Pre registration on Titledisc should be up soon. I have sent in the request, but i'm sure Josh is knee deep in his own event...so it may not be up until next week. I will let you know when its ready.
Regardless, please sign up early if you know you are coming. I can't officially register anyone until I get payment in hand (Titledisc entries are considered registered, payment comes to me afterwards). You can print a registration form from the Wild Hair 08 link on the website (my sig line). You can make checks out to Jerry Kingston and send them that way. If you want to wait until Sat. morning to sign up (assuming there are spots left then) registration WILL END at 8:30a
Because Will Hair park is only 10 holes (played twice) I can fit no more than 50 players on it...so if your a Pro or Advanced player...make sure you get in by signing up early. We were 6 short of filling last year and even though there is an event in San Antonio that will draw against us, we could still fill just with the players in our area. Plus, it always makes it way easier on the staff and keeps the event running on time Saturday morning if they dont have a big group of players to sign up. If you know your driving in Sat., please pre-register. If your playing Friday doubles, you can sign up then.

Bringing Will Hair back seems to be really well recieved. Having Discrazy on board helps too..he always has some cool stuff to throw into the mix.
Should be fun!!

Dalton, if you are going then you can camp out in my back yard. I still have my house down in Abilene, I think Teague plans on staying there if he goes. It's five mins away from Cal Young Park and 10 mins from Will Hair.

Theres enough left that we don't want to get discs in their fence, lest we end up with more holes in our bodies when we leave
There's really not any camping near the course. Fort Phantom lake is about the closest, but thats a good 15 mins from Will Hair and 25 from Cal Young. I have a backyard that can hold probably 3 tents if people need a place to stay. Our host hotel is only $52 per night with up to 4 per room. I understand with gas costs, thats just another expense you dont want to have to deal with...but, if you can get 4 folks at $13 each per night..its not a bad deal. And, its 5 mins from either park.
I've already had some inquiries about on-line pre-registration. Titledisc.com will probably have it up next week. Don't worry...I dont have anyone officially signed up yet. You should have plenty of time to get signed up once thats ready.
I think for the rounds at Will Hair, everyone will play the short tees the first time around, then the long tees the second time around. I'm waiting on confirmation from the PDGA, but I think I'm going to do this anyway so we have more of a legitimate 20 hole course...not a 10 hole course played twice.
More later...

Less than 2 weeks away! I have a few more sponsorships and will work on more sponsorship right up until the tournament. Remember that you can sign up on Titledisc until next Tuesday around noon. (thats only 9 days). Titledisc is a great way to make sure that you have a spot...well worth the minimal extra fees for peace of mind. Regardless, if its at all possible please sign up BEFORE Saturday morning. I will only take registrations Sat. morning until 8:30a! The event must start on time!
I think we have 6 officially registered. Remember that you are not officially registered until I have an entry from and money in hand. Any questions, let me know.

I don't guess I have ever played the long tees at Will Hair. Unless the long tees are the monster setup Alan did for the 1st wild hair??
Jroc
Jun 10 2008, 12:04 PM
NO monster setup....I dont want to get lynched :D
Some of the long tees are longer than the regular tees...a few ARE the regular tees. On a few holes, there will be 2 totally different tee locations than the regular tees. Basically expect to play the holes in the same order but partly in a different way than you have played them before :D Clear as mud?
*cough, cough* come play doubles Fri *cough, cough*
I FINALLY feel like things are starting to come together. I got a late start on some of the behind the scenes stuff, but I think its finally shaping up to be what I had in mind :D
Remember, Titledisc registration closes next Tues. You will be able to sign up all day Fri. Please help out and sign up as early as you can :D

I signed up for ADV. as well Brad, and I think Jerry posted somewhere that Friday will be the boxes we're playing at Will Hair. Hope I can get out of here earlier enough to play it...we'll see!
Brandon, don't know if it's a full list or not, but neither of you are listed here http://titledisc.com/prereg.php?eventid=339, and there is no player list on the tour page.

I think Alan is coming by today to pay 4 entries (one of those is yours I guess?) Fri. doubles will be the Wild Hair setup - 20 holes, short tees first 10 then long tees second 10, Par 62.
There will only be one division.
We have about 10 signed-up right now....I will probably have a players list up by Fri. I don't expect the bulk of the entries to come until next Fri. I will keep a close eye on how fast the entries come in just in case it starts to fill before then.

