11A - Anhyzer shot from temp tee about 300'

11C - Shot over water from one of two peninsulas. Rec/Intermediate from front peninsula, must carry about 80 feet to get across.
Long box from the far peninsula for advanced and pro, must carry about 200 feet. Drop zone from the fairway if your drive is wet.
11D - short tight hole from the permanent tee box back in the woods with the basket just outside the thicket, about 180'.

TD Keith "Big Bird" Baker will be at hole 5, not at the front of the park. Follow Cibolo Trail to rear parking area.

Current player count: 57

Space available now but remember division caps:
Rec/Int - 60
Advanced - 60
Pro - 60

There's a good possibility we will have a newspaper article hitting midweek next week, and if it happens, I expect to get a bunch of last minute entries. Don't wait!

Still taking reservations for all divisions. PM me your name, PDGA#, and division and we'll hold your spot.

And what holes will comprise each of the two Live Oak courses?

Lake Course:

6,7,8,9,10,11,11A,11B,11C*,11D,11E,12,14,15,15A,15 B*,15C,28

City Hall:

16,17*,17A,17B,18,19,20,21,22,23*,23A,23B,23C,23D, 24*,25*,26,27

* Short tees for Int/Rec

Played 11A, 11C*, & 11E and walked 11B & 11D. They look great, they are mowed very well, and it is completely dry back there. Hole 11C is going to be sweet to watch. Should get a video camera out there to watch the drives. Should be some sweet ones over the water. IMO 11C it is now the best hole on the course!

james_mccaine
Jun 27 2008, 11:13 AM
Could someone fill me in on these extra holes: 11A-E and 15 A and B?

I'll describe the hole and you tell me the number:

After 11. straight shot, probably 500', fence on left - Assume 11A.

Shot over water, basket on peninsula - assume 11B

Long dogleg right probably 600 feet

Some where back in the woods near 15, there are three holes: a cool dogleg right after a straight shot; the cheezy short hole that should have a mando, but everyone throws up high and to the right; and the 270ish hole with two routes and cacti near the pin.

btw, why not just renumber the whole course, and end some of the confusion?

DISConnected
Jun 27 2008, 11:40 AM
Old 11A - The fence was moved too far into the fairway, encroaching on the 500' hole.
New 11A - 320' anhyzer (RHBH)

11B - temp hole, 210' pretty straight, narrow fairway

11C - lake shot, tees on 2 peninsulas. This tee used to sit back about 200' from the water.

11D - long dogleg right from teebox back in the woods. For LOSO this will be a short and narrow hole from same box to basket just outside the thicket.

11E - same long dogleg with a shorter tee box, about 420'

back in the woods near 15:

15A is the 270ish with cactus
15B is the long dogleg right
15C is the old "clowns mouth" but now we play it with no mando.

Renumbering...maybe someday! Hope that helps.

Two options ... one is to throw to the right ... but I would call it much of a bailout area ... it is closely guarded by the construction fence which I assume is OB. Second option would be to lay up on the 1st penninsula which is about 15 feet wide :)

Just reserved a spot. I'm stoked to make this one (the wife finally gave me the green light today).

So are the courses gonna suck playing blind? I plan on getting a few rounds in on friday, but i don't know how much I'll wanna play after a 5 hour drive.

Anywhere online that has pics of the holes or course maps. it'd be nice to know what I'm getting myself into.

Super_D_Style
Jul 03 2008, 01:37 AM
If you never played this course then I would suggest that you bring your entire bag cause you are going to need every shot in the bag. This course has shots you have never seen before. There are some birdie holes that are self explainatory but far more signature holes. I like to throw rollers sometimes because par is just fine for me.

The course is so diverse so you will see a little bit of everything. Thread the needle, over water, hooks and over hills. Just remember to bring your ROC!

Safety is the biggest reason. You have to tee off almost in 12's fairway and even with the mando there is the chance of hitting people on 14's tee pad.

What's the deal with MA2 just playing 3 rounds? I don't like Universal City but why not throw it in for the final round? Just an idea. Better than sitting around waiting for the rest of the field.

So how many tournaments can say the Mayor of the City is playing? Well Live Oak can! Go Mayor Painter!

Lots of newer players like to get out and watch the top pros.

I can dig the aspect of watching the pros, but I would think the MA1 division would be just as interested in seeing what the pros have that they don't. More golf the better for all divisions is my vote.

I don't mind 3 rounds at a quality tourney where there's pros that I actually wanna see play. I'm about to begin my 5+ hour trek over there from east texas. Can't wait, see you all there!

Enjoy the foreplay(the drive from East Texas) as you get closer to Live Oak. I guess I'll just have to bring my Video Camera and film the pro's top card on the final round. I can get jiggy widit. I might take it a step further and post the highlights.

Scores are up (http://www.pdga.com/schedule/event.php?TournID=7532)

Layouts are correct, so ratings are accurate.

Reminder: As per players handout: 8:30 Tee times Sunday.
No Players Meeting, pick up cards for all courses at Live Oak, beginning at 7:30.

I think the ratings are wrong. My round 1 rating went down today. I don't think you can combine rounds that where played at different times to get a rating which is what I belive happened. Chuck where are you ...?
Round 1
All ADV played City Hall
All Open played UC
All Int/Rec played Lake

Round 2
All Open played City Hall
All Adv played Lake
All Rec/Int played UC

Round 3
All Open played Lake
All Adv played UC
All Rec./Int Played City Hall

Round 4
All Open played City Hall
All Adv played Lake

All rounds Rec/Int palyed short tees, Adv/Open played long.

Thanks LODGA for putting on a smoothly run tourney. You guys have a great club and great courses. I just wish I could've shot a little better, there's not many technical courses around me, I felt like every hole was a tunnel shot. The weather was great all weekend too. I expected to sweat the whole time and it turned out to be cooler than east texas.

quick question: why did the round ratings change? I'm not complaining since they went up for each round, by about 20-30 points. anyone have any insight?

Yes. Int/Rec played from short tees on 6 of the 36 holes at Live Oak. All advanced divisions played from the same tees.

Everyone played from the same tees at Universal City.

As far as I know it is a course record, tournament or casual, and I have never seen a rating that high.

I already know what's coming, but just look at the evidence...

MA2:

Dusty Vodron - Non-PDGA member shoots a 986 rated
tournament.
Shawn Hess - Non-PDGA member shoots 955 tournament
Victor Villalobos - Non-PDGA member shoots 949
Mike McDaniel - Non-PDGA member shoots 949

I can uderstand people having a good weekend, and possibly shooting the rounds of their lives, but come on.......join the PDGA and play where you should be.

Non-members have no "divisional rights" and the TD can make sure they play in the proper division or not get to play.

Great job Live Oak and Mr. Sooner in a strange land. Y'all are always a very hospitable bunch.

Something went askew with the ratings since day one. I seriously doubt they are right at this moment because the same scores shot by different pools are getting the same rating. Possible but highly unlikely.

I have been on both sides of the spectrum and I have to say these B-Tier hosts have 10 times the duties as the C-Tier hosts do. Guys and Gals, you made some great calls out there and the whole thing ran smoothly.

I think you are ready to move up now . . . .A-TIER???
Just ask for support and you will get it....I promise you that!

I heard someone was fishing out the lake and taking the discs? I went back for mine after the tourney and it was nowhere to be found. I know exactly where it went in. Blue Tee-Rex 174-75 with my name and number 512-443-7942. If anyone knows the kids who were fishing them out could you ask them to check their stockpile.

Also we found Randall Karshis's tie dye tee-rex if you want it back just call. We called the number on the disc, but no luck.

I miss my TR!
