Neb. AG refuses to sue for immigrants' fair housing rights

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Anne Hobbs was angry. The head of the Nebraska Equal Opportunity Commission had just learned of a Hispanic couple who said their landlord asked for their driver's licenses - but didn't ask the same of non-Hispanic tenants.

Hobbs said it sounded like the couple were "treated differently than everybody else because of national origin," and sent the case to the state's top prosecutor, hoping he would sue on their behalf under fair housing laws.

When Attorney General Jon Bruning received the case, he was angry, too - for a different reason than Hobbs.

"I'm not going to use taxpayer dollars to file lawsuits for illegal aliens," said Bruning after learning the couple was in the U.S. illegally. "You're not going to get a free lawyer" from his office, he said, "if you're not a citizen of this country."

Border crackdown, US slowdown has Mexican migrants giving up sooner

http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/05/01/news/Mexico-Migrants-Giving-Up.php

SASABE, Mexico: The sandy streets of Sasabe are empty. Migrant smugglers have to hunt for business at border-town shelters. Deported migrants give up after one try, taking their government up on free bus rides home.

A U.S. crackdown is causing the longest and most significant drop in illegal migration from Mexico since the Sept. 11 attacks. Officials say the U.S. economic downturn, tighter security and a more perilous and expensive journey are persuading many who try to sneak into the U.S. to give up sooner.

Mexico draws dire picture for migrants
http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2008-04-21-mexico-comics_N.htm
MEXICO CITY One migrant gets his legs sliced off by a train's wheels. Another is shot by bandits on the Arizona border. Others are beaten and robbed by crooked Mexican police.

In a new effort to dissuade people from crossing the border illegally, Mexico's top human-rights agency has published two comic books packed with tales about the horrors that migrants may face. The tone is very different from previous government publications that focused more on travel and safety tips.

One of the two Migrantes comics is aimed at Mexicans, while the other focuses on Central Americans traveling through Mexico on their way to the USA. The National Human Rights Commission began distributing 20,000 of them this month at migrant shelters and bus terminals.

"We could have made the stories a little softer, but the (commission) asked us to be very realistic," said Domingo Perea, editorial director of Comics and Visual Arts, the firm hired to produce the comic books. "That was the intention, to discourage people from migrating."

In the past, several Mexican states have published booklets with advice for migrants. And in 2004, the Mexican Foreign Ministry published a comic-style Guide for the Mexican Migrant that offered safety tips for those attempting to cross the border, information on their legal rights and advice for living unobtrusively in the USA. That booklet outraged U.S. immigration-control groups, including the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which said the comic style and frank advice trivialized U.S. immigration laws.

Study: 25% of LA's Welfare Goes to Undocumented Immigrants

May 6, 2008, 5:42 AM PDT

L.A. County Supervisor Mike Antonovich says the county spends more than $1 billion a year on benefits to undocumented immigrants.

According to new data from the Department of Public Social Services, nearly twenty five percent of Los Angeles County 's welfare and food stamp benefits goes directly to the children of undocumented immigrants, at a cost of $36 million a month -- for a projected annual cost of $432 million.

"The total cost for illegal immigrants to County taxpayers far exceeds $1 billion a year - not including the millions of dollars for education," said Antonovich.

"With $220 million for public safety, $400 million for healthcare, and $432 million in welfare allocations, illegal immigration continues to have a devastating impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers."

The supervisor said, in March, undocumented immigrants collected over $19 million in welfare assistance and over $16 million in food stamp allocations.

When you get a chance, please check out this website/movie!

http://www.bordermovie.com/

I went and saw it last night and was a fundraiser for the imprisoned border patrol agents Ramos and Campeon.

I also had the saddned honor to meet both of the parents of the teenager who was recently killed in LA by an illegal alien. I got a chance to chat with both of them and will soon be blogging about the entire experience, along with my photos, on my myspace page. Their website is:

http://jamielshaw.org/

I have been quite vocal in the last 2 years or so about the issue of illegal aliens and am a proud member of both ALIPAC and Numbers USA. But before you judge me and call me a racist, let me just point out the fact that Ramos & Campeon are both Hispanic and Jamiel Shaw is African American...and I'm a little white girl. Race has *nothing* to do with the immigration issue in this country and I wish people would come up with a better argument to excuse their exploitation of people from other poor countries.

"I believe that the majority of Hispanics share our view that the border must be secured, and the border must be secured first," McCain said. "But they also want us to have an attitude, which I think most Americans do, that these are God's children and they must be taken care of, or the issue must be addressed, in a humane and compassionate fashion. And I will continue to carry that message with the priority that we must secure our borders first."

