Has anyone hear any details or reviews about this bird?

I am the co-td for the Green Country Doubles here in Tulsa and we will be receiving a small amount of these, but I was just wondering if anyone has seen/thrown them so that I can start telling people what they fly like...

And since I never threw the san-marino of old, I cannot compare them for myself...

Anyone?

Anything?

Here is what Innova sent today...

It's baaaaa-ackkkk... The San Marino Roc has been brought back to life! The San Marino is less overstable than the Rancho mold with less low speed fademaking it a straighter flierbut more overstable than the Ontario mold. For those collectors out there: Don't worry, the new mold is clearly distinguishable from the San Marino of the late 80's-early 90's.

These discs are offered exclusively to tournaments to help promote the great game of disc golf.

Good pitch to players: "The San Marino Roc is a little more stable than the Ontario mold. It has terrific glide down range, not tailing off as hard as the Rancho mold."

I just want to get a hold of some. A beat up Sannie is the best turnover disc. Unfortunately, they can break. rWc3523

Good to see but they're not the same as the original San Marinos though.

True, but neither are the new Ontario's. It's nice to have them back though that's for sure. Great effort to get two great discs back on the market.

Well when you talk to people that throw San Marinos they laugh at this.

Everyone said how is possible the mold is gone that location is nolonger etc....

I heard they were going to be only Champion San Marino Rocs but now DX again?

That just cheapins it.

Well they arrived today for me as well...

Super sweet feeling plastic...

More like a blend between DX and Pro...

I threw one in my backyard(2 & 1/2 acres) and it seems to be very stable to slightly overstable, and holds its line extremely well...

It also holds an anhyzer really well right out of the box...a nice slow turn...

Based on today alone, it is worth a month or two getting to know the re-release of this legendary disc.

There are going to be champion and star (not entirely sure about star) for USDGC according to the Ask Dave D thread...

...which you would read if you were a good little disc junkie.... :D

i would think that the price would go up becuase there will be more people throwing the old ones so there will less of the old ones in the next few years so then they will be worth even more

Are the new Sannies domey or flat?

Birdie
Mar 06 2008, 08:08 PM
I wouldn't call them domey..but they are not perfectly flat either...

They hold a beautiful line......beautiful.

pathamill
Mar 06 2008, 08:56 PM
What do they look like?
A buzzz/coyote/crow?

Birdie
Mar 06 2008, 09:38 PM
I have a champ coyote...the coyote is much rounder on the "nose", and where the coyote has almost a convex rim...the roc looks more like a rancho.

The only Buzz I have is a beat up Holiday Buzz...The nose of the Buzz is much blunter (flater) then the roc. And the roc has a distinct bead...where my buzz doesn't.

And the Cro is just about as blunt as the coyote...

In short I think those three discs are nothing like the sanny in looks...

Obviously though, I am not very knowledgeable about the different parts of the disc so I can't give a very good description... :(

So it looks like and flys like one of the less stable kc rocs or a first run buzzz?

Now we're comparing Rocs to the Buzz? What I'm interested in is the diameter. The old Sannys were made of a dx plastic that shrank big-time as it cooled. As a result, old Sannys almost seem small diameter like an MRV. At least this is what I assume because I'm pretty sure Dave D. has said that the molds were the same diameter in all Rocs except the original (classic Roc). New dx plastic does not shrink like this, so I'll bet they fly way different than the originals.

Just wait till you throw it...if the original didn't fly like these do, then they were missing out! :p

Any updates on how the DX is holding up?
And anyone throwing the Star Ontario? How does the flight compare on those to the San Marino?
Cheers,
Matt
P.S. I am looking for a replacement for my 10X KC Roc...I am down to my last one...

Karma Police

I would say the new San Marino is nothing like the 10x Roc, especially when brand new. The San Marino has much less fade. I don't really think the Star Ontario flies much like the 10x either. I would suggest just going back to 8x Rocs and throw those. :)

Yeah, you are right. For some reason I thought PP made a deck with a skeleton hawk and then Birdhouse kinda spun off that. My days of skateboarding in J-ville, FL were quite a long time ago.

jmc2442
Apr 17 2008, 02:43 PM
no, you are kinda right too.. Powell did make all kinds of skull decks and iron cross stuff.... Birdhouse took the bird skull thing to a whole level though. For a while its all they put on decks and shirts.

I'm pretty sure the ones we got at the St Louis open from Innova do have some of the copolyester in them.
They are definitely not any DX I have ever seen, the one I have will not even flex.
