If you are within driving distance of Emporia, KS this is an A-Tier that you don't want to miss. Two quality courses in the same park, a professionally run tournament, awesome glass blown trophies, and plenty of plastic to go around for everyone. Pick your own payout for the amateur divisions as well. We expect the biggest attendance ever this year and think that there will be over 150 players. Last year the players pack was a dry-fit shirt and it will be top notch again this year!

This year we will be adding a new twist to the final skins match! Everyone should be excited about this one! The details are still not set in stone but right now we are looking at doing the top four open scores as the automatic qualifiers for the skins. These four players will be paired up with other players who are picked from the raffle. To get in to the raffle you can either purchase a CFR/full color fundraiser disc or purchase a $5 raffle ticket. The doubles format will be a few different variations. More details on this to come but we think this will be an exciting change and give everyone a chance to play in the skins match. For most of the players who get paired up with the pro's this will be the biggest stage they have ever played in. I really think this is going to be an exciting new addition to the tournament. Players are already getting excited about this.

We hosted the 13th Annual Texas States this weekend and Eric, Liz and Miles S. stayed with us. They were the best house guests anyone could ever ask for. We won't be able to make the Glass Blown this year because Tracy will compete in Texas Women's Tourney, but it will be our number one priority for travel next year. Sounds like the chance for this skins matchup is the coolest raffle idea for a tournament that I've heard of yet. Good luck to the winners...

Homeboy, home course, we will see  He has to win, first :) One of the best MWest tournys, A tier, and, it is still almost, small enough.

My best guess, hopefully, I will show some time Friday.

Doubles on Friday is normally $20/partner for Open and $10/partner for AM.

More info on the final 9. The following formats will be part of the final.

Alt. shot. 1 hole with the Qualifier teeing first, 1 hole with the partner throwing first.

Swap Lies. Both partners drive, then complete the hole from their partners lie.

Double birdie doubles. Both partners drive, then you have several options. 1- Take a park job for a gimme 2? 2- Both putt from your own lie going for the double birdie or 1. If the first partner misses, the second partner can try to cover their buddy and putt from their lie. If not, you take the worst score.

Normal best shot doubles.

Scooter,
Word :cool:4-5 yrs in a row now for me.. I have to go, I won there :). Hopefully can do the same in different division.

The best part of the tourny is that all is, w/in 1 mile. Courses, hotel, food. You do not need to travel far. You could literally walk from the courses 1/2 mile to the hotel, and another 1/2 to all the food you would need.

The weekend before STL. Are you planning on traveling North?

Peace

The GBO came and went! It is kind of hard to believe that it is already over. 142 players sets a new record for the tournament.

I want to thank everyone who played in the tournament or contributed in any way. It takes a lot of work to make these run smoothly and a lot of sponsorship! The entire DD crew makes events like this run the way they are meant to. These players sacrifice their warm up time and relaxation time to ensure that this tournament and every DD tournament is run on time and in a professional way.

A big thanks for helping out to make this tournament a success goes out to: Eric McCabe, Liz Lopez, Nate Martin, Jake Newell, Chris Wiggins, Brandon Hopkins, Sarah Wilkerson, Zach Newhouse, Greg Schwartz, Chris Tyler, Barry Schultz, Smitty, Shan & Cilecia Trotter, and my Dad.

I failed to mention at the tournament what a blessing it was to have Sarah Wilkerson there. She took the entire weekend to hang out at headquarters and keep things running on time. She started the rounds, plugged everything in the computer, checked scores, and all of the other little things that go unnoticed. Without her help we would probably still be at the course!

I do want to apologize about the conclusion of tournament. The CTP and Ace money throw off just took way too long. Next year once the skins match is over we will immediately go to the awards ceremony and then take care of the other stuff after the awards.