Hey, Sen. McCain, it is not JUST about the border.

It is about our government policies that welcome people who sneak in or overstay there visas.

We are not talking about going house to house looking for illegals, but we are talking about the RULE OF LAW.

In other words, follow the laws that are currently on the books.

NO AMNESTY for those that broke the law.

What I want to see is this

- end birthright citizenship- if both parents are illegal, so is the child.
- enforce laws on companies who hire illegals.
- no more government handouts as in welfare, WIC, food stamps or Medicare if you are not in this country legally.
- If you are pulled over or specially arrested for any reason [other than racial profiling] you should be deported with the option of taking your family with you.
- Pass ordinances like the one in Farmers Branch TX that has a landlord fill out a I-9 to establish residency.

You do not have to go on a witch hunt to stop the problem, just make it more difficult for them to work and live and they will leave. Just ask Oklahoma.

FYI...not one arrest or deportation has been made since the bill was passed over a year ago. Watch Rep. Terrill at the 4:50 mark in the video. He is asked if the will be an economic ripple effect from his bill to which he replies "uhh...I don't think so." This shortsightedness is typical of those who carry a staunch, no amnesty type of view on immigration reform.

Well, Terrill is at it again.
Read about his new bill here. (http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?subjectID=12&amp;articleID=20080506_1_A1_ hItco56181)

Rep. Terrell refers to the problems with his bill as a loophole when in actuality it is called a Constituional Amendment. Wait a minute the article states that it would make it more difficult for hispanics to pay taxes...why would we want that.

The most important issue in this video is addressed by the Secretary of Commerce. He states, that in order to ablolish illegal immigration we would need to accept lower economic growth, no economic growth, or a decline in our economy.

Now who are you going to believe, the Secretary of Commerce, or a state senator fom Ok who can't even propose bills that are constitutional?

"uhh...I don't think so" send this guy over to Cali if it is so bad over there, we can do without him!

At least 3 wins for the Pro LEGAL Immigration folks in Texas

1st, the guy who sponsored the bill that made national headlines in Farmers Branch won the Mayor slot with over 2/3rds of the vote.

In Carrollton, Ron Branson edged out Mayor Becky Miller to become the main man, all City Council members I talked with tonight were releaved, now they can get something done,

And the last time I checked, the Mayor of Irving was ahead with 53% of the vote for re-election, he is the Mayor who put Irving on the map by arresting and deporting all illegals that get pulled over for traffic stops.

The people are speaking, we want legal immigration, we no longer want to deal with illegal immigration.

The Proof is in! Majority of Americans oppose "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" Amnesty!

May 8, 2008

by William Gheen
Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC)

We painfully watch as a few designer polls, that falsely claim a majority of Americans support "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" or a "path to citizenship" for illegal aliens currently in the US, get a great deal of press in the print media. The large volume of polls that contradict this claim get little coverage in the media.

But now the proof is truly in, and I hope many will join with me in daring Congress to take up "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" in 2008. Come on Congress, make my day!

The reason this unpopular legislation failed last year and the reason Congress is reluctant to take the issue up during an election year is they know the truth is a majority of American reject changing the current laws to allow illegal aliens to stay in the US.

If the propaganda coming out of the mouths of open borders fanatics like Rep. Joe Baca, (D-CA) or Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) were true, then members of Congress would be rushing to bring the legislation to the floor and eager to campaign on it in the 2008 elections. The fact that members of Congress do not want to address the legislation or campaign on it is proof that a majority of Americans reject the legislation.

Furthermore, if a majority of Americans really favored "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" amnesty, then why have 35 states passed immigration enforcement only legislation over the first few months in 2008? Why would Michigan, Oregon, and Maine cut off licenses to illegal aliens?

While a small group of states have passed a very small volume of bills to assist illegal aliens, the trend is clear that 95% of the legislation is designed to detect and arrest illegal aliens, push them out of jobs, and stop them from driving or receiving taxpayer benefits!

According to today's article by Patricia Zapor titled 'States take up immigration bills; Congress stays on sidelines' state legislators have considered more than 1,100 bills already in 2008 and the vast majority are for enforcement and lacking the benefits described in the DC bills calling for reform.

This is because most of our state legislators know what the public wants and are responding with enforcement bills.

So we can see that the massive trend towards enforcement only laws passed by states during an election year, combined with Congress trying to pretend the bills don't exist are proof that the public mandate rejects "Comprehensive Immigration Reform"

In closing, I want to point out that we have hundreds of polls showing that nearly 80% of Americans want the borders secured, local police enforcing immigration laws, no licenses for illegal aliens, no taxpayer benefits for illegal aliens, and businesses that hire illegal aliens to be punished.

