Is there a minimum amount of tourneys or points needed to be considered for rookie of the year? Your first year in open, you only have time to play one tourney, is that your only shot at rookie of the year. I would think there should be a minimum amount of tourneys or the next year you can give it a another shot. Just wondering.

I would say if you're only going to play Open once in a year it would be smarter to join the PDGA as an Am and accept merch if you happen to cash in that event. The current ROY criteria is either your first full year as a Pro member, or as an Am member, you accept cash in a pro division prior to Am Worlds. If you are an Am and accept merch or don't accept cash in a pro division until after Am Worlds, your rookie year won't be until the following full year.