The skins match seemed to be a huge success. Once I heard the roar from the crowd at headquarters I knew this was exactly what we were looking for! You can count on this taking place again next year. Raffle tickets go on sale tomorrow Shocked. Crispin Carrasco said, "That was the best disc golf experience in my life! I like blacked out for the entire skins match!"

Thanks to these sponsors who contributed to the $3000+ added cash for this event. The Pro Purse alone had $2120 in added CASH (not prizes, coupons, or merchandise) just for the payout plus the glass trophies for each division which weren't deducted from the pro payout. Dynamic Discs donated all the dry-fit shirts for the pro players packs so the event value for the pro players at this event was the best it has ever been!

Final 9 at the Glass Blown Open (summarized by Smitty)

This was maybe one of the most fun finals that I have watched. It was a very relaxed mood, with some intense moments.

Teams:

Lefties have rights too. (Hemi and Greenwood)
D-craft World (Ron and 2L)
CrispyMac (E-Mac and Crispin)
Do Tell me Barry (Barry and Tony D)

Hole 1 (17 long on West) $50.00

A Scary hole to start on, made even scarier with some of the top players in the world and a gallery of 80 plus people following. All the chosen players cleared the gap, leaving their partner with a chance to go up and over. I knew this was going to be a special final 9 when Tony D dropped and absolute bomb, bringing the crowd to an uproar of applause. Ron was out, just short of the short tee and went for the green, only to come up short and put 2L in the crap. Hemi was next, he cleared the creek., but put Greenwood short and in Cedar Jail on the backside. E-Mac bombs a Predator over the top leaving Crispin with a long 45 foot putt. Barry clears the top, catches a tree and leaves Tony D looking at a 25 foot putt for the first skin. With no shot at the hole and 2 teams with a for sure 4 at least, Liz and Ron pick up and head to the next hole. Greenwood then crawls into jail, and makes a great shot out, leaving Hemi with a 30 footer. Crispin gave his putt a great run, missing right and leaving E-Mac a 25 footer. Tony D steps up and chains out, leaving Barry a 15 footer. Hemi steps up and just kills the 30 footer dead in the heart, good thing, because E-Mac missed his putt low and left. Barry chipped in for the 4 and off to the next hole we go.

Hole 2 (18 west to 1 short) $100

The tee shot was what all the gallery wanted to see. The 4 top players at the tourney with a tough decision gun for the green or put their partner in position. Hemi is up first and with no lefty shot to the green, throws a low hot hyzer into good position for Jay. Ron steps up and throws a tall hyzer over the pond to the normal long pin. Sprout steps up and gives the crowd what the want, a bomb at the hole. He held on a little long, and smashed the second tree landing safe and short of the pond. Barry follows Sprouts lead but with much better results. He just flat smokes a Destroyer about 10 feet of the ground, makes it walk on water up and over the dike for a sure 3 and a run at a 2. Crispin is up first and throws a pro caliber shot 4 feet over the **** and hyzering at the bucket. Little did the gallery know, but he put it with in 10 feet a sure gimmie for Eric. Jay steps up and has to throw a turnover shot that panned out a little and ended up in the cedars deep of the pin. 2L was up next and threw a beautiful controlled hyzer that just missed the basket by inches, leaving Ron an easy 12 foot putt. Tony D had the final shot for the group. Had he known that Crispin had absolutely parked the hole he may have been a little more aggressive, instead he took a very modest run that came up short. We picked up all the discs and headed to the next hole.