The "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" bills supported by Baca, Gutierrez, McCain, Kennedy, Graham, Martinez, Clinton, Obama etc. would override all of the existing laws, which are supported by the public in these polls. It is insanity to believe the fake assertion that 80% of Americans oppose licenses for illegal aliens, but would support a bill in Washington that would give them all licenses. Are we to believe that 80% of Americans want local police to enforce immigration laws, but not on the 12-20 million illegal aliens in the US after Comprehensive Immigration Reform passed? By what stretch of the imagination should anyone believe that 80% of Americans do not want taxpayer benefits going to illegal aliens but it would be OK to give them taxpayer benefits after they paid a small fine and signed up for a new ID under Comprehensive Immigration Reform?

The truth is that the overwhelming evidence proves that a super majority of Americans oppose Comprehensive Immigration Reform, Guest Worker Program, Temporary Worker Program, Path to Citizenship, etc... That is why the supporters of amnesty have to keep changing the name!

A majority of Americans support the enforcement of our existing immigration laws only, which results in illegal aliens returning home on their own or with government assistance.

Any lawmaker, candidate, reporter, activist, or organization that supports the current lack of enforcement of the existing laws, or supports the overthrow of these laws by passage of new legislation, which a majority of Americans oppose, is a traitor to the American republic and an enemy of the citizens of the United States.

"We The People of the United States" will hold each of you accountable for the lost American jobs, tax monies, and lives suffered because of your agenda. We will hold you accountable for attempting to overthrow our Republic for which our flag stands, destroying the self governance of our citizenry, and subjugating the American majority by depriving us of the power to decide policy in our own nation at the behest of Global corporations.

Column on the other side of the immigration issue. (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/steffy/5793519.html)

They may be illegal but we still need them

By LOREN STEFFY
Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle

The market is telling us something that many of us don't want to hear.

It whispers it in the numbers that filter, largely overlooked, through the immigration debate. Consider the most basic: In Texas, we have an estimated 1.1 million undocumented workers, compared with 450,000 people listed as unemployed.

Even if every unemployed Texan had a job, we still wouldn't have enough people to meet the labor demand, even if we sent all the illegal immigrants home.

Nationally, we face a narrower gap but the same situation about 8.1 million illegal immigrants and about 7.5 million unemployed workers.

So we can build fences, step up patrols, get tough on deportations and decry the social and economic costs of illegal immigration, but we can't escape the market's message: We need them.

"They're filling a gap in the work force," Waco economist Ray Perryman said.

Filling in for boomers
As the baby boomers retire, there simply aren't enough eligible workers to do unskilled jobs.

Perryman's research firm on Monday released an economic study that attempts to blunt the blaring blather of talk radio and other anti-immigrant fear-baiting.

Backed by the Greater Houston Partnership and the affiliated Americans for Immigration Reform, business leaders are hoping the study will change the debate to focus on economics, the underlying issue that's driving illegal immigration.

"There's been a lot of heat but not very much light," said Charles Foster, an immigration attorney and AIR chairman. "You just hear this simplistic talk about building walls and 'what part of illegal do you not understand.' "

The immigration may be illegal, but the persistence shows that our laws are flawed, that they fail to recognize our economy's need for cheap labor.

Staggering consequences
Shutting down illegal immigration and deporting the undocumented workers who are here would have immediate and staggering consequences for our already battered economy.

Illegal immigrants contribute almost $652 billion annually to the U.S. gross domestic product, Perryman said. Removing them would eliminate almost $1.8 trillion in annual spending from our economy.

That isn't a gap that can be remedied with government stimulus checks or other political gimmicks.

For months now economists have debated whether we are in a recession or just a severe slowdown, yet unemployment remains at a stunningly low 5 percent.

Those numbers tell us that illegal immigration is a market response to a labor shortage.

Getting smarter
Nor is the labor gap going to get smaller. As the population ages, demand for unskilled workers will continue to rise. As a work force, though, we're not just getting older, we're getting smarter.

In 1960, 50 percent of all men in the U.S. took low-skill jobs without completing high school, Perryman found. The number is now less than 10 percent.

To make up for the loss of unskilled workers in the country illegally, we'd have to draw better-educated workers into less skilled jobs.

"We'd have to raise wages a lot, which is inefficient and bad for the economy," Perryman said.

Significantly higher wages, of course, mean higher prices, which affect living standards and ultimately put a damper on economic growth.

That's bad in the best economy, but given the current prospect of a possible recession and the looming threat of mounting inflation, we can't afford the short-sighted immigration policies that favor enforcement at all costs.

