Boo masters!!
We need more in open!! Most of the masters are higher rated than me!!
Looking forward to coming down. Haven't played the course in years, so I will be there early Saturday morning walking through it.

Since I know Doc Gordon from when he was in DC school. I love his quote and urge him to come down and see if that holds true in the great state of Fla!
I would also think Greg will jump on over and mix it up in the open. Even more likely if 750 of the 1500 is in open.
Early favorite in open is Corey who shoot a nice -7 today from the longs {when I could only shoot -1}

this field is getting bigger and bigger!
man 16 open and 22 masters. 38 open sounds a lot better!
I sure hope most of that added cash is put in open, aka the most competitive division, like it should be.
Anyway, super excited to head down this weekend. One of my favorite things in a tournament is play with people I've never played with before. Only having played with 2 out of the other 15 open players before, it should be a blast for me!!

Jun 01 2008, 07:34 PM
Well... we haven't quite pinned down the percentage of the added cash for the open field, but it's looking like it will be between 65% and 70% of the total added cash. The remaining looks like it will be split by the number of players in each division... At this moment, Masters will be getting the largest chunk of the remaining cash.

And I'm not just saying that b/c I'm an open player. The most money should be in the toughest most competitive division. I even heard a masters player yesterday say that very thing!

Oh I bet!!
Most of them are better than me, hands down. Which brings me back to my first point...
we have people in a protected division BETTER than most of the people in the open and toughest division.
Doesn't make a lick of sense to me either.....
I'm just looking forward to putting some names with faces and a weekend in Florida!!
Obviously I want to shoot as well as I can, but my main point for coming this weekend is to see my grandparents.
Oh and by the way I have a buddy down in FL (James LeBaube) that has offered to let me put stuff in his car during the rounds (i.e. my water jug, my back up discs, etc) but hes not registered as of yet.
If he doesn't go I will need a volunteer for this (should be no problem, but I plan on arriving pretty early Saturday and walking the course).
More importantly, my flight is leaving at like 7:20 Sunday night. Still need a ride to the airport after the tournament. Even if James is there, he said it is 100% out of his way. Any volunteers to take me? Shoot me a PM if you can and thanks in advance!!

Jun 01 2008, 11:06 PM
MTL, I will be dropping off another golfer at the airport, but it will be a little early for your flight... I planed on dropping him off close to 5:15pm. If you are ok with getting to the airport that early, I will be glad to give you a ride.

Jun 01 2008, 11:11 PM
no worries at all!
I figured my flight was probably a tad late but there aren't many directly flights back to Raleigh (and this is one of them) and I wanted to ensure I got to the airport in time.
I do remember running through an airport after a tournament to catch a flight in Florida a few years back. So I kinda wanted to avoid that this time around :D

One last question....
I've been to the course once and I remember getting really lost.
I'll be coming from St. Augustine.
I need to get on 9A (like im going to the airport) and then take a right on Monument Road and then a left on Cobblestone?
Does this sound correct?
FloridaFlyer
Jun 02 2008, 09:39 AM
Yes!!!
Stay straight on Monument till you see the MCdonalds on the right which is at an intersection. Take the next left into the park. There is a sign that says Ed Austin regional park. Then wind all the way to the back of the park.

What's up guys? I'm excited about playing this weekend...48 holes on Saturday in 96 degree weather, there's nowhere I'd rather be! Seems like the local advanced players are all jumping up, perhaps I'll follow suit. If James doesn't show up I'll look like a real bagger. Anyway, thanks Jack for the place to stay. 119 pre-registered... that must be a recent record for the FFT.

Forecast is 88 now and 15mph winds. UV danger extreme.
On another note, check this out...
Last night I was playing with Climo and Daniel out at Cliff Stevens and we witnessed a shooting. We were walking from the teepad on hole #10 and we heard the shot to our right across the railroad tracks. We crept over to catch a peek and we saw a guy on the ground screaming and two other guys walking away towards us. Daniel went over to check it out and he recognized one of the guys walking away. They started running as soon as they were about a block away. Daniel had to talk to the police for like an hour and Kenny and I walked over and saw the guy who got shot. He got hit in his inner thigh, but he wasn't bleeding too bad.
It turns out the guy that got shot and the shooters were all 15 year olds. I may have had one of them in my 8th grade science class last year. I heard on the news today that the two kids we saw walking away were arrested, probably because Daniel recognized them and told the cops where they lived. A good example of why cities should appreciate disc golfers in their parks.