Hole 3 (9 east) $150

The third hole brought the chosen players to the box again. Once again Jay was up first. He pulled out a beat up Roc and gave it a run, hyzering out late leaving Hemi a 45 foot putt. 2L was up next, she hyzered in just past the basket leaving Ron a sure 2 from 16 feet. Crispin had a little to much hyzer on his drive and put Eric in the front of the bush with little more then a prayer for a 2. It was looking like the push may come down to Tony Ds shot. He went with a Z Xtra and a stand still shot, against the advice of his caddy. It proved to not be the wisest choice, the stable disc and lack of speed caused the disc to smash the cedar short. With luck on their side, the disc bounced out and was a few feet behind the circle. Eric took a run from the worst lie with no luck. Hemi was the next hope to push the skin, and gave it a great run. Slamming the face mask and falling to the ground. Barry now had his chance for the push. Everyone in the crowd knew how important this putt was, and knowing he was the 2 time world champ most felt like we were going to push again. Barrys putt came up well short, leaving Ron and Liz the chip in for the money. Ron took a knee and eyed the putt, and to the disbelief of the entire gallery chained out left.

Hole 4 (10 east pad to 11 east long basket) $200

Another chance for the big guns to let one fly and you didnt hear a complaint from the crowd. Once again the tourney champ had the box. Daves drive ended up shorter and tighter to the Cedar trees then he wanted. Still shouldnt be a problem, because Greenwood is also a lefty and had what looked like a pretty simple hyzer. Ron took the pad and threw a tall Spike Hyzer, a shot that really surprised the crowd. E-Mac smashed his pea green Force well down the fairway but extremely tight to the cedars. Barry busted out Captain America his pro Wraith and put a great drive well down the fairway leaving Tony probably the most straight forward look at the hole. Liz was up first and had to sneak her disc between to trees. Good plan that went bad when she nailed the tree on the left, leaving Ron with a 240 foot shot. Greenwood was up next. When we got to his disc it was surrounded by casual water. After a quick rules quiz, we gave Jay a legal lie. It looked like a very doable hyzer shot for the lefty. Jay got it a little wider then he wanted and left Hemi with a 150 foot up shot. Crispin was out now and tighter on the trees then I had first thought. He pulled out what I think was a Buzzz of some sort and tried the anhyzer line. Out of his hand, I thought it was to tight. Somehow the disc snaked its way between several trees and came to rest 15 feet from the hole. Putting a little pressure on Tony D. Once again, he went with the Z Xtra and the stand still approach. Once again, he had the some results. Early hyzer into the Cedar trees, this time he wasnt quite as lucky. He put Barry all the way in the bush up against the trunk of the tree. Ron was out, and after a quick crack at Eric for missing a putt today (which I thought was strange, since he just missed a short putt on the last hole), gave it a run with a Drone, leaving Liz 30 feet deep and well left of the hole. Hemi was up next and tried to give it a straight at the basket run with a putter, also missing but leaving his partner with an easy come backer. Once again it looked like it was coming down to Barry to push the skin. He crawled into the tree and found the best way out and tried to throw a flick shot through a small gap, smack and he only advance 5 feet. E-Mac calmly walked up to his lie and knocked down the12 foot putt for some bonus cash.

Hole 5 (normal hole 12 short) $50

This was a great hole to watch, because every chosen member could easily drive this hole. Crispin had the honors and threw what I thought was going to be an ACE. His disc cruised by the basket chain high and no more then 3 feet left, ending up in the Cedar but only about 25 feet out. Jay Greenwood went next and threw a drive out left that he flipped and finished farther left then he wanted, leaving Hemi with a 45 footer. 2L went for the Blue ESP Crush and had another perfect shot. Ron was looking at a 20 footer just beside the last little tree. Once again it looked like Tony D was going to have to save the day. Once again he went with the stand still drive and put Barry deep into the cedars with what looked like no shot. Barry was first to throw the upshot, he went with a turn over putter out of the cedar and landed 10 feet out. This was perfect, now all the other open players could run their putt and push the hole. Hemi did just that it appeared. He nailed the perfect line, maybe a little hard, because the disc hit the pole and bounced out. E-Mac was next, he crawled into the bush, wiggled for position, and gave it his best run. This time Ron went right to business and made a perfect putt to win the skin.