At the same time, some of the cost concerns about immigration are valid. While undocumented workers pay more in taxes than they receive in benefits overall, they tend to pay most of their taxes at the federal level and claim benefits locally putting a disproportionate burden on local governments, schools, hospitals and social services.

Not keeping pace
There are, of course, legal avenues for immigration, but the market is telling us those policies aren't working. The legal immigration process simply can't keep pace with the mounting labor demand.

So we need changes in the law that recognize the revenue disparities and give the government some control over the flow of immigration without undermining the economic benefit.

We can't deny what the market is telling us. We may not want to admit it, but 8 million people aren't coming here for the health care.

They're coming here because we need them.

Nice to see that you missed the point that the legal workforce is smarter now and are waiting for the higher-paying jobs, while ignoring the lower-paying jobs (ie, those jobs filled by illegals). And to make the lower jobs more appealing, you have to raise wages.

Yes, I read the article and noticed more than what I posted

In Texas, we have an estimated 1.1 million undocumented workers

1.1 million ILLEGAL workers in Texas, why so many and why is NOTHING being done about it. Every one of those employers should be fined or maybe even shut down.

Even if every unemployed Texan had a job, we still wouldn't have enough people to meet the labor demand, even if we sent all the illegal immigrants home.

Simple solution that the Pro LEGAL immigration people are saying, if we didn't have so many illegal immigrants here, we could increase the number of Visa's.

BTW, did you realize the H-2A visa allow for unlimited temporary workers for the Farmers in the USA.

So we can build fences, step up patrols, get tough on deportations and decry the social and economic costs of illegal immigration, but we can't escape the market's message: We need them.

Sure, we need people sneaking over the border like we need a hole in our head.

the study will change the debate to focus on economics, the underlying issue that's driving illegal immigration.

ooh, a statement we can agree on. It is economics that is the underlying issue.

Illegal immigrants contribute almost $652 billion annually to the U.S. gross domestic product, Perryman said. Removing them would eliminate almost $1.8 trillion in annual spending from our economy.

wow, and where do you come up with those numbers, your [censored]
In 2006, it was estimated the immigrants sent 45 Billion home (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/18/AR2006101801756.html)

What the article does not say is how much illegal immigration costs the rest of us. Those numbers are rather large two.

I think it would be about a wash when you send illegals home and allow more LEGAL immigrants in that are hired LEGALLY and pay there taxes like the rest of us.

1.1 million illegal workers in Texas.
~0.5 million legal unemployed in Texas.
The welfare folks are accounted for, either in the employed or unemployed numbers.

Even if they all were unemployed, over half a million jobs would still be unfilled, just in Texas.

Details of the Senate AgJobs Amnesty:

* Grants a 5-year amnesty to up 1.35 million agriculture workers. There is no indication of what will happen after the 5-year visa runs out.
* Allows spouses and children to receive the amnesty, upping the number to at least 3 million.
* Triples the maximum number of H-2B visas for lower skill, non-agriculture seasonal workers.

We already have an H-2A temporary seasonal worker program, which has no limit to the number of workers farmers can import. We don't need an amnesty to legalize millions of low-skilled workers and their families.

Oppose the Illegal Immigrant Amnesty Rider to War Supplemental Bill H.R.2642

The Senate Appropriations Committee unexpectedly took up and approved last Thursday an amendment that would for practical purposes grant many illegal immigrants amnesty. The amendment was offered by Diane Feinstein (D-CA) and Larry Craig (R-ID) to the Senate version of the war supplemental spending bill, H.R.2642. (See: Feinstein's Press Release)

On Tuesday, May 20th, the full Senate will begin debate on the war supplemental bill. A hurried vote is possible by the end of the week before the Memorial Day recess. The Feinstein/Craig rider would allow a de facto amnesty for around 1.3 million illegal immigrant agricultural workers (plus their families).

Some Senators claim that the U.S. will fail to harvest its crops and feed the world this year without an amnesty for illegal aliens. The same claim was made in each of the last four years and related amnesty proposals were stopped, because the American people voiced their outrage.

Due to the possibility of a rushed vote in the Senate we believe calling your Senator would be more effective than just e-mailing. Please do everything you can to enlist others to fight the Feinstein/Craig amendment to the war supplemental bill. Remember, it was a rider to a previous must-pass emergency supplemental bill that foisted REAL ID upon America. Demand that the Feinstein/Craig "Emergency Agricultural Relief Act" be removed from the war supplemental bill.

