The 2008 Aspen Sports Treebash Open will take place May 31st and June 1st. This year will bring the first Supertour event to the Flagstaff area, after two successful world championships.
Last years B-Tier event boasted a Pro event value of 367% above entry fees and an AM value of 441%. We will be using a two pool format, playing McPherson Park and Thorpe Park on Saturday, with a Sunday round at Snowbowl.
This event will fill early, last year filled well before the event. This year will be able to accommodate 144 players, or 72 in each pool.
Registration is online ONLY and is open now: http://www.pdgasignup.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=011&PROD=1208265961

Great tournament had a blast last year one of the best trophies that I have ever got. Hope to be there to defend my Adv title. ? Why no NAU this year.
I believe Barley said NAU is getting ready to start the construction of the ball fields that were part of the master plan when the course was relocated. I believe that holes 13-15 could possibly be affected although the course was designed around the original plans for the fields. With construction going on they felt it would be wise to use one of the other wonderful courses that Flagstaff has to offer.
Barley correct me if i'm wrong?!?

That is correct. The plans keep changing, but we know that the course will be pulled for construction for most of the summer.
We would have used Thorpe and NAU this year, but know McPherson is back in the mix.

So the only way to enter the tournament is online. So since I dont have a credit card I either dont play or ask people to use there credit card so I can enter. That is crap there should alway be the option to mail in entries.

Yes, Sean, we are trying out online only for the first time this year. If you have problems finding someone with a card, let me know and we can work something out.

Sean - Don't you have a checking acct. with a visa check card? I am sure that with all the plastic you won last year you could have opened one ! I'll buy any of the GCC stamps that you have that are unthrown to help get you started.... :D

Apr 21 2008, 09:56 PM
Nope no Checking account because moving back and forth and not the same banks in both places. That plastic is gone. That is what happens when I made the stupid choice to move to Virginia and 9 months later moved back to Cali. I didnt get any GCC stamp disc I got a basket. Worlds cant get here soon enough so I wont have to win plastic anymore.

At least I hope to be here for this one to see you go after it again.

Health and safety are utmost priorities of FDGC. We just want to make sure that lowlanders don't suck air when they play Snowbowl!
barley
May 07 2008, 12:42 PM
It's true, our first non-worlds fly-mart. There will be a players' party from 6-9 at the Green Room with drink specials and a flymart in the back room.
I am asking for a roughly $50 donation in merch from each vendor that will go to the am payout. Please contact me at azbarley@gmail.com if you would like to have a table.

Barley;
What is the cap. on players? 80 for both groups? is 160 players to much for snowbowl?
Can't wait for this one, should be a great time.
This was posted on the Yahoo group yesterday:
Due to the lopsided nature of the Treebash registration, Group A will now be
all the Pro divisions, and Group B will be all the am divisions. The
advanced men will still play the Group A layout. This changes the schedule
on Saturday for Advanced Men:
http://flagstaffdiscgolf.org/08_treebash_schedule.htm
I hope this does not affect too many players who had planned on sharing
rides. Thorpe and McPherson are just a couple of miles apart, so we should
be able to work out some carpooling, etc if necessary.
As of today, there are 29 spots left for pro divisions and 28 spots left
for am divisions.
Check http://flagstaffdiscgolf.org/ for the latest info.
The max capacity is 144 players for ease of play(4 somes)and accommodation of tee times on Sunday at snowbowl (if the snow melts). It snowed 4-6 inches on the ski area yesterday!

Hey Barley, Any idea as to when McPhereson and McThorpe, LOL, will be set up in the tournament layout? Were thinking of coming up to practice but would like to play the tournament layout. To those of you not signed up yet, you better get in quick as this tourney always fills. Barley and the Flagstaff crew ALWAYS run excellent events, I'm sure this one will be too!

