official Rules at www.mcdonalds-survey.com. (http://www.mcdonalds-survey.com.)
Void where prohibited. Limit one entry per person per Entry Period

... i see a couple other things... first they are giving a big golden arched finger to Quebec even more than Canada as a whole... that'll teach them for speaking french... french quebec... french fries... maybe there's something there?
...next... its actually worded so ambiguously that it appears that for ANYONE to win a Canadian has to pass the skill test.

McDonalds... helping write the PDGA rule book since 1989 ;)

This is not a McDonalds thing but a Quebec and Canada thing. Apparently laws in Canada do not allow lottery type prizes (unless perhaps state run) and requires some skill based rationale for winning prizes. Likewise, Quebec must not allow it at all, skill or not. You'll see similar restrictions for some types of drawings in certain states for other types of prize contests. Feel fortunate that so far we've dodged laws in some states regarding how prizes for DG competitions are calculated.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that Canada would not allow poor people to enter there country a while back not sure on when but I was watching the history channel and it mentioned it!