I'm with you on the amount of "taxes" they pay and the amount of money sent out of the USA. Most are paid cash under the table so they pay NO taxes. And everything they make is sent back to wherever it is they came from!!!!!! And meanwhile US citizens' taxes go up and up and up so we can give these demanding freeloaders all they're demanding! It's so unfair and I can't believe people are actually AGAINST LEGAL IMMIGRATION! I get the ones who are using them for cheap labor and exploiting them - which is wrong too - but the rest of you -- please explain WHY it is you're fighting LEGAL IMMIGRATION??? I just don't get that.

Side Note: Get rid of welfare, and Americans will have to work those jobs to provide for themselves and their families. There are too many people getting a free ride in this country at the expense of the rest of us.

Again:
1.1 million illegal workers in Texas.
~0.5 million legal unemployed in Texas.
The welfare folks are accounted for, either in the employed or unemployed numbers.

Even if they all were unemployed, over half a million jobs would still be unfilled, just in Texas.

Unless you suggest relocation of all the nation's unemployed to try to balance it out, <font color="red">comrade</font>.

Percent of Texans below poverty level: 16.6%
Percent of Texas Children below poverty level: 9%
Percent of Texas non-Children (adults) below poverty level: 7.6%
Population of Texas (2006): 23,507,783
Number of Texas adults below poverty level: 23,507,783*.076 = 1,786,591 (rounded down)
That's where you get your workers from, with people to spare.

Just because they are below the poverty level, doesn't mean they're not working.

Not to be a pain, but if only 9% of Texas children are below the poverty line, and 7.6% of non-children are below the poverty line, how on earth is 16.6% of the total population below the poverty line?

btw, Acting as if everyone on welfare is getting some free ride is an argument that honest debaters abandoned in the nineties. Remember Newt and welfare reform? Probably not; it's easier to demonize. This is an immigration debate after all.

I don't remember what Newt's plan was, but welfare does need to be reformed. I'm not demonizing. Why should people that work have to pay for those that don't? Some people may need welfare (arguably), but I would surmise that for every one person that needs it, there are 8 people just abusing the system. I have an aunt (in-law) that works undercover for a mid-west state welfare agency and her job, year round, is to find abusers. She is part of a very large team to find these people and they catch a very small percentage of abusers.

So, 91% of those below the poverty line are adults?

An explanation: if 16% of the total population is below poverty, it is impossible for both of the total population subsets to be below 16%.

Welfare has been reformed, people aren't living on the dole as much as they used too, and certainly not forever. Therefore, blaming everything on welfare recipients isn't as effective as it used to be.

So he saying we are lucky we are born here. He says people need to abide by the laws, yet he does not count sneaking in this country or overstaying visas as illegal.

He is somewhat right about those that hire illegal aliens.

He is also right about the fine line of being racist and wanting people to inter the USA legally. One problem with the Pro Legal Immigration movement is that there are racists involved. The difference is the racist does not want any immigrant. They are a small minority of the movement.

Illegal aliens mean no workers' comp claims, no age, race or sex discrimination lawsuits, no healthcare premiums, no unions, and no demands for raises, vacations or bigger offices. In fact, illegal immigrants are the perfect employees because they're not employees at all; they're corporate slaves.

Oh, I forgot to mention this, yesterday the City of Farmers Branch city code got struck down by a judge on the grounds it was unconstitutional.

The Mayor, Tim O'Haira said that the city will change the code and re-vote on it to reflect the problem. The problem was how the code defined illegal aliens did not match the way the federal government defines them. Simple change to fix the code.

During the last 18 months, the Pomona Police Department had impounded his 1989 Chevy Malibu three times because Gilberto,..... does not have a drivers license. An undocumented worker, he is constantly fearful of being harassed by the authorities.

"Every time they pull me over without a drivers license, it costs $1,500 to get my car back," said Gilberto

DUH

... the so-called sobriety checkpoints are death traps for hard-working immigrants.

They target undocumented workers who are forced to drive without a license because of their legal status in the country

I love it, they are forced.

Many in the crowd were appreciative of the demands for unconditional amnesty, an immediate end to raids and deportations, free access to quality health care and education, and a minimum $15 per hour wage for all workers regardless of their immigration status.

This is what the group is demanding from us.

OUTRAGE OF THE WEEK

U.N. Sends Mexican Nationalist to Investigate Prince William County, VA

You won't believe this! After a group called "Mexicanos Sin Fronteras" (Mexican without borders) complained about Prince William County's common-sense measures against illegal aliens, the United Nations decided to send their special rapporteur on "migrants' rights" to investigate the town!

Whom are they sending? A complete open-borders globalist named Jorge Bustamante. This cat has explicitly claimed that the United States should not have authority to unilaterally enact ?oue? own immigration laws! Last year, he called on Mexicans to boycott companies that support Republican candidates.

