I had to post this here because you cannot reply to the PDGA Announcement threads directly.
http://www.pdga.com/dgawards/ (Microtel Award Winner)
Has anyone read this yet? Where is the editing? You can tell it was taken directly from the "nomination" entry and that is more than fine, however, people come to pdga.com and see this right off the bat on our homepage. Those same people then read the bad write up for a DG DISTINCTION AWARD, then they wonder who is running this chop shop operation. Couldn't the article been cleaned up a little before posting? Maybe call the winner and have a short conversation and get some more details personally that the entry didn't provide so a true ARTICLE/write-up could be made. I remind you this is an award of distinction.
What does Microtel think as a sponsor when they read this?
Very disappointing.
GREAT AWARD and recognizer of the good people in our sport. Wish it was done in a more professional manner.
thats my $.02

I, being said person, that entered the submission I too was a little surprised that it was a copy and paste...
If I had known the world was going to be reading it as is I would have made some changes.

First let me start by saying I am now English major.
Maybe you could step up and rewrite it in a more professional way and lend the PDGA a hand. They are very busy with many, many responsibilities. Not to mention a record year for new memberships! I see your point but maybe come up with a solution instead of pointing out the problem.
Pointing out problems is very easy!

JAXQTIP, first off let me start by saying you are exactly right, Pointing out problems is very easy.
Something else is very easy as well... asking for help. I'm not inside the PDGA office and I don't know what goes on all day. I have my assumptions, some positive and some negative, but that's for another day.
All the PDGA has to do is ask. Hey, can someone take charge of our Microtel Distinction Award program and ensure that the winners get the recognition they deserve?!?
Stella's answer... "If it's needed, sure thing, I'll do it!"
but seriously, how long do you think it would take to edit that entry. maybe five minutes?.. I could contact the winner, and as long as they aren't like some of my friends on the phone, have a more personal article written up in half an hour. Seriously.
I'm not trying to be negative here, but these are the simple oversights that make us look foolish. Even Mark said had he known the whole world would be reading it he may have made some changes.

Not MAY have... I WOULD have. I wrote that up during my lunch hour. If I knew that disc golfers from all over would read that I would have put some effort into making it flow much better than it does.

Josh,
Sorry you are disappointed. Our intention has always been to post the text as it was written by the nominating member. This person certainly knows the nominee and his/her accomplishments better than anyone else so why would we want to change the language that they chose to describe the award winner?
Worry not! I copy the Microtel representative on all aspects of this program and he is very pleased with the program thus far.
No matter how well you do something, there is always room for improvement. If you are indeed serious about volunteering some of your time to improve this program, please feel free to give me a call at the office. The PDGA and Microtel would both be very appreciative.
Regards,
Brian Graham
