hoping to be healed up in time for this one but most likely will have to drop (like i am this weekend from the Points Bonanza) :(

random thought and i'm seriously just curious to see what others think... for an event like this should there even be a rec division? i understand the age divisions but should someone be able to win a metal in a division thats protected based on ability? Looking at the other sports like Track & Field I wouldn't expect to be able to enter the 400 in a lower division because my times aren't as fast as others.

Refund Policy
There will be NO REFUND of entry fees, except if an applicant is determined to be ineligible because of failure to meet residency or age requirements.
NO refunds due to weather.

seems contradictory to section 1.3F of the competition manual but I do understand that this isnt the TD making the call (im sure Todd would give the $ back if he could) this is the 'governing body' of the NC State Games which I guess would trump the PDGA in this case?

haleigh
Jun 17 2008, 02:21 PM
where is this so called "refund policy"? I looked for it but could not find it..

If the TD was cool you would have a few days to let him know if you could not play.

stack
Jun 17 2008, 02:24 PM
its not the TD ... the TD at this tourney never actually touches any money or anything.

the 'refund policy' is in the competition manual

http://www.pdga.com/documents/2008/08CompetitionManual.pdf

1.3. Withdraws and Refunds
A. A player may officially withdraw only by contacting the
Tournament Director.
B. Players must email or phone their withdrawals to the
Tournament Director only at the contact information
posted.
C. Discussions with persons other than the Tournament
Director, including other tournament staff, shall not be
considered official.
D. No refunds will be issued after the 7th day prior to the
start of the event, but the player shall be sent a players
package if one was provided to event competitors.
E. Withdrawals made before the 7th day prior to the start of
the event shall receive a 50% refund.
F. Withdrawals made 14 days prior to the start of the event
shall be refunded 100 %, less postage and handling,
which shall not exceed 10% of the entry fee.
G. These criteria may be relaxed at the discretion of the
Tournament Director.

I'm sure G trumps F in this case and putting G in there might as well say... the first 6 really dont matter.

but in this case if the TD sides with me I still dont think it'll help since he never touches the $ and it is handled by the governing body of the 'NC Sports'

haleigh
Jun 17 2008, 02:31 PM
"appears they dont refund (even when i told them weeks... maybe a month in advance)."
But F should still be valid...seeing you gave them a months notice?

yeah... not fighting this battle though... this is more of an FYI for others so it doesnt happen to them.

phluffhead
Jun 17 2008, 02:50 PM
That's Lame Stack. Even a TD, whom I believe can't stand me, allowed me to use my entry fee for another player, whom I believe he also doesn't care for. Because it's That's what was best for the game and I respect him for that. However, I don't see how a TD or committee can deny you your money when the Competition Manaul states under F. Who is this committee anyways?

MTL21676
Jun 17 2008, 03:01 PM
The TD refund policy is taken way to literally.

JJ twice in one year was not given refunds b/c he withdraw both times due to injury.

My policy is simple. If you are hurt, sick, emergency, get scheduled to work randomly, anything like that that sounds somewhat valid, you get a full refund.

If you don't want to come b/c the weather will suck, sorry. If you change your mind, sorry.

TD's all over the place want people to not wait and sign up for tournament but then they are picky about refunds. To me the best way to get people to pre-register is to be somewhat open minded about refunds.

NC State Games is the 'governing body' for this...
http://www.ncsports.org/sgmain.php

I did however decide to actually dig through the website and the documents pertaining to this specific event and can't find any refund or no refund policy anywhere. I may take up the cause w/ the NC State Games some more.

and again... this is in no way related to the TD... Todd doesnt see any of the money or deal with any of the registration. He's just given a list of the competitors... the discs and awards and turns in the results.

I'm sure G trumps F in this case and putting G in there might as well say... the first 6 really dont matter.

it seems with the purposed wording in G that the discretion of the TD would only be to make the criteria less strict, or "relaxed". changing the no refund timeline from the 7th day prior to the point of registration seems to be more strict / stringent... or the opposite of relaxed.

However since he is listed as the TD for a PDGA event, I feel that he is responsible for this aspect of the tournament also. He should be able to determine that under the competition manual that you informed them in due time and should recieve 100% refund. Good Luck

good point... either way the actual TD (Todd) is on the side of giving the refund and would if he could.

and Todd has contacted them but I've mentioned that i'd rather not bring the PDGA into this for fear of having NC Sports want to take the PDGA out of this event and not let us sanction it anymore. Would hate to see that happen and am fine w/ just getting my players pack disc.

The NC State Games is run by a separate Organizing body independent of the PDGA. This organization, North Carolina Amateur Sports, runs the State Games each year with many sports involved. In fact, several of the sports began regional games weeks ago. The finals are held in one municipal area; this year it is Greenboro/High Point.
The State Games began after a group in Raleigh bid to host the US Olympic Sports Festival in 1987. An event previously held in non-Olympic years in order to give younger athletes the opportunity to compete in an Olympic level competition. In some sports it was a showcase for the public to see top level competitors in an event not regularly seen, Rhythmic gymnastics, Fencing and Archery to name a few.
As to refunds, I am not positive. I think you would have to address this issue with the NC Amateur Sports organization.
We are fortunate enough to be "tagging along" with a part of the USOC. In this small way disc golf is part of the "Olympic Movement".
Here's hoping this clears a bit of the questions up.

i had no questions about any of that but if others did then thanks :)

as mentioned... i've been in contact w/ the NC State Games peeps and dont plan on pushing this really @ all or bringing the PDGA into things because I dont want to harm the relationship you mentioned.

