I personally love 19 and 20 and would hate to see em go but could do without 2 in the woods before the tennis courts.
looking forward to this one again... overall love the course! unfort. may be out of town (might be playing an A tier in Washington State)
cool new stamp too... ring of tar stamp will become a collectors item! :)

I also love holes 19 and 20, but I have heard the course is 19 holes now with the addtion of a new 1 and 2, and the doing away with the old hole #1. Can you elaborate on the addtion of these holes? Where are they and what they be like?

#1 is gone?!... not the thumber hole over the top down the hill!! if 1 is gone and 2 are added and its still only 19 then what other ones are gone? also can someone describe the 2 new holes? (i remember the layout of land fairly well)

Apr 04 2008, 12:55 PM
2 new holes play through the woods. 1st one seems to be about 260 straight shot and #2 is a 240-250? straight shot with the basket kinda elevated. also with these two new holes don't know if you play old #2 over the water.

no #2 either... wonder what else was taken out... its an anti-thumber conspiracy! ;)

18 - 1 + 2 = 19 holes :D
The two new holes are sweet, first goes over a farily deep ravine/drop-off with the basket on a fairly steep hill on the other side. The 2nd has a similiar amount of elevation change but the basket is at a lower elevation than the teebox. It's set on a hillside tucked between some large boulders which makes for a very risk/reward putt for a duece or par saver. I've only played them a couple times but they're nice additions.

Apr 04 2008, 01:10 PM
Apologies if I'm divulging secret information...but it's my understanding that two more will be put in, current #3 and #5 (water hole and first long hole after) may be modified, and #4 (short shot beside pond) may also be taken out. Not sure how this affects the two extra holes at the very end (that are only played in the tournament). But I'm not a club member, so this isn't definitive.
mwatson10324
Apr 04 2008, 01:13 PM
are these two new holes the two old holes that used to be out there in the woods right off the parking lot at the top of the hill? The description sound fairly similar.

actually my math included 19 & 20 that were played in last years tourney so...
20 - 1 + 2 = 21 (so either they're not including 19 + 20 or 2 other holes got axed... thats why i was asking)

MDub,
New 1 is pretty much perpendicular to the old 1 that you're thinking of. New 2 is like old 2 but a little to the left, and I want to say longer, though not by much if so.

19 and 20 are temp holes stack i think they are trying to tell you that there are 19 permanent holes out there now. at least i think that is what i am reading. i need to get out there soon and play the new layout. it is one of my favorite courses. and i love being in blue heaven.
so i am assuming instead of hole 1 being the orig. where the tee was on the road at the top of the hill it is now to the left somewhere in the woods. then you play 2 new holes in the woods there and then come out to Orig. number 3 and play on? there where collars in there from an old layout are they in use? thanks for all the info. guys.
twig
Apr 04 2008, 03:37 PM
Correct about the temp holes BWD, since those are only playable during the tourney, no baskets there the rest of the year b/c of the ropes course. And yeah, the hole from the top of the road to the basket by the fence is out, but the new #1 is easy to spot, just behind that sign there (maybe 20 feet into the woods), with the tee already poured. And not using the old collars, 1 is on the side of the hill instead of the bottom, and 2's old pin still has that fallen tree, so it's to the left. The new #2 pin definitely has a little Charlotte flavor to it. ;)

The statement above is correct. So, following the two new holes, you go to old #2 (pond shot) which becomes #3. All remaining holes are simply bumped up one number (old 3 becomes 4....old 18 becomes 19)
We may combine #4 &5 (old #3&4) into a par 4, which will correct all of the following hole #s, but this may or may not be done for this years tournament. There are a number of factors affecting this decision:
1.stormwater/ env assessment plans to repair pond drain and return the stream to a natural meander through the fairway under the zipline (hopefully they will allow us to work with them on the design to incorporate risk/reward landing zones for this par 4, using the stream banks). this overhaul may be 2+ years away.
2. plans for an alt loop through the woods connecting hole 2 to hole5 for use when the ropes course is in session.
We will add the 2 temp holes at the end of the course for the tournament.

is that when you tee at the top of the hill and then go back up to the left through the woods?
And by saying 20 holes par 64...
I'm assuming we are play the new 1 and 2, then 3 (old 2 - water), then old 3 and old 4 as a combo par 4, then back on track with the original course at hole 5?
So the par 4's are....
Combo hole 4
5
13
20
Is that correct?

