I have a question that I'm sure someone here can help me with:

I am 960 rated "tweener" golfer. I played am/pro about half and half last year and I have yet to cash. This year I renewed as a pro this year anticipating playing more pro events than AM. I am pretty sure I can still play AM because I have not cashed and am rated 960. I am invited to AM worlds (not invited to pro) and am currently undecided about going for AM worlds or trying to squeak into Pro worlds. Can I still play AM even though I renewed as a pro?

Sorry. You signed up as a pro. You are ineligible for Am Worlds.

Maybe you could get your am status back if you called the office and talked to Gentry about it.

You may play as an Advanced player if your rating stays below 970, see the competitive manual for the quidelines. You may not play 'down' at any NT events though.

Thanks for the replies. I just got off the phone with IDGC and indeed I cannot play AM Worlds along with a few other top tourneys (nationals, AM USDGC, etc), but I may play other AM events as long as my rating is below 970.

$25 mistake....

I spoke with a local player who has never cashed in Open, yet he was planning to renew his '08 membership as a professional because he wants to play with the pros this year. I reminded him that the "Open" division is open to amateurs and professionals alike. Thus, he is renewing as an amateur, saving $25 on his membership fee and has the option of playing both am and pro events. :)