23 sponsors so far...with more on the way! Anyone out there like Abuelo's? :D
Its looking like there is a chance I will get to play! My wife would rather help run it,...and, I got word a few days ago that Gary Neal isnt gong to play this year. He has had some knee problems recently and hes going to take some time off. I really hate that Gary cant play...he's been around the longest of those that still participate and support the West Texas Disc Twisters. Not 100% yet, but its looks pretty positive that I will get to play :-)

Jroc
Jun 13 2008, 11:25 AM
Definitly hotter than last year...and, it has been unusually windy for this time of year....even for Abilene. Guess everyone will just have to make better shots :D
I should be able to get a players list up later today. 14 official so far (Alan got yours in last night Brandon) and probably 4-5 more in the mail that I know of. Most are Pro/Adv...probably a dozen or so. Titledisc closes next Tues, so if you are signing up through that...dont delay!!
Now for some exciting news. Everyones heard of the X-calibur. Everyone knows its only in Star plastic. Or is it?!? Matt Smart and Discrazy are bringing a limited number of fresh, hot off the press, tournament stamped CHAMPION X-calibur's. They are about to be released commercially, but if you come to the Wild Hair, you can buy one ahead of everyone in the world! (I'm sure there are a few proto-types floating around...lay off ok...I'm on a roll :D). Just another reason to make your way to Abilene next weekend
Speaking of the heat, it will be HOT this year. Expect temps to be near 100 all weekend. Bring sunscreen!! I will have bottled water provided and water coolers out on both courses. We had a pretty mild summer last year, but were paying for it this year....
Look for a players list later today or tonight.

New players list up....20 total....15 Pro.Adv.
Speaking of....I put down on paper who all I thought would be coming this year....and, to help accomodate more players, I decided to add 1 more hole to Will Hair. So, Will Hair will now play as a 22 hole Par 68 course. I am adding a hole between 8 and 9....Hole 8A. It will also have a long and short tee...just like the others at Will Hair. Those that have played the Wild Hair in the past will remember it. This way, we can have up to 55 Pro, Master, Advanced, Advanced masters, Advanced Women players in the Wild Hair this year. There is no room to add anymore holes at Will Hair, so 55 is it! Sign up soon.
I can't stress enough how much you need to sign up BEFORE Saturday. Intermediate, Rec, Jnr divisions...should be plenty of room for you. Pro, Adv....don't count on it..... If you know you are going to make it and are in Pro or Adv. please let me know ASAP! I will put you on the "almost entered" list so I have an idea of how many spots I have left. We brought Will Hair back into our annual tournament by popular demand....but, it comes with a price.... we have to split the field, and that field is limited. If you are planning to come to doubles on Friday and pay then, thats fine....but get there as early as you can. I do not want to turn anyone away...but I will if I have to.
All right...I think everyone gets the point....more later.
Paul Taylor
Jun 15 2008, 09:37 AM
Put me on that almost entered list. I will be coming in late Thursday night or early friday morning, depends if the girls come with me or not. I will pay you at doubles, speaking of, I will need a partner if anybody comes out and needs one also.
Put me in MM1.
It's always nice to come home.
Jroc
Jun 16 2008, 02:00 PM
K...I know Rocky Lawless from Levelland is also looking for a partner...hes MM1 player as well.
Pro/Adv.players that sign up before Sat. should be fine. If you want to be "for sure", I will be at one of the courses until sun down all this week. You could sign up Thursday. cell # is 325-829-6579.
Stay tuned to this thread...I will update it constantly so everyone knows how close were getting to the limits. Got 16 official Pro/Adv....with probably 9 on the "almost entered" list. Add in 32 more that I expect to come....anyone play musical chairs before? The limit must be 55 for that group of divisions. I cant say that enough. Anyone out there who knows people who are coming but may not pay attention to the message boards, please let them know! My biggest fear is someone driving up late Friday night or Sat morning thinking they have a spot when its already full....I REALLY dont want to turn anyone away...but I will if I have to!
Jroc
Jun 16 2008, 04:35 PM
I have had a few phone calls and I want to make sure everyone understands. Let me try to explain the reasoning behind our player limits:
We brought back Will Hair by popular demand. We are spliting the field between Cal Young and Will Hair Parks. For Rd. 1 the Pro, Masters, Advanced Men, Advanced Masters, and Advanced Women divisions will play on one course. The Intermedeate, Intermedeate Women, Recreational Men and Juniors will play on the other course.
For Rd. 2, those division groups will swap courses. Rd. 3 will be like Rd. 1.
Will Hair is a 9 hole course. We have added 2 holes to Will Hair making it an 11 hole course (each hole played twice, but from different tees each time..giving 22 distinct holes). In sanctioned events, the maximum players per hole is 5. Multiply that by the number of holes, and you get 55...the maximum number of total players allowable on that course.
More players will sign up in the Pro/Adv. group than the other group...possibly more than 55. Hence, the need to make everyone aware of the limits.
This does NOT mean the entire field is capped at 55. Actually, I can't have more than 55 in the Intermedeate, Intermedeate Women, Junior group either, but that is not nearly as much of a concern as going over 55 in the Pro/Adv. groups. 110 total players is the maximum now.
Some are probably wondering why not just add more holes? 2 reasons.
1) My personel belief is that no 1 round in a sanctioned event should be more than 21 holes. Also, since Will Hair is 10 minutes away from and will take longer to play than Cal Young, the rounds at Will Hair can't play any longer and still run the 2 two courses relativly on time.
2) The quality of the holes. The PDGA says it only takes 15 holes to be able to officially rate a round, and 15 holes would allow up to 75 players on it. It is possible to fit 6 more baskets out there, but frankly a few of those holes would be worthless. Too worthless for my taste. Are all the exsisting holes high quality holes? No. Do I want to add more low quality holes? No.
So there you have it. I'm sorry if some don't agree with this decision or they feel like I'm not doing things the right way (again). For better or worse...this is how it will be at this years Wild Hair.
warlocks00
Jun 16 2008, 05:15 PM
Who's the TD???
Oh that's right you are....You can make the choices you want, if people want to complain offer for them to TD next year's Wild Hair and just try and see if they can do a better job.
I'm glad to see Will Hair back in the mix, if it's takes limiting the fields....so be it to get to play both courses while in Abilene!
Thanks for all you do Jerry!!!

