Hello,
I was wondering if any of you could offer your opinions on my bag setup and any of my questions?

My current setup:

Wizard - Soft: Putting; Medium: Short Range Driver
Roc - DX & KC Ranchos: All mid-range duty
Teebird - DX, KC 9x, and Star: Control Driver
Firebird - Champion & Star: Overstable Driver, Thumbers, Forearm
Destroyer - Pro: Distance

With my Wizards, I have no problem nailing putts in the circle. My problem is outside the circle. Do I need to putt more with hyzer (When I jump putt, I loft it in the air about the height of the Headrick ring and let it float in), or is the Wizard just not a good disc for this? Will it work better with age?

Would a Predator or Spirit fit better in the setup than the Firebird? What I'm looking for in that slot is a disc that is very reliable in the wind, can go at least 350ft for me (I can throw about 380 with a Teebird and 400 with a Destroyer), and will work well as a Thumber disc and Forearm disc.

What has more utility, a Destroyer or an Illusion? I just recently tried a beat Evolution Illusion and I really like it, but I don't know how well they do in a wind. I like that the Pro Destroyer is as overstable as it is, is the Illusion similar in the Evolution or the S plastic? Are the runs of Illusions consistent? Inconsistent runs are a turn-off for me for any mold.

Lastly, are there any shots that anyone thinks are missing in my bag?

Got a little long... Thanks for any answers!

If you gave me your bag and told me I could pick 2 or 3 discs to add to it, I'd add:

1. A wickedly overstable midrange. Various Rocs can fill overstable to a beat DX Roc for a flippy midrange, but you can't snap a roc on a hard anny and expect it fade out of it. I currently have the older Champion Gator, but used to carry a Proto Demon. Drone could work too...

2. A neutral putter. Not necessarily for most putting, but when you're 60 feet out and in the schule and you want something you can throw with touch on a gentle line to float in and get you close. Think Aviar P&A, Magnet, maybe the new Magic...

3. Something to roll...

Now that's what I'd want to add if someone handed me your bag and told me to play with it. Your mileage may vary... and my advice is probably worth what you paid for it... :-)

May I suggest an Element or Element X Those compliment the Roc quite well. The majority of Gateway drivers have that tendency to be overstable. The monster and max should never flip on you in the wind either. Oh a couple diablo's or inferno's as well! Then you'll be set. Keep working with those Wizards too. Try and find a stiff one as well as one of those supersoft!

I guess you didn't play in Tulsa Oklahoma yesterday then....

With wind like we have here you have to have real stability as well as the insight of how to play the wind, or else you are toast....as I was...

As far as outside the circle, I use a Kc Pro Aviar (10 &12x), as well as the star aviar driver.

I found that in the wind it is a fine putter and it is also a very nice approach disc.

As for your other disc, the wind resistant, thumber, side arm disc...I think the champion firebird would be a great start.

my bag is very similar. you have a super simple and solid set-up. maybe add a roller [roadrunner] and make sure you always have a 180 new roc for overstable mid needs. I would also swap that firebird for a z-pred. same rim width, and more "teebird-like" in its overstability, ie a more consistant fade that is not super hard at the end. it is longer than the firebird. i like the domier ones.

I cant say what discs would be best for you as its up to you, but what works for me is having an overstable distance driver, a stable distance driver, and an understable driver. Then an overstable and stable fairway driver, then a stable and understable midrange, and putters beat in different levels. This allows me a wide variety of shots.

A couple cans of Pabst i'd add too!
seriously though i fell back in love with the champ orc( was going wraith, destroyer too much!) for straight fast shots either for semi-wide wooded holes or long downhill ones.

funny you should mention illusions in regards to wind. illusions are probably the best wind discs i've thrown. they dont flutter at all. since you threw a beat up one, my guess is that you don't realize how overstable they are to start with. the illusion could probably fill your overstable spot as well as anything and they beat up to become long drivers. i like spirits myself, but i keep illusions in the bag just for windy days. there's some inconsistancy in the runs, but mostly that's on purpose. they were trying to retool it a bit. except for the baby blues, they're all overstable enough that you shouldn't notice a difference anyway.

i use a new or nearly new wizard for jump putts. they will hold a line pretty well when new. i use more beat up wizards for short putts.

for utility, a spirit is your best bet. some prefer the firebird. they're both great for thumbers and the spirit makes a good forehand disc too.

As Steven said, I think the Predator is a better compliment to the Teebird. It has more glide and is faster than the Firebird, while still being absolutely and consistantly overstable. Consistency with touch...The older, clear, pro Firebirds are the only ones that fly a little like a Predator, and they are hard to find and expensive. Get a Z Predator with a decent dome.

Besides that I would urge you to give any kind of Buzz a shot. It is essentially a Roc-L, and it flies straighter, faster, and has more glide. It is better in the wind as well because it is more aerodynamic. Players with a lot of experience with the Roc will disagree, but I think that you should give the Buzz a shot before you get trapped in the Roc-box (many players would do better with a buzz, but are caught up in the romance of the Roc).