Tator Will be defending his Gold for last year. Eddie Garmon is always one to watch out for. Shaun Lynot has to be on the list.

But rumor has it Cheebo and Andy Masi will be there Going for Gold. not signed up yet David Wiggins Jr. Five min. from the course.

Tator, Thanks for the kind words I will pass on to Andrew. Maybe should have said something sooner. Andrew and I talk about his Goals in Disc all the time as you would guess. We try not to deviate from the plan very much. Last year we decided Andrew would only play his age group at Worlds and the North Carolina State Games.

The State Games is a time for him to play with NC JRs and to remind himself he is a Jr. And hopefully encourage the young players. He made a point at the Horizons classic to speak to the Jrs playing and complement them on the progress in their games.

Is he Bagging Well yes some will say that. He plays David Jr again this year at Worlds. So being State Champion is like a consolation prize.

So enjoy the week off guys. He is back to intermediate for the Tar Heel Tournament. Everything he has done this year has been to prepare for UNC. His only goal this year was to do well at UNC.

Ok, BigRock its Thursday. 16 more hours in the work week. A final practice round on Friday. A good nights sleep and then finally some ROCK CRUSHING.

Observations:

Last year we could barely put together a Rec division This year it the largest division.

Only four returning Gold Medalist Defending there titles.

Bagger Division. Other wise known as Amateur Intermediate.
Tj and Tyson are talking some smack. Well I think its more TJ doing the Talking. I know that hard to believe.

And you have to watch out for a guy in Grand masters. I hear from a very good source he has game. Good luck Stuart look forward to see you on Saturday.

Advanced Masters Returning Gold Medalist David Wiggins Sr. He will be hard to beat at Home.

Oh ya the before Rec Division. Who will it be? I had a not so good practice round last night. Below par. Not my best but it felt good. I cant explain it.

Kenneth Martin just coming off a rec win at the Horizons Classic.
BigRock / Mini Thumber always a contender.
Fred Ingram Defending Gold Medelist.

Everyone be sure they tell TJ how much they like his new outfit that he bought for the State Games. He is really proud of it.

You know what they say about dudes that show up in new outfits. Look good, play bad.

Tyson poses no real threat

Its not if you win or loss, but how you play the game.

Well said,

Its about sportsmanship.

Play your best.

Play the course not the people on your card.

Encourage those around you.

Went and played the course this last Tuesday to see what it looked like. Intermediates are shooting both rounds at white tees, correct?

Shot a 45, unfortunatly that will prob reverse into a 54 for the tourney.

OOhh slapnuts, you're really tempting me to drive up there tonight. Just for the challenge, I might spend $30.00 gas for this. Let's see 150 mi round trip 15 mi per gal=10 gal X$4.00 = $40.00. A chance to accept the challenge, priceless.

I hope some more people will come play advanced. We're in danger of being at 5 people due to injuries depending on how Cheebo's back is holding up.

Or else we might just have to combine Adv. and intermediate, TJ would be so happy!

how bout the club ace pool,is it included?

I do not control the club Ace pool. It would be wrong to put it up for doubles It's a singles ace pool from tueday nights. but I will add Five (5) dollars to what ever ace pool we end up with tonight.. BUT if NO ACE I KEEP THE FIVE.

We will throw off for the rest.

So Come on out

$5 a person
$1 ace pool if you wish to get in.

I will add $10 to the first place team pay out.(that $5 a person)

and add $5 to ace pool only if there is an ace.

No, Advance shot from the blue tee's the first round. Wyatt and I should have shot from the pink tee's. I gained another step on the Baggers Cup, but looks like I didn't bag at all. Wyatt , we need to start a new division, say, WannaBe Rec.

Thanks to all the Volunteers. Pretty smooth day with all the helpers. Those of you who gave of your time THANKS.
We appreciate all of the donations for CTP 's as well. all 18 holes were sponsored. I dont know if those ratings are accurate. Advanced played BLUE, BLUE and were the only group to do so. Lil wiggins round should have been like a 1010 and 990 most likely from looking at other years from the blue tees. Congrats dave. Had great groups both rounds. Thanks, to HP P& R, GB P & R, NCAS,
Hope I can make it down to Charlotte next year.

Thanks to Todd, Tatersack, Stuart and all those who helped out. Thank you everyone who gave Patty moral support. We're trying to get her hooked too. Rocky thanks for the killer beef jerky. If any company is looking for a beef jerky recipe, talk to Rocky. Its great. You know he didn't grow so big on tofu! Good seeing you Rocky, Wyatt and everyone. Can't wait to do it all again. I think my next event will be the High country Throwdown. David will be at Tarheel with wyatt and andrew next week thanks to wyatt's continuing help with transportation