LOL I knew it wouldn't take long for Brandon to see that one! I expect the doo-doo talking to reach new heights this year :D
Got the new players list up last night, but couldnt get on the boards to annouce the update. 36 players now. 31 of those are Pro/Adv. 21 of these are PAID entries and official. The other 10 are in there because I know and trust that they will show up, barring any unforeseen circumstances. I wanted to get them in there to show everyone just how full we are starting to get. That leaves only 24 spots in Pro/Adv left!! I still have some 28 Pro/Adv players on paper that I expect to show up :oSomeones not getting in! Musical chairs folks....musical chairs.
Again, this number does NOT affect Int., Rec, and Jnr. The main concern is the Pro/Adv. Next year, if the majority agrees...we will have a new design at Will Hair and 3-4 more permanent baskets and more room to breath :D But, thats only in the planning stages....nothing official
Got some work done at Cal Young last night...on to Will Hair tonight. Also got the Final 7 measured. Not quite as long as I thought, but still should provide for a good display for the gallery :D
Sign up soon. Don't make the trip assuming you have a spot...KNOW you have a spot. Gas is pretty expensive these days.... If your not on the list and you KNOW your coming, please call me so I can get your name down. If you are mailing me a check/money...it must go out NO LATER THAN TODAY. If you send it after that, I will not get it in time. If I dont have your money, I can not sign you up.
I will be out at the course all day Friday. If your playing doubles, sign up then. Does everyone get the idea by now that I need you to sign up early? :D
Should be a great weekend! Come prepared for 100+ temps....sunscreen and lots of fluids. We will have water coolers and bottled water available...but bring your own too!!

I have a couple of predictions to make, Seabolts take first in their respected divisions. Another is that I will take first in the friday night poker. Also, it will break 100 degrees on sunday. That's all for now.

Hehe...We'll see. Theres a certain local disc golfer that predicted a -11 at Will Hair the first round :o We'll see about that one too...
Had a few additions and a few subtractions....still 42 players....17 left in Pro Adv. Also, I found out that some of the locals will not make it, so we might be able to accomodate all the Pro/Adv that want in. But, dont delay....if your coming....please call to make sure theres room. Plenty of Int, Rec. Jnr spots. More later....

One more important thing. I only ordered 100 T-shirts because at that time, the max was 100 players. So, only the first 100 players will get a T-shirt. I apologize in advance if we fill up and a few folks don't get shirts. Might do a discounted entry fee or substitute something for those players packs.
Courses are shaping up nicely...We have had some late night rains so its doubtful Cal Young will get mowed again...though, its not bad to play on as it is. Will Hair is freshly mowed and looks pretty good. 2 more days!!

Yeah i took 4th it was ok but i wish it was a little better.I just took some really bad holes in a row on round 1 and 3 and that was at the hair course were there was OB every where. But the ob made it hard if there was no Ob it would still be a little hard.Yeah i had 5 circles in a row from the long tees at the start kinda.i went 44644 all circles(long tees). The first round i went 4464.But that was from the longs but still shouldnt be doing that kinda stuff. When it all came down to the end playing the shorts on my 1st and 3rd round. On my last 9 holes I got 7 out of 9 birdies. :D:DAnd i will be back to get revenge on that hole 7 :D:D:p :p
And good job to miles coming back to win this (back to back) and had fun watching the final 7.