Manny, I know that some of the baskets have been moved to the Treebash positions at Thorpe. There's been some talk of having a monthly next weekend at Thorpe and McPherson to play the tournament layouts for A and B pools. A pool (including men's advanced) will play longer, of course. For example, A pool will play from 2's tee to 3's basket, and from 13's tee to a new basket position for 14 at Thorpe (both will probably be par 4s). Hole 6 is also re-configured to tee from the left of the building to a temp basket on the rocks (~370' hole). There's also 2 extra holes up and down the hill after 18 to make up for skipping the merged holes. A pool will play from longer tees (10,15) and to longer basket positions at McPherson (9, 12). Barley is playing the Lemmon Drop this weekend, so it's all pending his return next week. Look forward to seeing you guys! Take care, Bill

We're planning a pre-tournament monthly for this Sunday at McPherson and Thorpe. Both courses will be in the tournament configurations (A and B pools). I'll post details once they're set.

Folks,
Here's the skinny on the Treebash Preview mini-tournament, which will happen this Sunday, 25 May.
1. Start play @ 10, with 9:30 sign-up; second round an hour and a half after last card.
2. Play Thorpe first, then McPherson
3. Two pools. One includes the A pool plus Advanced AMs and Advanced Masters; the other includes the remaining B poolers.
4. Each pool will play the layout they will play in the Treebash.
5. Cost is $10. Optional ace pool of $1 per round. If no ace is hit, ace pool funds go to the payout.
6. Payout depends on turnout. If enough Advanced AMs and Advanced Masters play, they pay out separately; otherwise they compete with open players for payout. Separate women's payouts for A and B pool regardless of turnout.
7. Payout for A pool is cash; payout for B pool and Advanced AMs and Masters(assuming enough of them) is plastic.

How's the weather looking? Is the mountain pretty covered in snow?
Should i bring my snowboard or my golf discs next week?!?!

May 24 2008, 04:38 PM
The mountain got some snow but McP and Thorpe are just a little wet in spots. A crew is going to Snowbowl on Tuesday to install the baskets and manage the snow. It should be fine by next week, the forecast looks good, high 60s and 70s

I want to thank Barley and the rest of the Flagstaff Disc Golf Club for putting on a great event. The courses were in the best shape ever. The Players party was fun with fly mart and free food. The payout was SICK!
Tim Skellenger played like a veteran down the stretch. He hit an ace on 11 to go up two and never looked back. Clutch putting on 12-16 allowed him to cruise in the last two holes for his first Win.
Wayne Hanks also deserves big congrats! This guy is a great putter. He just joined the PDGA a week ago. He played great all weekend.

Will the scores from the 2008 Treebash be available and included in the next ratings update?? TD deadline is 6-10-08, and I know Barley has been crazy busy with the tourney, but I was wanting to know if they will be included. Always good times and great DG in FLG!!
Josh we'll get it in don't worry! Just have a couple of things to do on the report and get the results posted. This event takes alot to get off the ground, thanks to all that helped. The courses really are looking amazing, i couldn't believe how many rocks were out of the fairways! Great to see everyone!

Wayne Hanks is a local Flagstaff golfer and has been around for a number of years, he simply has not travelled. He is a great player and it showed this weekend. Not many players in the field can claim a bogey free round on Snowbowl (I know I certainly can't). I've had the pleasure of being in his group several times prior to this past weekend and he is a very professional player and I would gladly be in a group with him whether it is the lead card or a group fighting for DFL. With that having been said, all the groups I played in this weekend were a blast. Tim S. tore it up in the final round as Cary mentioned. Going in to hole 10 there was a 3 way tie for first. Tim aced hole 11 and never looked back. He executed the shots he needed in order to take the win, and he did so without either gloating or withdrawing from the easy conversational atmosphere of the prior day. Kudos to all of the players for a great and fun tournament. And kudos to the tournament staff as well.

I've had the honor of playing with Wayne for a number of years. Great player, great guy. We've always wondered what his PDGA rating would be if he ever became a member; now we know. Granted, he played on home courses, but a ranking >1000 is not an anomaly.
