Tis true. The recipe was stolen from a company called budvar.
Budweiser got so big that when the budvar wanted to be compensated the US gov't intervened and threatened to sanction the Czech.
Or so Ive heard.

I know they are sponsoring a big tourney in SA land, however, who really cares? It's about the worst beer going, if you can even call it beer. Handcrafted Beechwood aged my rear. ick!
GIVE ME A BELL'S!

Dan, when was the last time you were in the States and had some American craft-brewed beer? American microbrews such as anything produced by Stone Brewing Company, Three Floyds Brewing Company, Russian River Brewing, Victory Brewing Company, Green Flash Brewing Company, and Bell's rival any beer made anywhere in the world.

yup... i've been to cesky budejovice (or Budweis in english)... a small Czech town about an hour or so from one of the coolest places i've ever visited Cesky Krumlov (google it... good stuff)
sucks that they stole the image/etc a long while back and the czech company could never fight it since Czechoslovakia went under communism (which doesnt tend to care about capitalism and company brands) and by the time the communistic reign was over in 89 American Bud was obviously a big name and could throw its weight around when Czech Bud tried to import into the US (i dont think they tried that until the late 90s?)
btw... they do import now as Czechvar

but they are still known as Budvar or Budweiser everywhere else

I haven't been back since 2006. I'll be there from June 20 until July 11th. What do you recommend that I try that's available in NC?
Although, to be fair, I don't drink as much beer as I used to. The last few years, it's been more wine and single malt whiskey. In our club, it's a requirement that all members keep a flask of single malt in their bag! ;)

Check the BEER (http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=819995&an=0&page=0#Post8 19995) thread, where a lot of the NC guys have weighed in. Availability varies from state to state - some of the beers I mentioned above may not be available in North Carolina.

I'll be getting in a little golf. Not any PDGA events but certainly some doubles and maybe CDGC singles.
