Hey Mike!
You may be right for AM 1--last few years it's been:
2007 local
2006 San Jose
2005 local
2004 San Jose (I think)
2003 local
2002 local
Could be the year for a non-local CA winner... :D If Patrick Brown plays well, SF could crack into the winners circle.
For the Pro side:
Berl will have her hands full with the competition, but I give her a solid edge on her home course! ;)
I'm pulling for Nate to win it this year, though the Open field is solid.
And yes, Kenny Lee gets my vote for Pro GM!
See you in a couple of weeks!

Sandbagger? I don't even feel like I'm the favorite to win the very tough GM division. There will be lots of players there that have played that track hundreds of times. I've played maybe 20 rounds at DeLa. And I don't have time to practice it :mad:since the Ams are there this weekend and next weekend is Motherlode. I 'will' side-bet Masters players though. :D

Hey Matt,
I was spotting on #18 for most of the afternoon and Ganz had the best drive I'd seen over a 4 hr period. He made it to the edge of the 10 m ring (deep position on right) and went for the birdie, just missing it. Very cool to see!
The spotter before me said he saw only 4 players get birdies in the 4 hr prior to my arrival... :o
See you in two weeks!

Scores: http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=7430
Highlights:
Tim Messer aced 26A and followed it up with by canning a 60ft putt on 27 for birdie in front of the gallery.
That was my best first round ever at the Masters Cup. Missed only one inside the circle, but didn't make anything outside. Could have been even lower.
It's gonna get cold and windy out there tomorrow. I can't wait. :)

Why are so many pros playing in the am division? What a bunch of baggers.6 players have a 950 and over player rating what is the problem? This is not a division for 950 players. These player should not be able to play in this event ,the numbers dont lie ,only the players.....When is this going to stop .....Bagging is a big problem the TDs or the pdga needs to adderss this issue now!!!!!!!!Time to push the bird with feathers from the nest ......Dont worry they can fly... :(

No bagging going on here with the official PDGA ratings break at 970 for sliding between pro and am. If anything, we're solving the opposite of "bagging" called "dreaming" that you can contend in top tier pro events with a stable 960 rating.

Kudos to local boy Jamie Tuckey taking it to the rest of the field over the first two days! Keep it rolling Jamie! :D
It's interesting to note that even though there are six AM 1 players currently rated over 960 (and two over 970), that no one is shooting under par. Granted, the course layout is about as tough as it can get, but in two weeks when the Pros show up, I can guarantee LOTS of under par scores, even in the Master's and Women's divisions (no slight intended).
If there are AMs 'bagging' in this weekend's event, they would simply be fodder for the Pro purse--NO chance of cashing.
As Magilla points out, there is no mechanism to force players to jump to Pro. And winning the Master's Cup is truly an accomplishment, on the level of any of the big A-tier tournaments, and a real feather in the cap.
I hope Jamie adds one to his hat! :D Go DeLa!
Cheers,
Steve

Congratulations to local golfer Jamie Tuckey for winning AM 1, taking it by 9 strokes (and the ONLY player under par for the whole tournament)!! :D  The hit parade of local talent continues for another year.
Sean Ulrich, another local, takes his first win in AM Masters! And Steve Ganz was right behind him--good job!
And local Rob Brox improves on his 3rd place finish last year to edge out other local Mark Caton in Adv Grandmasters.
Chasidee takes Int Women by ten strokes!
Quite a showing for the locals, and there's a lot to be said about knowing the in-and-outs of DeLa.

Hey Kenny,
Good luck at the 'Lode.
All the pins at DeLa are in position for the Pro tournament, so folks can head into SC and see what the first two days will be like. Fairly brutal... Hole #17 is currently in play, with the pin from #20 removed to fill the #17 slot. Hole #20 and 22 will not be in play during the tournament to allow for more parking, per usual.

Not that I want to keep you off track, but...
For the pro weekend we are removing the rest of the parking lot holes. 20 - 24 will not be in play. We will use the additional space for more parking and a larger practice/warm-up area.
The course will be long all weekend. Some of the holes will change, but none of them will be moved to their shortest positions.
See you all in a week at the skins match!

Just finished watching Climo, Doss, Jenkins and Manabu battle it out in a $50 per hole skins game sponsored by Hall of Famer Tom Schot. I watched in horror/amazement as Kenny, Nate and Avery all ran it for a birdie on hole #21 (shortest on course), whereas Manabu's upshot (worst drive) parked him about 10 ft from the pin. Then all three missed their par putts and Manabu dropped in for a par--and $300 cash (6 holes)!! :o:eek:
Kenny finally got two skins two holes later on #23 as his roller was parked and everyone else floundered their drives. He picked up another $100 on #25--he was the only one to go straight at the pin--the others took the anhyzer route to the long pin position.
Congratulation to Tom Schot Sports and all the folks supporting this event. We had about 50 people following the foursome the whole time. :D
Cheers,

Rico's putt was about 35 feet uphill. He was ready to putt and then a bunch of cameras started clicking so he backed off. He went thru his routine again and nailed it dead center. Avery putted first. He was about 40 out and didn't really throw a very good putt. Real low and safe.