Prince William County Chairman Corey Stewart is having nothing of it, responding "[The U.N. has] a history of trying to embarrass the United States while turning a blind eye to the regimes that are actually not just committing human-rights abuses, but engaged in genocide."

If there's a silver lining to this outrage, it is that it will help wake up Americans to the fact that the attack on our immigration laws is a direct attack to our sovereignty.

Ok, a court ruled against 2 sections of the immigration laws of OK.

The sections would require employers to verify employees' legal status before being eligible for state contracts. The other would require businesses to verify the status of individual independent contractors to avoid state tax penalties.

Oklahoma State leaders mull appeal of ruling on immigration law (http://www.tulsaworld.com:80/news/article.aspx?articleID=20080606_16_A11_spancl65993 )

At the same time, Bush signs this executive order.

policy of contracting only with providers that do not knowingly employ unauthorized alien workers and that have agreed to utilize an electronic employment verification system designated by the Secretary of Homeland Security to confirm the employment eligibility of their workforce will promote economy and efficiency in Federal procurement.

Federal contractors must 'E-Verify' employees' eligibility to work (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2008/06/20080609-2.html)

This case will be thrown out on appeal, even the article says that.

This new fax has been posted in your Action Buffet based on your answers to the Interest Survey.

The Birthright Citizenship Act of 2007 (H.R. 1940) would eliminate birthright citizenship for the children born to illegal aliens in the United States by limiting the granting of such citizenship to the children of: (1) U.S. citizens or nationals; (2) lawful permanent resident aliens residing in the United States; and (3) aliens performing active service in the armed forces.

Click here for our NumbersUSA pages on Birthright Citizenship.
<font color="red">
Referred to as "anchor babies," these children born in the United States are one of the most prominent factors of excessive population expansion and illegal immigration. Some 380,000 children are born in the United States each year to illegal-alien mothers, according to U.S. Census data. They are called anchor babies because, as U.S. citizens, they become eligible to sponsor for legal immigration most of their relatives, including their illegal-alien mothers, when they turn 21 years of age, thus becoming the U.S. "anchor" for an extended immigrant family.

Thousands of pregnant women who are about to deliver come to the United States each year from countries as far away as South Korea and as near as Mexico so that they can give birth on U.S. soil. Some come legally as temporary visitors; others enter illegally. Once the child is born, they get a U.S. birth certificate and passport for the child, and their future link to this country is established and irreversible.</font>

After all the crap Perry has been trying to do, he can still do something right every once in a while.

Texas to World Court: Execution still on!

Texas is refusing to bow to the World Court order to stay the Aug. 5 lethal injection of convicted rapist-killer and illegal alien Jose Medellin. The highest U.N. court insisted that five scheduled executions of Mexicans be immediately halted until the cases undergo further review. Mexico's government filed a petition with the court last month because it said the men had been deprived of assistance from their consulates following their arrests. According to Geneva Convention rules, illegal aliens must have access to their national consulates once they have been detained.

The U.N. court order echoes statements made by Mexico that "Texas has made clear that unless restrained, it will go forward with the execution without providing Mr. Medellin the mandated review and reconsideration," which will "irreparably" violate U.S. obligations to the World Court's 2004 directive, the Houston Chronicle reported. Citing "the paramount interest in human life," Mexico said it would "forever be deprived of the opportunity to vindicate its rights and those of the nationals concerned" if Medellin's execution continues as scheduled.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry's office rejected Mexico's complaint. "The world court has no standing in Texas, and Texas is not bound by a ruling or edict from a foreign court," Perry spokesman Robert Black said. "It is easy to get caught up in discussions of international law and justice and treaties. It's very important to remember that these individuals are on death row for killing our citizens."

The issue:

'Border Agents: Ramos &amp; Compean'

What the liberal whiners say:

1. 'They were rogue cops, who shot an unarmed man in the butt'
2. 'They didn't report the shooting, and made the crime worse by disposing of the shell casings'
3. 'Hey, they were convicted by a jury of their peers'
4. 'The only ones who believe these guys are racist talk radio hosts

Your winning, logical, reasoned arguments:

1. Rogue cops? Ignacio Ramos had been nominated for "Border Agent of the Year" in 2005. Joe Compean, in addition to serving his country in the border patrol, also served honorably in the Navy. There was nothing "rogue" about either one of these agents. As for shooting an "unarmed" man in the back; the only one who says he was unarmed was the drug dealer (Aldrete-Davila) himself, and the prosecutors who gave him immunity to testify. Ramos and Compean maintain to this day, that they saw something shiny in his hand as he turned and pointed toward them. Do you believe a drug cartel mule, who'd been smuggling drugs since he was 14, or two men who'd devoted their lives to protecting their country?