The course in Chapel Hill is looking great and I like most of the new holes being used for the tournament. My only compaint is with new hole 2. The new tee pad is great, but with the basket in its current position, it'll take a stroke of luck (or talent) to be in position for a 2... and for that matter I would be very pleased to walk away with a 3 since there are really no good landing areas. There will be many scores of 4 & higher on this hole during the tournament. I hope there are volunteers/spotters on this hole or I anticipate backups as people search for their discs. I know a lot of work has gone into the new holes 1 & 2 and the work is definitely appreciated. New hole 1 is much better than the previous hole 1 and the new 2 has a lot of potential... particularly with some more tree clearing. We are hoping to have #2 short pin (up in the rocks) ready soon and to use it for the tourney. This will be one of the main projects for this weekend (Sat morning 8AM) workday, along with some additonal cleanup on this hole.
Any one interested in helping, PM me

I'll be in town for practice round today, (friday 20) around 9 to 930 tee time.
Looking to see others there, hopefully.
Halton, glad to see #2 short for the tournament. That placement is too cool to skip.
What about #3? on the hill just past pond vs down by rocks? OB on 4?
Great course, cant wait to play it!

Jun 20 2008, 03:38 PM
Yes, # 2 will be in the rocks for the tournament
#3 will probably stay put, but we may have a long pad
#4 ob left of creek
#3 depends on how much we get done at workday this saturday (8am, break for dubs at 10, continue afterward)
PM to let me know you are coming, bring water, gloves, machette, other tools if ya got em

Great workday today!
Big thanks to Allen Mitchell, Mike Mills and Felix Sung!!
We got the basket back up in the rocks position on #2, cleared out some more of the vines on the left and touched up the steps by the basket.
Also, pulled the old #3 basket (say bye-bye) and prepped it for use on #20.
Registrations are rolling in fast, get em in in the next couple days or you will miss it!!

NOT OB
from caddy book that will be in in all players packs...
Tar Heel Tournament Course Layout and OB
All holes tee from rectangular/ trapezoidal concrete pads except holes 4, 16, 19, 20.
All tees are flagged.
All concrete or asphalt pavement, softball fields, tennis courts, volleyball courts, ropes course areas, the pond (string), and all areas within the chancellors fence are OB. The old golf cart paths are NOT OB. All OB plays from last point in bounds, EXCEPT hole #3 where drop zone is marked. All other water on the course is casual.
Hole #3. OB pond, use marked drop zone.
Hole #4. Tee from asphalt cart path. Pond and left of creek is OB
Hole #5. Use back (pro) teepad
Hole #7. Road left of fairway and driveway beyond pin are OB
Hole #8. Parking lot, high voltage power box and the concrete foundation beneath it are OB. Discs shall be marked and played from the last point in-bounds. All water is casual, play directly behind disc.
Hole#12. OB Left of fence at the top of the hill and string connecting to the back fence.
Hole#16. Tee between flags from old concrete foundation.
Hole#19. Tee between flags from asphalt. OB on asphalt or right of driveway, top of buildings or inside ropes course (string), road behind basket.
Hole#20. Natural tee. OB on top of buildings, electrical boxes, wooden see-saw, and road behind basket.

Yep,, thats why Wyatt fears this. Oh and by the way, I'm giving you a headstart on the Hooters Cup...LOL
p.s. you shot great this weekend. Bet you averaged 910 over 4 long, grueling, muscle grinding, heated, climbing rounds in Chepel Hell.
Mini Thumber, a pretty good rec player, just not as good a bagger as Jerry, then..

Thanks Stack. Thanks Hal, good to see you are up and about. Thought that 51 in the Advance Div may be rated a little than that. That wasa good shootin. A 13 down on that course has got to be a record.
Mini Thumber, a Pretty good Rec player. Maybe some day the PDGA will repair these division names.
Headed for the Cha Ching ;)

I really enjoyed the tournament Halton. The course looked great and I met a lot of really cool people this past weekend. That is the most fun a State fan has had in Chapel Hill in a long time!!! :D Thanks to all of the volunteers and spotters too. Take good care!

what happened to Crackin'??
He called me ~8:35 before the 9am Sun tee, said he was just getting out of Franklinton. Called back 10 min later and said his disc were in the other car, turned around and went to Mansies. Very unfortunate, as he was leading by 2 over Schweb. However, he was not the only one to DNF on Sunday from a cashing position on Saturday. (TThe Playas ParTTy was off da sprinkler-head)
On the lighter side......

The scores were turned in and now show up on your player profile page.
Once this happens, the ratings disappear until they are officially rated for the next update.
