Mar 11 2008, 11:52 PM
Joe, we can work that out sometime. Gotta trust that hzyer angle and know your disc. I definitely throw sidearm on 11 just decided not too that day, probably lots of headwind. Looking forward to my first Kings Cup!

Mar 12 2008, 12:54 AM
You can flick #2 if you want. #10 is a fun flickroller if it's not windy(just don't hit the posts on the right!). #11-all day. #13 is a hole you need to flick 2F's. Turn one up and let it coast an S up the fairway...beautiful when done right :) and you're the man at that shot ;) #18 lines up for a roller, but you got to be on point. I love this course and agree there are some nice sidearm holes. 'Bout 7-8 for me...plus a mandatory flickroller! Hope to make this one.

For the last two days, I have learned somre really cool stuff from Russell Schwarz. In addition to looking at the property that will very likely be our next course in Kinston. I learned some stuff about The Barnet Park course. For example.....2 long is actually 2 short the blue pad was never poured. If poured, it would stretch the hole to over 600 feet. However, it may be and soon! Hole 7's pin was intended to be across the creek out near 10's alt pin. It also may be developed to its design soon. Hole 15 long has never been poured but will be soon! A mando at the turn or 4 was requested to keep the hole from being played "through the back door". That will likely happen too. Russell is a great guy to learn from and is super to work with. I am looking forward to a few "changes" at Barnet and the future course that will also be beautiful and challenging.

MTL is just jealous :)
I really would not call it a back door, more like a crack in the wall lol. If you put a mando, just put it about 30-60 feet off the tee. That way it stops the shortcut, but it is close enough that there are no "iffy" calls as to whether or not the mando was made.

scottfaison
Apr 16 2008, 08:54 PM
Questions: If 2 was made longer and 7 was extended, would there also be bridges made to make the walk shorter (mainly on 7 since I do not want to walk all the way to 9's fairway to cross)? Also, would those creeks still be OB forcing the decisions (especially on 7) to either go for it or play short then get across the creek? Just some questions, not complaints. I will play whatever layout a TD or course designer throws at me.

haha

IMHO, mandos are to be used to play a hole the way it was originally designed to be played.

Course designers can't help if a gap opens 20 years after they design a course and then mandos are good.

Also mandos are good for safety to prevent ppl from throwing over other park areas.

However, a mando just to make a hole more difficult is pointless.

Bridges will be inistalled if the provisions are made for 2 and 7. I think we would treat the water just as we do on 9 if you are betweent he strings you are out. Although it will come in to play a both locations, Russell said that He and Harold wanted to have players choose their shot. Placement safe and then cross over to the pin on 7 or try the big anhyzer. You obviously won't reach 2 and you had better play the smart line to put yourself in the alley for an upshot. We are talking a new hole on 2 with the long pad placement. As far a mando on 4, I just can't put it there if it is going to cause people to stuggle to make the call. Again, nothing has been set in stone with these three areas of discussion. We have some details to work out and we are working on them. I just wanted to inform fans of the Kinston course of some of the exciting things taking place. So to continue.....we are placing a hole 19 in front of our tournament shelter. We will have a very nice Kiosk built by the first of May.

Joseph
Apr 16 2008, 10:09 PM
We are installing new chains on all 18, again. Our last batch had a defect and are being replaced. We will also be correcting the height error on 4's pin by placing a new pole. Oh, did I mention we will be have tons of workdays???

However, a mando just to make a hole more difficult is pointless.

I disagree.

Most of the time that is exactly why a mando is put on a hole.

I'm not saying the list you mentioned are not valid reasons, I actually agree with most of those that you listed.

However, I would not say mandos that are put in place to make a hole tougher are pointless??? No way.

MTL21676
Apr 17 2008, 11:23 AM
I'm trying to think of a mando that was in place that wasn't for safety / original course reasons...

let me think....

(long pause)

Number 8 in Jacksonville comes to mind. There is no other shot to the green than the hyzer - that really doesn't help anything.

Number 6 there too is bad, but it is for safety of number 5.

Um....

thats all I got right now.

mwatson10324
Apr 17 2008, 11:31 AM
what about #2 a the Payne? No safety issues there. Dont say its because of hole threes tee pad, the hole is toooooo short to call that. Most are throwing putters (even the lefty)

2 is to make people play the hole correct.

7 at wellspring is dumb!! There is no other way to get to the pin. Honestly, if someone wants to throw a miracle shot through the woods, be my guest.

Thanks Myers, I think the course will be a little tougher this year with two, six, and fifteen......we hope to have all of them ready. If so, it will be a little different for sure. Keep those registrations coming!

I'll be camping...At Neuseway Nature Park (http://www.neusewaypark.com/campground.html)

I may be up there tomorrow afternoon for a practice session...
And this may be on here somewhere, but what are the changes to the course?

"Got space at my house Doc if you dont mind the 50 minute commute"

Thanks Schwebby, that may be an option. The Neuseway Nature Park is VERY close to the course and would be a GREAT camp location. So if enough folks do the tent thing, thats my first choice. Thanks for that info Rore, and Joe, the 100 man shelter there would make a great location for the players partee.
Just a thot.

We're getting close to having 90 registered players. As soon as we reach 90, the web site will change from registration to wait-list sign up. So don't miss out, register today. Mt. Noble awaits!

to bump this thing up, a question. for the new tee on hole 2 you have to throw over 2 ditches and and island that is created by the 2 ditches. so if you come up short or hit an early tree, what do you do? i am assuming the dtches are o.b. but if you manage to somehow land on the island is there now a bridge to that piece of land? i know there was talk of installing one. i have seen the proposed hole but have not been back since the clearing has comenced. can't wait to play the new monster! thanks for any input.

Joseph
May 15 2008, 04:29 PM
The two ditches that form the island areas are lined with string as is 9. These are the only ditches that require a player to throw their shot across them. Two fourteen foot bridges connect the fairway to allow access to the island. The two ditches will allow players that "may" land in OB to move progressively through, playing per rule..the last place in bounds. If there is doubt about clearing both ditches, players may chose to lay up on the island as it is mowed down and open the width of the new gate. Good question!

I stopped in Kinston today on the way to Raleigh from Wilmington and played the course for the first time. The course is in great shape. The Fairways are nice and clean, but man it is punishing when you get off the fairway. Hole 2 is a tough 3 with the pad that far back. I'd be happy with a 4 every round. Mt. Noble on hole 6 is looking good too. I was eye level with the bottom of the pole. My only gripe with the course is the crazy amount of ants. Everything else was looking great though. Nice work Joe and everyone else that has helped out. Can't wait to play this weekend.

Thanks Toomes! Yeah the course has some carpenter ants and they have really grown in number. They have always been on 15 but there are more than ever. Parks is looking for a solution as they don't get treated with the same insecticide as do fire ants. They really don't sting or bite, especially when compared to fire ants. Sorry that they couldn't be addressed before this weekend.

Number 1 at Cedar Hills = the best thumber hole ever.

I've even seen McRee throw thumbers on that hole.

i hear ya... took too many meds to get thru the clash... taking some time off and hope to be playing again by the points bonanza. I've played that course once on my way traveling thru and remember a lot of fun thumber holes... including 'IJAT' ;)

#1 @ cedar hills best?!... nah... #16 @ renny! ;) (note:... over the top!)

Keep tearing it up Schweb and if things go well I should be playing w/ you @ the Raleigh Championships!