Hole 6 (1 west to 16 short on east) $50

This hole looked much longer then it really was, the Pros struggled to give their partner a good look. Ron was up first and threw hard and deep left (then blamed me for not being clear on the hole.). E-Mac was up next, he went with a Predator that clipped the top of the Cedar and ended up short. Hemi took the box with a Sidewinder on what looked like a pretty simple hyzer for his cannon of an arm. The Sidewinder flipped and left Greenwood with a tough putt around the protecting Cedar. Barry reached for his Captain America Wraith and smashed it over the trees and probably 50 foot deep. With the other three players parked on their upshots it came time for Tony to give it a run. This time he did, chain high but left.

Hole 7 (Top of the hill to 3 Long) $100

This was the longest hole in the final, a huge downhill bomb. The pros had the tee and it was awesome to watch the disc just sail for what looked like a mile. Ron was up first and just killed his White force. E-Mac stepped up with a green force and threw the exact same shot as Ron, for some reason Erics disc flipped and ended up a little right of the gap. Hemi was up and once again had the toughest shot to throw, he really had to work his disc compared to the other guys just flipping it over and letting it go. Dave ended up flipping his disc more then he wanted and left Jay with a very tough very long upshot. Barry pulled out a Pink Champion Destroyer and threw a very controlled shot to the ideal spot on the fairway. Jay was up first and hit some early trees, this pretty much turned team Lefties Have Right Too into spectators for the hole. Crispin was now out and threw another great shot that left E-Mac with a putt he wasnt going to miss. Tony D looked at me with confidence and said I am going to make this putt. He turned his putter over just a little early and landed at the base of the pole. 2L now had a chance to steal the skins. She jump putted from 45 and didnt worry how far past she went. It was a great run for the skins that ended up left of the basket.

Hole 8 (normal hole 4 east) $150

This hole was perfect for the situation all the players could reach the safe far side of the water with a perfect drive. Liz was the only player that would struggle to clear the drink and she was up first. She played the smart shot to the edge of the water, giving Ron a long putt. Crispin was up next and threw the only shot he will want to forget of the entire finals, flipping his disc and splashing it into the middle of the pond. Greenwood took the tee and hit the last tree on the short side of the pond dropping safe. This once again opened the door for Tony. He delivered this time, bombing a Force over the water leaving Barry with the best look and a chance to watch the rest of the group throw first. E-Mac went first, trying to throw one in from the drop to give all the rest of the players the green light. He missed and ended up a little deep, most likely done for this hole.. Dave and Ron both floated upshots to about three feet from the pin. Barry now had now worries, he wouldnt be relying on Tony to hit a par saver. I was for sure this putt was going in, and the crowd was going to go nuts. Barry threw a nice high putt that ended up short once again. Setting up what was going to be a killer last hole.

Hole 9 (Road next to 3 east to 18 short on east) $250

It was stated before the start of the round that anyone who pushes the last hole splits all the skins. This stops a long playoff. The hole played uphill over the tall grass which was safe for the first time all weekend. We gave the chosen players the honor. We kind of thought it would be cool to see the pros go for a big putt to win, yet keep their partner in range in case of a miss. Liz was up first and threw to the top of the hill about 50 feet out but in the open. Crispin was next on the pad and once again turned his drive to much putting E-Mac behind some pines 60 out with a tough putt. Jay Greenwood threw to the top of the hill into the short grass maybe 65 feet out. Tony D threw of all discs a Beast (signed by Barry), that hyzered out into the tall grass about 55 feet out. Hemi had the first go at it, and gave it a very safe run missing but laying only 6 feet from the hole. E-Mac was next and gave it the best run he had from behind the tree also less then 10 feet from another payday. Barry was up, he probably would have been a little more aggressive if a pine tree wasnt just a few feet behind the basket, he also was less then 10 feet out when finished. This put all the pressure on Ron. He had the best look and a great putter to cover his miss. I dont know if he talked with her before the shot or not, but he threw a classic Ron that was dead center of the basket to capture all the skins and add to his and Liz already healthy payday.
