Please answer only if you are an Amateur or a Pro that plays in Amateur divisions. Thanks!

How about a balanced option? Currently I get about $20 retail value player pack (pick my own) for my $25 plus the merch pick-you-own payout.

Chrispy,

Long time no talk bro I'm in TX now.......payout should be based on play and the players packs should come from sponsors or things of that nature.....I always thought you had good payout :D

What's up Travis! You miss Stilly? I miss OK, I'll be there for the "NT" in May. Krupicka, what we're doing now is what you describe. I was just wondering how people felt about what they did at the Memorial.

What about you guys that rarely cash? Would you rather get a great players pack and walk away with something or donate it to the guys that cash?

The guys that rarely cash should play in their rating indicated division and not think that they have any right to control the process by virtue of their choice to play in their self-esteem indicated division instead. :D

That's true. I have always thought that payout should be determined by performance.

There is already way too much "everybody is a winner" in today's society.

I've always seen it as the players package should equal your entry fee, but the payout based on performace, and division.

Advanced should get the best prizes such as bags and/or baskets along with a few discs. Everyone else gets discs instead. Or at least a voucher to get discs.

I've never cared for players packages and prefer it all go into payouts.....despite the fact that I had a six-year stretch of not "cashing", mostly due to playing above my rating, and so benefited from players packages.

Regardless, paying out in vouchers is much better for either packages or payouts. Beats getting something I don't want and won't use.

There is a counter argument going to higher player packages / lower payouts reduces bagging and is better for the sport.

Standard pick your own payout for 80% of the entry fee.
Players packs at 40% of entry fee
Sponsorship for the 20% overlap.

Players pack 100% retail value of entry fee ( minus any PDGA and Local or State Tour fees)
Vouchered Payout at 100% retail value of entry fee ( minus any PDGA and Local or State Tour fees)
Sponsorship for added cash to the PRO purse.

Let's let the AM's have their money and raise more money for the PRO's.

Jax open is running a C-tier event this year which is paying out like an A-tier event. It's all because of the sponsorships!!! Over the past 3 years, the Jax Open has paid out more then 200% each year to both AM's and PRO's. We expect to meet or exceed this again this year.

What about the option of very low entry fees and trophy only for payouts?

IMO - for polls, if everyone is not included in the voting, the option of "Do not permit users to view poll results until the stop time has elapsed" should not be selected. There are probably pros interested in the results randomly choosing something skewing the results. There are alot of polls like this on the board.

Exactly. I rarely cash and rarely care. Run a good show and I am likely to show up to grace the bottom of your leaderboard. When I first started to play I liked player's packs. Now, I would just as well pay less and win something a couple times per year at best. Actually, if things were structured like that I would be more likely to play in my age indicated division rather than my rating indicated division. I would play with kids of my own age as long as I don't plan on winning anything and if the price is the same.

That is my ideal scenerio. I don't need a bunch of crap I don't want from a players pack. I am not playing to get plastic, I've got enough of that. I'm playing to test myself against the course and others in a similar division. Am divisions should be for the love of the game and competition and all others should move to open.

Recieving a voucher(pick your own) for a Player's Package for the retail value of your entry fee. (No post play pay-out, except trophies)

I like this Idea because it will cut down the reason for people to sandbag. The trophies should be discs that are stamped with your finish place to make recieving a disc at the end special.

Sandbaggers are going sandbag no matter what the payout is. They do it for the glory... you know big fish little pond.

In my opinion, nothing will get them to move to the division that best suits their skills.

I'm going to second, or I guess third that. If the money isn't for payout, why do I have to pay a big entry fee at all? I would definitely rather pay $10 to play, and spend $20 on discs if I want them, then spend $30 to play, and just as a bonus get discs I don't want.

And maybe that wouldn't succeed in promoting people moving up very much, but it definitely would create something this sport needs: true amateurism, where people are playing am for the sake of formal, organized competition, rather than just having what is essentially just a multi-tiered pro system, where everyone's trying to come away with more than they paid in one form or another.

i'll 4th or 5th the low entry fee... everyone gets a playa's pack and trophy only.

also curious if anyone has ever played in an am tourney where there was no players pack at all?

That's cool. This is your motivation to play competetively.

Am divisions should be for the love of the game and competition and all others should move to open.

That's not cool. Players get all the plastic they need (possibly from Am division payouts and players packs) over the years, then come to the realization that Ams should play for "Love of the Game."

Smart TDs have got it figured out: They offer a payout system that attracts players. If you're a TD and want to offer a different payout system, then offer it and see if people will pay to play.