That's a great freakin' slogan Mike... it worked in Sarasota. Litterally our club keeps the park much cleaner and safer by working with the local home associations and law enforcement. I'm pretty sure I would have walked, or ran, in the other direction.... guns are bad, mmmmK.
Hey Mike, what's your plan for this weekend? Fab and I are planning to ride together, depart Friday around 1-2pm. Would it be possible to carpool? I know Fab spoke with Joe Kolenda, not sure what his plan is... anyway, I'm hopeful to rideshare with some good people. Sounds like Bonnie is staying in town for a B-day party. Also, where are you planning to stay?
I've heard the Weisen's can put us up... maybe Corey can ring in here. I'd be OK with some space in the backyard for my tent. Thanks!
Finally, any suggestions about travel from I-10? I plan to take 75N, 24 to 301N, 10E, to I suppose 295N to 9A south to Merrill Rd east. I'm guessing the Jax city traffic might get hectic on Friday afternoon. Any suggestions?

WOW...WOW...WOW... Just estimated the payouts for the 2008 Jacksonville Open... WOW... WOW... WOW... You know.. that original $750 added cash to the PROs.... we were off a bit... I'm not going to let the cat out of the bag until all the dust settles, but let's just say... We grossly underestimated our ability to raise Cash for this tournament!!!!
I will hint at one thing... Total Tournament Value, both AMs and PROs will be well over $10,000.
Those of you who missed out on this one... well... Just wait till you see what 1st Place Open takes home!!!

I'm very proud of how we are handling this year's tournament... it's a learning experience to say the least!!!
You know... you want to do your best to give the Pro's as much as possible... but with that being said, you need to keep the AM's happy as well... without them, there wouldn't be as much added cash as there is... so we are paying them out handsomely as well... not so much that we are taking away from the Pro purse... but they will be happy!!! I know if I were playing Am and I cashed... I would be happy.

almost except for the GM's the first round and the ties are showing as one player got more cash then the person they tied with. One in open and one in masters. Otherwise a mistake free event :D:D:D

Thanks again and after looking at the NT in KC it looks like it should have been the other way around with the larger master field as well as the payout. I seem to recall a meeting at the Mudville grille when you said you wanted to have an A tier. Never in my mind would I have thought you guys would have achieved this.
Well done and a big pat on the sunburned back;o]

You know... it's amazing what can be accomplished when you get a group of dedicated individuals together who share the same thoughts and goals.
The Jacksonville Open could be an A tier or even an NT event every year if we choose. However, giving to our charity and improving the image of disc golfers and RCDGA is more important at this time.
The one thing I can say is our tournament should be a testament to what can be accomplished with the PDGA's new endowment program for C tier tournaments.

Way to go RCDGA
The WDGC does the same for the Austin, TX area, charity wise anyways. This endowment program should be a good deal when they run the 32nd Waterloo DG Classic. Kudos to you guys for the effort and time put in and for a great tourney from the sounds of the players. Man that payout is awesome, the pros should be begging to get into next years event :)

Considering we filled up on Monday before the tourney, players better start signing up a month in advance next year.

This was definately the best ran tournament that I have ever played in, and looking forward to playing it next year no matter where I am. The AM's prises were the best I have seen also. Way to go RCDGA.

O.E. is working hard to get the next 9 in at Hanna Park. Right now it is only 9 holes with dual tee pads on all holes. Many of the holes play completely different from the alt. pads.
Hope to see you next year!
Sign up early!

The TD Report has been completed and submitted on 6/10/2008. 2008 Jax Open should be included in the ratings that come out at the end of this month... additionally, for those of you who are interested in the FFT, the scores and points have already been updated there as well.