2. The fact that they didn't report the shooting is often cited by U.S. Attorney, Johnny Sutton and repeated often in the press. However, filing a written report is NOT required, and there were 15 agents, including three supervisors on the scene by the end of the incident. It was well known to their supervisors. The disposing of the shell casings was a departmental problem...NOT a crime. A suspension or even dismissal from their positions should have been the harshest punishment they faced; not 11 &amp; 12 YEARS in Federal Prison. No one even KNEW that the illegal alien smuggler had been hit by their fire.

3. Yes, a jury of peers who was told that drug smuggler Aldrete-Davila had never done such a thing before. He was simply trying to raise $2000 for surgery his mother needed, and he didn't even know what he was delivering. The prosecution knew this was a lie, and in fact, after having been given immunity for the drug bust to testify, plus free medical care and unlimited passes across the border, he was caught not once, but TWICE more...with drug loads totaling about a ton. Knowing this, and encouraging him to testify of these lies, the prosecution was guilty of suborning purjury. The witness had NO credibility, and the jury was lied to.

4. It's interesting that so many who hate the Bush Administration and everything it does, including firing eight U.S. Attorneys for political reasons, would now side with that same Bush Justice Department against two Hispanic Americans. Pasty white U.S. Attorney, Johnny Sutton, and his group of Casper the friendly ghost prosecutorial team, viciously went after two Hispanic law enforcement agents, using a gun charge in the commission of a crime statute to force mandatory 10 year federal sentences in this case...but the talk hosts who are fighting so vigorously for these Hispanic agents are somehow racist? Can you explain that to me?

I just got an email about this. Apparently, back in July, a lady applied for a job at Trinity Medical Center by my house (I can see it from my front yard) In doing the background check, they found that he SS# was not hers.

So they contacted the Carrollton Police Department for Identity theft.

Well guess what, then she showed back up for her interview, the Carrollton Police were waiting for her.

It turns out she was in the USA illegally and was held for deportation.

So lets see, 1st, the enters the USA illegally, breaking Federal Law. 2nd, she commits identity theft by giving a false SS# to an employer.

Then read this article in the Dallas Morning News from Sunday

Point of Contact: Carlos Quintanilla of Accin America

12:00 AM CDT on Sunday, August 17, 2008

Our Q&amp;A with Carlos Quintanilla, president of Accin America. His immigrant-advocacy group plans a protest at Trinity Medical Center in Carrollton over the arrest of Mara Martnez, suspected to be an illegal immigrant and accused of submitting a false Social Security number with her job application.

Why the protest?

If you look at almost every major hospital in the Dallas metroplex and almost every single employer, they have opted not to take an aggressive position regarding the same situation as Mara Martnez faced. Trinity ... took it a step further and said: We're going to file criminal charges and call a detective in Carrollton. They arrest this woman for tampering with government documents. ...

Why did they act so aggressive? Was it necessary for them to take the action that they took against this woman? Was she really a threat to public safety, as they have claimed? ... [She] simply presented a document that has been presented for 20 or 30 years without any cause, without any problems. And if we're to look at most companies, you'd find there's a significant number that close their eyes and ignore the question of false documents.

Shouldn't employers abide by the law?

They took it a step further by participating in the entrapment of this woman. They could've just said: Hey, we're not going to hire you. Your documents are no good. And that's it.

Are hospitals in a class by themselves regarding immigrants?

Hospitals are safe zones. She was applying at a Luby's restaurant inside a hospital. ... This is a dysfunctional policy that needs to be uniform, fair and equitable. It can't be disparate. It can't be where one hospital says "yes" and another says "no."

Then where does Accin America stand regarding enforcement of the law?

We have never said, "Give protection to immigrants who have committed criminal offenses." We have never said there should be no protection of the borders. What we have always said is that it [immigration enforcement] should be fair and equal."

GOP lawmakers question Texas AG on immigration issues (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/texassouthwest/stories/DN-immig_20tex.ART.State.Edition1.4d758a0.html)

A few of the important quotes from the article.

On Tuesday, Rep. Frank Corte, R-San Antonio, and Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston, asked Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott if the state could legally yank the business licenses of employers who hire illegal workers, hinting that such strong sanctions already enacted in Arizona could find support in the GOP-controlled Texas Legislature.

They also asked if they're allowed to ban cities from enacting "sanctuary" ordinances that prohibit city workers, including police, from enforcing immigration laws as Fort Worth and Austin have done.

The two questions are a warning shot to immigration advocates and the business community about where some of the hot spots of the debate will be.

Talk from several of the State Senators and House members I have talked to from my area have stated this will be a big issue this coming year.