Thanks to everyone that helped make this years Wild Hair a great success. Lots of the locals stepped up big time to get the course ready after the major storms Thrusday night. Gary Neal did a great job running the Will Hair course and my wife Misti ran Cal Young great! The Final 7 was a pretty good show too.
A big thanks goes out to Matt Smart and Discrazy. He donated a lot of great stuff for our raffle and helped us get the top Open prize to $300. All the statistics for the Budweiser Discrazy Series will be on www.discrazy.com (http://www.discrazy.com) soon.
Thanks to all the out of towners that came in...most were longtime friends, but several were new to the Wild Hair. I saw everyone walk away with smiles on their faces :D

It's great to see Miles come out to West Texas to play. We don't really get that many players out this way, it seems, from the other side of the state. So we really do appreciate it...even though I'm not from Abilene. Would be nice to see some more players from that way come this way....If you're interested in another FUN one Miles come check out the Crush next year(March) in San Angelo...Especially the random nightglow round Saturday night!!! Yes, back before wives, kids, and when gas prices were less than $1 many of us DFWers would make the trip. I could be dating myself but the event was known as Mr Big Putts Open and was played mostly on Cal Young's course, with a final 9 on the Will Hair course, no? The few years i went there was a decent open field of close to 25, consisting of Austin's best(Joel Kelly, Justin Landers, Lawhead, etc) along with Lubbock's/Amarillo's Best(Marcus, John :D) and DFW's best. Good times for sure!

Sorry John, (I'm assuming you're thinking about me) I never got to play the Mr. Big Putts Open even though I tried a time or 2. I was working in Abilene on the Air Base during that time but I could never make my schedules work to allow me the chance to participate. But thanks for the compliment ;)!

It's kind of looking like Cody Newton is going to be the TD next time around. That's why he's doing the Ace Race to get a feel for TDing. Carl says he wants to take at least a year off from it. I can't blame him...he's been doing it for 6 years now. Although like Misti did for you. Heather will be there so he can play as well as TD. Of course March is a long time away....so we'll see if that happens when the time comes. How did you like playing and TDing? To much, or no problem?
Oh, and I didn't mean that he was the only one...just that he was the "big name" open player. I mean look at the gallery for the final 7...Most everybody was following the group around. Not to take anything away from Marcace, Santos, or the rest of the open field as they are fun players to watch...But a lot of that buzzz was to watch him play.
I played a round with Gary, think we are going to hook up at an event up there next month at the Vet.

10-4 on the VPO, 3 times I think. Also I made several appearances at the Carrolton Charity Cup (When Tim W. was organizing it), with a couple of pretty decent placings in OPEN at the last 2 I attended. One of my not-so-fond memories was the last CCC when we got to town late Friday night and a lightning storm shut down both airports, causing all hotels to over-fill before we got there. We spent the night in the parking lot at Jimmy Porter Park in a Camaro that was packed too full to recline the seats . After a shower in the sink at IHOP Saturday morning things got better.

Thanks - Jerry I had a blast. You guys did a great job and it was cool to play Abilene for the first time. Didn't do well, but the courses were fun and both had their challanges. I really enjoyed Will Hair - Holes 7 and 8. Weather was nice and the wind was not bad at all. West Texas Golf I always expect LOTS of wind. I was really impressed with James 65 years old and whooped a fews guys (not to mention names) 20 years younger.
Enjoyed hanging out at Slix's Sat. night - those who didn't come missed out on a great time. Beer was cold and pool was cheap. See you in Amarillo - Top of Texas.

Yeah, after his first round...he was lights out after that. Shot 1 off the course record at Cal Young.
As far as playing and TD'ing...it wasnt too bad. However, my 2 main helpers were pretty experienced with behind-the-scenes tournament running. Thats the ONLY reason I played...I knew I could totally rely on them. I didnt have to worry about hardly anything because they knew and could anticipate what was happening, what needed to be done, etc. I would strongly suggest that whoever TD's the Crush not play. It will be their first real TD experience, a B-Tier, possibly 2 courses, maybe 100+ players. It was very beneficial to not play my first TD gig...get one under my belt first. Again, not going to tell you guys how to run your show...just my opinions.

I wouldn't take it that way Jerry. I asked....
I am in agreement, I think it would be to much for him to handle as well. That's why I said we'll see what happens, as I really don't see him playing and TDing both. It's gotta be a drain on your mental game if nothing else. I imagine with him just doing the ace race and playing he'll see that. But you never know...Honestly, when the time comes who know's Carl may not be able to turn loose of it. The Crush has always kind of been his baby!
Anyway great job this year Jerry(Misti ;) )!!!

Hehe...well, I usually feel I need to qualify my statements. I'm a big believer in over-communicating and apologizing for making you think I thought you were dumb rather than mis-communicationg or not communicationg. Big problems can start that way.
I think Carl is really going to turn it over this year. And why not...you guys have a strong club and a lot of folks that want to make things happen. Wish I could say the same thing here I mean, we have them...just not enough of them.
I dont see any reason why I wont be there in March. Carl told me that Debbie wants to learn the scoring routine...I will be happy to show her if she still wants to do that. As always, let me know how I can help.
