Better Directions.

From I-65 S take a left..going east...if N..take a right..going east. Go past all the hotels you will most likely be staying at. If you see Jimmy D's Bar-B-Que and Self Storage on your right....stop in...they close at 6pm...not open on Sunday and Monday. Bar-B-Que is excellent and the banana pudding will hit the spot...anyway...keep going east...until you think you are headed to the boonies...you'll come down a hill and see something on your right that looks like a finish line at a raceway....bam..you are at the park. Pull in...walk past the gym to hole #1. Play a round early and hit Jimmy D's Bar-B-Que on the way back to the hotel.

He must have had the round of a lifetime. He's got to be pumped right now. Like Tank after the first round at the USDGC last year, leading the rest of the world by 2 strokes. At least most of us knew who Tank was. This guy, that's nuts for a 938 rated player to have that kind of round in an NT. That would be something else to see him play well and stay up there towards the top.

PDGA number is correct in connection to the ratings. I suspect maybe someone sorted the womens division in the TD report and forgot to include their Name column in the sort. So all of the ratings should still be correct because those are brought in from the online PDGA database referencing the PDGA number. But the names come from the TD report (with occasional misspellings) versus the online PDGA database for unofficial score postings because everyone doesn't have a PDGA number.

I know that that is how they did it for the Brent Hambrick Memorial Open a year ago. Interesting to see that Courtney came back from a bogey slip up on the first hole to take third place.

Nice win for the Ohioan, Val!

Congratulations to Bennett on his highest finish ever in an NT after a very slow start to the 2008 season at the Memorial! Along with, I believe, his first ever finish ahead of Climo in a tournament.

And nice win, of course, to Schultz. Another notch in the belt there.

I'm surpirsed there were five women in the Final 9. I thought NT and Championship policy was to break ties for the 4th position?

First of all, there's no policy about having final nines. BG is one of the few NTs that still have a final 9. There is a rule on "reduction of field size." BG chose to cut to the top 4 PLACES, not top 4 players. This was also done at Women's Nationals in 2005 and 2006, so there is precedent.

Chap

cgkdisc
Apr 14 2008, 12:06 AM
So, Women's policy is different from Men's? I read the policy and there's no option to cut to places versus players. It does allow TD discretion on numbers. However, I was under perhaps the false impression that the NT and Championships had consistent policies across the board on cuts even if not followed in lower tiers.

I say it is better they try to break the tie over 9 holes.

Don't care what the policy is. Just thought the idea for our top events was to at least be consistent. If four players were tied for forth, would you have all seven play 9 holes to break the tie?

Nope!

chappyfade
Apr 14 2008, 12:24 AM
the Comp Manual says nothing about using players or places to determine how to reduce the fiel, so each NT can choose how to do this, if they cut at all. BG chose places. Since 5 women occupied the top 4 places, 5 women made the final. Since 4 men occupied the top 4 places in Open, 4 men made the final.

cgkdisc
Apr 14 2008, 12:25 AM
I'd even be fine if it was somewhere between always allowing tied players to play or always playing it off by saying something like if just two are tied for 4th then no playoff but if more than two are tied, then play it off to get down to either 5 or just 4. Seems like that tweener approach would allow more tied players to play final 9s but not become unwieldy with more than 5. After all, we allow groups up to 5 for regular play.

MTL21676
Apr 14 2008, 12:27 AM
I know as a player I would rather have a 9 hole playoff for 4th rather than a one hole playoff.

I think we need to copy our cousin golf in some majors. I would like to see more 3 hole total score playoffs than sudden death playoffs, personally.

cgkdisc
Apr 14 2008, 12:31 AM
Presuming the TD followed this rule in advance by saying tiebreakers wouldn't be used, then the policy would have been to allow all tied for fourth to play in the Final 9. No problem unless three or four were tied for 4th. That's why the policy indicates tiebreakers be used unless TD is willing to allow potentially large Final 9 groups should that happen.

B. Unless announced in advance by the Tournament Director all ties for a semi final or final cut will be broken by the use of a tiebreaker

Great job Bowling Green Team. Tough conditions all weekend and you can't do much about the weather, but move a little further into Spring/Summer. Some great hospitality and awesome rounds out there none the less.

Val's 47 was truly fantastic with an ace chain out no less. Her 1027 could have at least been a 1032 if played in the afternoon even though it was same conditions.

I will assume Chuck has some work to do on the Ratings and it could be the Open Pool B scores added in that are the clouding factor.

The round of 47 that Barry and E-Mac shot at White in that wind was spectacular. The 1069 hardly gives it justice when you think that a 43 is the perfect round and most likely only doable under perfect conditions. We had no where close to even decent conditions out there which makes their scores nutty good.

All rounds on the same layout are now automatically combined to calculate ratings UNLESS the TD sets them up as separate layouts in the TD report because they need to be separate due to different conditions morning versus afternoon. A 5-pt difference is too small to determine whether random variance or actual wind difference caused it. So, my thought would be that the rounds be combined.

I agree.

The temporary ratings will be a little screwed up for the Saturday rounds, because some people switched pools for Sunday, but the Sunday rounds (rounds 3 and 4) should be nails on. 1027-1032...either way it's an awesome round.

Chap

matthewblakely
Apr 14 2008, 03:38 PM
I think there should be differences between the ratings of rounds on Sunday. Pete Caldwell was in the B pool and we talked about the difference in conditions. The second round of the day had worse weather and harder conditions to play in than the first, so there should be a difference in ratings of the same score if played in the morning or afternoon. Val's 47 is hot, but a 47 in the afternoon should have been rated higher. Now on the other hand the afternoon round for the B-pool should have a slightly higher rating for a similar score in the morning round.

Actually, I disagree. Lovers is more open, and you feel the effects more at Lovers than at Kereiakes. I think the conditions both rounds were pretty equally miserable.

So the worse weather happened in the 2nd round. Agree? And we both agree the weather would affect the scores at Lovers more than at Keriakes. than in that case than Val's 47 in the morning should be rated a little less than a 47 in the afternoon. ???