Pelosi triggers battle over possible end to worksite raids - - House Speaker Pelosi has touched off a new round of fighting over whether the Homeland Security Department should continue to stage controversial raids of worksites around the country. That may foreshadow a dispute that could move front and center when the new Congress convenes in January. Pelosi indicated at a news conference Wednesday that she supports an end to worksite enforcement operations nationwide by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which is part of the Homeland Security Department. She said the urgency of putting together comprehensive immigration reform legislation has been intensified by the raids. "How do we end the ICE raids, have a situation where we can end the ICE raids as we put together the comprehensive immigration reform?" she asked. She did not offer a timeline for the Democratic-led Congress to take up comprehensive immigration legislation. In response to additional questions, a Pelosi spokesman said the speaker has long expressed concerns that the Raids are ineffective and "unnecessarily divide families at the expense of children." The aide added: "As the speaker clearly stated during her press conference last week, she supports a bipartisan solution that protects our borders, enforces our laws, unites families and creates a path to legalization." But such comments already have come under fire by Republican lawmakers who believe worksite enforcement actions are a valuable tool to dissuade employers from hiring illegal workers. "The last thing we should be talking about is ending ICE raids. We need more enforcement, not less," said House Homeland Security ranking member Peter King. House Judiciary ranking member Lamar Smith also weighed in. "Instead of criticizing, the Speaker should be commending ICE for protecting American jobs by ensuring that they don't go to illegal immigrants, targeting identity thieves and holding employers accountable," Smith said. "I'm troubled that the speaker seems to be more concerned with the welfare of illegal immigrants than of the U.S. citizens who have to compete against them for jobs." Paulson cancels key part of financial bailout (http://www.latimes.com/news/la-fi-paulson13-2008nov13,0,5499071.story?track=rss)

But it is not what you think, it may be even worse

BTW, I heard on the radio that Citibank and other large banks have been NOT been opening up the credit markets, but using the cash from the FED to buy up smaller banks and there assets.

I tried to get an employee back from Argentina 2 years ago, it was too hard for me to invest all the time and money to fulfill the requirements for the H-B1 visa. Rico was the best manager and employee I have ever had.

However, this is one of the problems right now with the LEGAL Immigration system we have. If our High Tech jobs are not moving over seas, they are bringing them here to work for peanuts. Ask anyone in the Tech field and they will tell you this. (please post your response)

In the hard economic times we are about to hit, the last thing we need is increasing the amount of HB-1 visas. These go to mostly high tech jobs. So if your job did not get outsourced overeseas, your company may bring someone in to replace you. (it is not quite that simple)

One of the problem with following politics is you get [censored] off when you see stupid stuff.

U.S. jury finds rancher liable in vigilante trial (http://www.reuters.com/article/domesticNews/idUSTRE51H13820090218) &lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;Are you a vigilante when you are protecting your property???

So the guy catches Illegal boarder crossers and holds them for Boarder patrol and he get sued?????

Is it NOT his property????

Were they not TRESPASSING??????

Were these people NOT breaking the Law by Smuggling themselves into the US???????

This is totally STUPID.

A court fined him $100K a few years ago for the same thing.

Maybe he should just start shooting them :D

Interesting, if you read the last article, now read this one.

Jury: Rancher didn't violate illegal immigrants' rights (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/hotstories/6267853.html)

The other article did not mention how many of the charges were thrown out or that the damages were reduced drastically from what they were seeking.

Illegal immigrants go free; some offered work permits (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/politics/2008959099_raid01m0.html?syndication=rss)

This makes me sick to my stomach. The only good thing I saw in this article is that they may start cracking down on employers. I actually agree with that.

Well, the Senate is about to tackle the Immigration issue again.

I will support any legislation that includes

A)makes it easier for employers to verify employee (ie E-Verify that is currently set to expire in September)

B)does not grant Amnesty

C)Increases the number of Visa's, as long as they are given to immigrants who came here legally.

D)increases the fines on employers who knowingly hire illegals. (I also favor the Texas bill that pulls the business license for companies who knowingly hire illegals)

Do I think we need something like the Eisenhower 1954 "Operation Wetback"? NO, I don't think we should go door to door looking for illegals.

However, those that overstay there Visa's, those that are arrested (or even pulled over) and are illegal, and those that are caught working illegally should be deported.

The only Amnesty I want to see is letting people move back to there country of origin without harassment. (in other words, deport themselves)

We need another H.J.RES.46 (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/D?d110:4:./temp/%7Ebdjg9r::%7C/bss/d110query.html%7C) in this session and really do need to end the Anchor babies. The law needs to be change so that only kids born to legal immigrants can gain American Citizenship.
